Account under review (again)

I had an account that got disabled not long ago for no reason after buying a couple of guitars. I had that account since 2017 and bought several items through it over the years.

I tried to appeal, but I never received the email to do so. After days of trying to reach a real person through support chat, the guy just told me to create another account.

I did that yesterday and bought a couple more guitars (because I can and I like them!), but this morning I got an email saying they were refunding both purchases and that the account is now under review.

Any idea why this is happening? My only guess is that I’ve been buying more stuff lately, but even then, I had two-step verification enabled, and it still flagged both occasions as suspicious activity.

It’s so frustrating getting banned for no reason. I never even messaged any vendors, I usually just hit “Buy.”

Any alternatives to this site?

Is someone at Reverb downvoting posts?

I’ve noticed that a lot of posts and comments in this community get downvoted, especially if they skew negative. It seems a bit odd m. I know Reverb does monitor this channel. Fact or Conspiracy?

Return request not as described

I sold a guitar to somebody and now they’re requesting that they can return it because it apparently has a twisted neck.
They claimed the guitar was not as described-it’s a fender strat with a Floyd and it played fine when I sold it .

If I deny the return, Reverb seems to be not too clear about what happens. They review the case, then what?
If I accept the return and then provide a refund, but I offer say $150 less because of shipping, is that OK?

It just seems buyers are way more difficult than they were 20 or even 10 years ago.
Of course, this is a brand new account for the buyer with very little history… And of course they asked about 10 questions before they made the final purchase. I should’ve known I was dealing with somebody somewhat difficult.

New Scam

Didn’t check the address before shipping, but watch out for this. Still not sure if i’ll be good or not, but since i selected Signature Required i’m under the belief i’ll be paid out.

What percentage of things get returned?

I was a little curious today so I asked ai about some percentages on the Reverb site. It said the percentage of items that are returned is not published but if it is similar to other sites it would be in the range of 5-15 percent.

It also said that roughly 2/3 of listings by small private sellers or dealers are as described-no returns.

I wonder what percentage of items are returned if the seller says the item is "not as described" or damaged in shipping? In this case the seller has to pay for shipping both ways. This can be cost prohibitive where the seller loses money on the deal. For a small business looking to make a profit this will put you out of business.

Shipping on weekends

I have been selling on Reverb for several years and have always dealt with an issue with an order that I receive late Friday evenings through Saturdays and according to Reverb in order to qualify for the Quick Shipper Badge you need to ship within 24 hours INCLUDING Weekends.
I recently had two orders that came in on a Friday evening and had to come in on the Saturday to ship the item so that it was shipped within 24 hours without jeportizing my status. We do offer Free 2-Day shipping on some of our items and just so happened to be both those orders were 2-Day shipping and had to bring them to the local Fedex express office to ship. Thankfully they were open on a Saturday. Sundays would be an issue becuase no one is open. I was told by Reverb with orders of 2-Day shipping they have to be shipped even if its on a weekend because weekends count for 2-Day shipments.
I sell on Amazon (not Prime), Ebay and Walmart and their requirments are the next Buisness day and don't include weekends.
So my question is how are any other sellers handling this? I seriously doublt most sellers do not ship on weekends.

Reverb's Price Suggestions

Has anyone else noticed that Reverb’s price suggestions seem wildly disconnected from actual market value lately?

I understand they’re probably AI/algorithm driven based on previous sales, but the system seems to completely ignore major value factors like:

  • Condition differences
  • Included hard cases
  • Professional setups/service
  • Vintage vs reissue distinctions
  • Country of manufacture
  • Upgraded pickups/electronics
  • Rarity/limited production runs

For example, a guitar in “Good” condition with no case gets lumped into the same pricing logic as a professionally serviced Excellent-condition example with an OEM hard case included.

As a shop, it creates a weird situation where accurately priced instruments sometimes appear “overpriced” simply because the algorithm seems to average everything together.

I actually like the idea of pricing guidance, but Reverb really needs a more nuanced system — maybe weighting condition, included accessories, and seller notes more heavily, or at least separating “with case” vs “no case” comps.

Curious if other sellers are seeing the same thing.

Japanese seller claims they need my FedEx account number to ship

Is this a scam? I submitted an offer and the seller has a $70 shipping charge as part of the deal. When they responded to my offer they said that FedEx now requires shippers in Japan to provide the FedEx account number of the recipient if the recipient is located in the United States.

I can't find any indication that this is the case online and it seems sus (I'll end up getting charge for shipping twice, once by Reverb and then again by FedEx). But the seller has pretty good feedback on Reverb.

Has anyone encountered this before? Thanks in advance.

Is anyone else having issues uploading pics or screenshots to Reverb messenger via the app (Samsung phone)?

I have been having this issue for almost a month. Tried all of the usual fixes including other phones and an old iphone with the same error - not able to load images. Also.had friends using their accounts on their phones with the same issue. Contacted Reverb and they claim that they have had no other reports about this. Creating and editing listings I have no problem but no joy within Reverb messenger. Cheers

Does UPS offer a guitar shipping box?

I plan on selling a guitar with it's hard shell case so dimensions would be about around 43" x 4" x 15"

Anyone know what dimensions and how much it would be to buy the box from UPS?

Sold a guitar with free shipping - question about Reverb label

I'm new to selling on Reverb. Not a business, just downsizing my gear. Already sold a bunch of stomp boxes with buyer paid shipping, so I just used Reverb labels. I listed a guitar with free shipping to generate interest. Now it's sold and I need to decide on how to save cost on shipping label. I've got proper packaging and will pack it using Reverb's guidance.

I figured that if I buy the label myself, UPS is cheaper than FedEx or USPS. But would I be better off buying the label from Reverb? The only way I could figure what it might coast was to clone the listing as if I was selling another one. I put in the package size and weight and it came back with a range of $48.51 - $71.32 (I guess depending on zip codes). When I used the UPS site to calculate cost, it was $132 with $1000 insurance.

Is that $48.51 - $71.32 range legit? And they don't say what the Safe Shipping insurance would be other than "small fee". I saw on UPS site that the cost of insurance over the base $100 was only $16, so I guess Reverb won't scalp for their insurance?

Edit: After receiving helpful comments (all of them), I decided to go ahead and buy a UPS label through Reverb. I did consider Pirateship, creating an account and pricing a label for this guitar sale. It was about half the cost of buying directly from UPS. But after learning that labels bought on Reverb could be cancelled and refunded as long as not scanned by carriers, I checked the price. Buying the label on Reverb was only slightly more than Pirateship. I decided to spend a little more and get the Reverb label. This way if there was any damage or loss in shipping, I would be dealing with Reverb insurance and not Pirateship. I figure that Reverb might have more concerns for damage to a guitar that Pirateship might minimize. Hopefully, I won't find out if that is the case.

Reminder to insure your stuff-especially a $7000 guitar

Bought it from eBay and I’ve never seen this level of damage before on a guitar. It must’ve been pierced by a forklift or a sorting machine got to it. The box and case are destroyed. Case is somewhat hard to fix. And the finish got dinged but no other major damage.

I learned that he didn’t insure it…the case alone is like $500 and the finish restoration is at least that amount too.

Question for US Buyers/Sellers: Is the used guitar market slowing down, or is it the tariffs?

Hi everyone, I am a seller based in Japan. I’d love to get your insights on something.

Recently, I’ve noticed a drop in purchases from buyers in the US compared to before. I'm wondering if this is mainly due to the impact of the Trump tariffs, or if the overall demand for used guitars is just declining? Or perhaps it’s a combination of both?

Also, I’m debating whether or not to include customs duties in the shipping cost. Currently, I include them in the shipping fee because I figure it makes it easier for buyers to calculate the total cost, even though it makes the visible shipping price look higher.

I would love to hear your thoughts or any advice on what would make you more inclined to buy from a seller in Japan. Thanks!
