Seller getting cold feet after purchase?

I bought a sort-of pricey guitar last week, seller accepted my offer for 20% off. It'd been on the site for a couple months with a few other rejected offers. Free shipping, which helped me pull the trigger. Paid and waited for my tracking number.

After a couple days of radio silence the seller gets back to me and says shipping services want "hundreds of dollars" to send the guitar and he's going to have to look into other options to get it to me-- and offered a refund if I didn't want to wait.

Both myself and the seller are in the continental US and it's a pretty standard sized electric guitar so it should be nothing out of the ordinary.

Does this sound weird? I know prices have gone up across the board on stuff, fuel costs, etc. but it sounds excessive. The seller has good feedback from sales so I think he should know approximately what it will cost to send a guitar out. I'm starting to think he's regretting the sale for whatever reason and just hoping I cancel. Anyone deal something like this before?

UPDATE: I got a refund.

Out of Control Shipping?

I am sorry, but there is no way shipping costs $800 from Switzerland - how is this even allowed?

Trusted shipping forwarder from USA to Portugal?

A potential buyer in Portugal wants to buy my guitar, but I only ship in the US. Other buyers have gone through shipping forwarder, where I shipped to a buyer at the forwarder's US address, and they would sent it to the buyer.

Do you know a trusted forwarder that my buyer could contact? Obrigado!

Received a Guitar that wasn’t the right serial model in the listing. What to do from here?

So basically I had bought a Taylor Acoustic from this listing.

https://reverb.com/item/96192810-taylor-custom-shop-grand-auditorium-spruce-top-quilt-aaa-maple-back-sides-with-hardcase-transparent-blue-092?show_sold=true

It says in the description and I quote "These are actual photos of the guitar you will receive - not stock photos." since the Wood Figuring on these guitars with Maple Figuring all seem to be unique for each guitar and that was why I picked out this particular listing.

However, when I received the guitar, I noticed something was off when I saw the figuring and then I looked at the serial number and it wasn't the same one as the listing above. It was 093 instead of 092. So then I did some digging and it looks like I was instead shipped the guitar from this listing.

https://reverb.com/item/96170061-taylor-custom-shop-grand-auditorium-black-label-spruce-top-quilt-aaa-maple-back-sides-with-hardcase-transparent-blue-093?show_sold=true

So now I'm wondering where do I go from here? I'm assuming that the guitar I was supposed to be shipped was switched around with the other. Would I be able to request a Partial Refund from the seller?

Scam alert: Bee's Shop & Heather's Gear Bazar - Lowball Anchoring

How many of you have encountered a situation like this?

  1. You've just listed a new item.
  2. You quickly receive two lowball offers from two different accounts.
  3. These accounts follow a similar naming convention: "Bee ." "Heather ." "Haylee S ." Note the punctuation.
  4. These accounts claim to be from different locations (MA and NY, respectively, cited in the above example, but recently includes TX) but their zip codes map to the same address.
  5. Every time you list a new, high-value, in-demand item, the pattern persists.

This happens to me nearly every time I post a new item.

Screenshots of a convo with customer support attached - with Reverb acknowledging that people who own more than one account can use these accounts to make offers on a single item. This is lowball anchoring and is supposedly not allowed on the platform.

I've asked for this to be escalated for further review because it seems sketchy.

Filming Pack Up?

Are other sellers regularly filming video of themselves packing up gear? Is this something I should've been doing and didn't know it? I had been taking photos as I packed things up, but not video, and when I needed to use the Safe Shipping policy I'd purchased, the AI help assistant said I needed video documentation.

Some context: I recently shipped a guitar to a customer, and the customer sent me photos saying the package had been damaged during shipping. I thought it was no problem because I'd bought Safe Shipping, but I couldn't place the claim because the robot wanted video of the pack up. I feel foolish for several reasons. 1st, I apparently didn't read the terms clearly and needed video. 2nd, I shouldn't have accepted this buyer's offer in the first place because they were waving a BUNCH of red flags about being a potential problem that I ignored. Now the buyer is claiming the guitar was damaged, when I can clearly tell in the photos that it was not damaged at all, even though the box looks like it took a hit. It was an As-Is, no returns purchase on an old, clearly described entry-level Squier that they waited to gripe about. They made a number of other (IMO BS) claims about the guitar that WOULD mean it was not "As-Is" if they were true, and I feel Reverb is likely to give them preference as a buyer, so I didn't want the hassle of fighting about it. Also, I don't want the bad review, so I bent over backwards to keep this customer happy, but they will probably give me a bad rating regardless. I am kicking myself for not taking this video when I feel like I shouldn't have to pay anything or accept a return. I feel like a jackass because I am doing all this for a $200 guitar.

I have learned two things from this episode: I guess I am going to have to buy a filming setup to record myself packing items, and I will not be accepting anymore offers from people asking a million questions that clearly indicate they think a 10-year-old Squier should come out of the box playing like a Custom Shop.

How would you type the dimensions of a mailing sleeve?

Trying to sell a Truetone 1-spot adapter I don’t need anymore, and I got it to fit into a mailer bag.

How would I put in the dimensions (other than length and width)? It won’t let me list the item until the entire thing is filled out.

I built a music gear price history tool, sharing it

I'm a musician and have always been a music gear nerd. When I got into reselling I got tired of looking on Reverb all the time for price history, as a lot of times it gives estimates without relying on actual recent sales. I am a web developer and decided to build my own tool and I made it free for everyone since it uses Reverb public data.

Nervous about buyers refund request

Hello all. I sold a guitar near and dear to me to afford another purchase the other day. I noted in the description it was a little beat up and supplied numerous pictures of the dings and dents. It still played great and I tested it multiple times before packing it up extremely well and sending it through UPS. I have my receipt with the weight and dimensions. I also have "as described" as my shop policy.

I'm not a full time seller on reverb, but maybe I should've seen this coming: the account has zero reviews and didn't make an offer- they purchased it outright.

I had some communication with them before it arrived today and all seemed good, they seemed excited for their new guitar.

Later today, I received a refund request with zero explanation. I messaged the buyer asking what was wrong and so far have gotten nothing.

I have read reverb can be really shitty and side with scammers so I'm a little afraid here. Should I just deny the refund request and go from there?

Received faulty amp

Hi all! I am hoping to get some guidance on an issue for a recent purchase.

I bought a used Fender Princeton and I just received and plugged in the amp. Upon first inspection the volume, reverb, speed, and intensity pots are stripped of faulty in some way - they just spin without stopping and the 1-10 indicators do not line up with how the amp is functioning.

I have videos of the amp unboxing and me operating it, including the pot issues. I reached out to the seller almost immediately letting them know about the issue.

Is there anything else I should do? Should I initiate a refund request since the amp is clearly faulty (it was listed as Excellent on Reverb)?

Thank you for your assistance everyone!

My Reverb account was suspended after a successful sale and my payout is being withheld

I'm hoping someone here has been through something similar.

I completed a sale on Reverb, and the buyer chose Local Pickup. We met in person, the buyer received the item, and confirmed receipt on Reverb. Shortly after that, my account was suspended without any explanation

Now I can't list new items, buy anything on Reverb, or even access pages because I'm redirected to the suspended account page

The biggest issue is that my payout is being withheld even though the buyer has already confirmed they received the item.

To make matters even worse, Reverb refunded the buyer without my knowledge or authorization
The buyer has both the item and the refund, and now they are no longer responding to my messages

I've contacted support, but haven't received a meaningful response yet

Has anyone experienced this? How long did it take to get your account reviewed? Did you eventually receive your payout? Is there any other way to contact Reverb besides the standard support form?

At this point I'm extremely frustrated. The buyer confirmed receiving the item, the transaction was completed, and now I'm left without my payout while the buyer appears to have both the item and the money

Any advice or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated

Also, if Reverb continues to ignore me and withhold my funds, which organizations or authorities can I file a complaint with?

How long can you hold a local pickup order?

I had someone reach out about something I’m selling that I have set to local pickup. They asked if I could hold it around 3 months until they are in the area. Honestly, I don’t mind doing that for them, and they even offered to pay now for the product.

That being said, I don’t want it to reflect negatively on my account or get auto refunded if it is not marked as received in a timely fashion.

Has anyone else had this situation come up or advise against it?

Reverb gear you (or me) can't afford this week lol

I found some of the most insane gear we can't afford this week on Reverb, typical insanity prices. If anyone actually wants to buy any of them for real I will link the article in the comments.

Aristona EW5504 Stereo Reel-to-Reel Recorder (~$3.2 million)

1959 Gibson Les Paul – Lenny Kravitz (~$595,000)

Moog Modular IIIC – Ex-Ennio Morricone (~$475,000)

1962 Gibson Country Western – The Museum Piece Formerly Toured by Jimmy Page, Cat Stevens & Dusty Springfield (~$298,000)

Klon Centaur Professional Overdrive (Short Tail, ~$92,000)

Does anyone really understand the whole Klon thing?

Guys. I'm finally leaving Reverb. And you should to.

I've been a reverb seller and buyer for 12 years with 500 plus feedback. Over the years Reverb has been screwing over sellers right and left. I kept telling myself I needed Reverb more than they needed me. But now, with other alternatives like Sweetwaters Gear Exchange and Ebay, and Facebook Marketplace, I no longer feel like I need Reverb anymore. Especially with their latest crusade. What is their most recent shit they're pulling you may ask? You just need to look at the past weeks posts and comments to know what I'm talking about.

Their most recent crusade has been billing increased shipping charges 2 months after the item shipped due to UPS "audited dimensions and weight." In the past, I've been able to get Reverb to reverse the billed charges. Since then, I've recorded and taken pictures of me measuring the boxes, and weighing the package, thinking this will save my ass for next time. Well? Next time came, and Reverb did not care the proof I provided in pictures contradicted the UPS audited dimensions by over 1.5 inches. They simply said they cannot control when UPS changes dimensional weight charges after the fact.

This is the end of me doing business with Reverb. I will no longer be buying or selling on their platform. Ive always sold cross platform and never had any BS billed charges after shipping on those other platforms.

I know sales will be slower on Sweetwaters Gear Exchange, Ebay, and Facebook Marketplace. But I'm tired of having my money stolen by Reverb in the face of hard proof. I'm fortunately in a spot where I can afford to sit on my items and don't need immediate sales.

I know there willl be die hard Reverb users who will downvote this, but that's fine. I used to be a diehard Reverb user too who did the same thing. Now I can finally see what they've become. I'll still lurk in this Reverb reddit group. I appreciate how helpful this community was to me. See ya.

Edit: Since everyone is saying it's a UPS problem, and not Reverb. This is my response:

They are BOTH the problem. UPS falsely inflating dimensions, and Reverb ignoring it's customers complaints on these false dimensions. How does UPS know it's auto detection systems are reading wrong dimensions when Reverb doesn't give feedback to UPS from Reverb users? For all UPS knows, their systems are working fine since Reverb doesn't forward proof their systems are reading dimensions wrong.

Reverb should credit the seller back on the charge and forward the picture proof to UPS and dispute it with UPS on the sellers behalf. This is what a good company would do for it's users. Reverb just saying too bad is not good service to its members.

Is Reverb the only option?

Been reading a few posts about seller fees/shipping fees and it’s got me a little…uneasy.

Are there any other sites besides Reverb to trade/sell a guitar? Not trying to loose my butt with fees.
