Programming Suggestion: 7-Day Retro Nickelodeon Marathon Week!

7-Day Retro Nickelodeon Marathon Week!

Dear Nickelodeon Team, I hope this message finds you well. I am a long-time fan of Nickelodeon, and I wanted to share a programming concept that I believe the global fan community would absolutely love. My idea is a 7-Day Retro Marathon Week (e.g., "Nickelodeon: The Time Capsule Week"). The core concept is to completely transform the channel for one full week to look and feel exactly like the classic Nickelodeon from the 90s and 2000s.

  • Here is what would make it special:
  • Classic Shows: Airing full blocks of legendary cartoons and live-action shows (e.g., Rugrats, Hey Arnold!, SpongeBob (Seasons 1-3), Avatar: The Last Airbender, Drake & Josh, Kenan & Kel).
  • Retro Aesthetic: Using the old logos, original bumpers, and the famous "Splplat" branding between shows.
  • Vintage Commercials: To make the time-travel experience complete, airing the original, nostalgic toy and snack commercials from that era.

Nostalgia marketing is incredibly powerful right now, and this event would not only bring back millions of millennials and Gen Z viewers who grew up with the channel, but also introduce these masterpieces to a newer generation. It would be a massive hit on social media. Thank you for your time and for continuing to bring joy to kids (and kids at heart) everywhere. I would love to hear your thoughts on this! Best regards !

Hard Time on Planet Earth

I'm trying to determine what the highest-quality surviving source is for Hard Time on Planet Earth (1989), and I'm hoping someone may have information about versions that aren't widely circulating.

I've currently located two different sources, both of which appear to originate from VHS recordings or older TV captures (The TV show was never offically released on VHS or DVD).

Version A – English Audio

  • MP4 container
  • H.264 video
  • 466×262 resolution
  • 29.97 fps
  • ~205 kbps video bitrate
  • Stereo audio (Opus)
  • Runtime varies by episode
  • Appears to be a heavily compressed VHS-derived source

This version has the original English audio, but the video quality is fairly poor. The image is soft, compression artifacts are visible, and it appears to have been re-encoded aggressively at some point.

Version B – Russian Dub

  • MP4 container
  • H.264 video
  • 352×264 resolution
  • Mono audio
  • Runtime approximately 46 minutes
  • Russian dubbed audio
  • Also appears to be VHS or TV-capture sourced

Interestingly, despite the lower resolution, the russian version is noticeably sharper and cleaner when viewed side-by-side with the English copy. Faces, edges, and scene details are more defined, and there appears to be less compression damage overall.

Because of this, I suspect the English version may have gone through multiple generations of re-encoding, while the Russian version may be closer to an original capture despite its lower pixel dimensions.

What I'm Looking For

I'm interested in hearing from anyone who may have better quality rips (Original off-air VHS recording orAny source with original English audio and cleaner video)

I'm happy to compare screenshots, runtimes, MediaInfo reports, checksums, or sample clips if that helps identify whether we're looking at the same source.

Since the series never received a modern remaster and seems to survive primarily through fan-recorded broadcasts, I'm hoping to identify the best surviving material and possibly create a preservation-quality version using the strongest available source.

Any leads would be greatly appreciated.

Taxicab Confessions - Las Vegas: The 35 Year-Old-Virgin (1999)

Wonder if this girl in the back of the cab ever eventually hooked up with anyone. If she was 35 in 1999 when this episode first came out she'd be about 61 now.

VHS Broadcast Archive from the 90's and early 2000's

A little while ago, I digitized and uploaded my VHS tape. It's from the 90's and early 2000's with shows like The Anti-Gravity Room, Game Spot TV, News, Commercials, and YTV Canada. Mostly stuff about video games and comic books. Back in the day, I used to hate commercials but now I value them more then some of the shows lol.

I digitized it using a USB Dazzle capture card with a S-Video cable coming from a RCA VCR/DVD combo player I got off of FaceBook market place. The original VCR I recorded all these shows with when I was a kid, was a JVC VCR from 1985.

Time has not been kind to the video quality and you have to turn up the sound but that adds a little charm to it. I'm so glad i was able to save this before it fades away. It was a nice little surprise after living my life and forgetting all about it. It was like reaching back in time and saving a little chuck of my childhood. Anyway, enjoy the next 6 hours, just sit back and relax.

I cleaned an old VHS from my childhood and found a full Adult Swim broadcast from 2002 or 2003!

I was looking through some old family VHS tapes and found one that I was very curious about. I purchased a VHS is Life device earlier in the year to clean up any mold that had been forming through the decades on these tapes. Today was the turn of the mystery tape. Once I finished cleaning it and put the tape in my VCR it shocked me to find a full Adult Swim lineup with commercials from 2002 or 2003.

The lineup is He-Man, Inu-Yasha, Yu-Yu Hakusho, Cowboy Bebop (Episode 7), Gundam 0080, G Mobile Suit Gundam, and Outlaw Star. It is in that specific order. I'm trying to find out what specific date this aired if possible. If more information is needed I can go through the tape and write down what each specific episode is.

Also, I'm curious if anyone would be interested in watching this. I don't have an analog to digital converter but have been considering getting one for a while. Now that I have found this I would love to preserve it if there is an actual interest from the community.

TRDB - The New Home of Retro Movies / TV Shows / Live Channels & Chat

https://reddit.com/link/1ttxr9i/video/3irxan6h4p4h1/player

I have been working on The Retro Database, a platform for people who love old TV shows, movies, games, cartoons, forgotten media, and retro nostalgia in general.

The idea is to create one place where people can browse retro titles, discover content by decade, find watch links where available, and help build out the database with trivia, quotes, videos, facts, and useful links.

One of the bigger features is the live TV section. The site currently has 7 live channels broadcasting 24/7, each with its own live chat, so people can watch retro content together instead of just browsing alone.

There is also a community side to it. Members can post to an activity feed, follow contributions from other users, add friends, customize their profile, choose an avatar, and build up accepted contribution stats over time.

Some of the main features include:

  • Retro TV, movie, and game browsing
  • 7 live channels broadcasting 24/7
  • Live chat for each channel
  • Decade hubs for discovering titles by era
  • Community activity feed
  • User-submitted trivia, facts, quotes, links, and videos
  • Public member profiles
  • Friends system

It is still growing, but the goal is to make it a useful community-driven archive and hangout space for retro entertainment fans, collectors, researchers, and anyone who enjoys rediscovering older media.

Site: https://theretrodb.com

Would appreciate any feedback, suggestions, or ideas from other retro media fans.

I am working hard on this project and have developed tools to help with importing media content on mass where possible. I have created a

  • Chrome extension for faster content importing
  • Imports for TMDB, TheGamesDB, YouTube, and Archive.org and others...

Nostalgia TV! Simulated CRT with VHS reels, static knob, and daily episodes that auto‑advance.

I built a 90s TV simulator that actually plays the shows — no scrolling, no decisions, just daily nostalgia

Most retro sites are databases. They tell you where to watch old shows. But they don't actually play them.

So I built THE TUBE — a fully interactive CRT TV simulator that streams real classic shows from the Internet Archive.

🔴 What makes it different:

• You turn the TV on — power button, static, tuning sounds, the whole ritual
• The channel decides what you watch — daily episode rotation, just like appointment TV
• VHS deck with spinning reels — resume badge, tape counter, the works
• Live Mode — auto‑tunes to the current scheduled show like a real television
• No decision fatigue — just lean back and watch what's on

📡 It's not a guide. It's a time machine.
