Have 5-6 days for a motorcycle tour leaving from and finishing at Tokyo.

a working rough outline:
Day1-2: Head west towards Hakone pass and Izu skyline and around mt fuji
Day 2/3:/4 head towards nagaoka/niigata
Day4/5head back toward Tokyo
Does the timeline/ route seem realistic and any other stops or routes that would be cool to make time for?

Also general advice about riding in japan, IE: road rules, cops, country side travel, etc,are welcomed first time riding or driving in Japan

Solo motorcycle camping loop around Hokkaido — 8 days on a Ninja 400

Boarding the overnight ferry from Tsuruga right now. 21 hours to Tomakomai.

Bike: Ninja 400, with a tent, sleeping bag, and mat strapped on.

Riding clockwise. In Japan you ride on the left side of the road, which means counter-clockwise keeps the ocean right next to you the whole way — Ororon Line, Shiretoko, Nemuro. Like having a window seat the entire trip.

Planned route: Tomakomai → Niseko → Otaru → Wakkanai → Shiretoko → Nemuro → Asahikawa → Furano → Sapporo → Tomakomai

Will drop daily updates in the comments.

Anyone ridden Hokkaido? Best spots, campsites, onsen stays, and food — hit me with your recommendations.

New Bike and Break in service going on a 2000km tour after delivery

So I am picking up a brand new MT09 this Friday, and going on a 10 day Tohoku tour starting that evening, around 2000 KM.

I bought the bike from a YSP authorised dealer and asked could another YSP dealer do the break in service in Tohoku area. He said the service should be done at their shop and its okay to exceed the 1000km interval.

I did ask one more time when I went back to make final payment if there would be any problems with the bike if I delay the break in service to around 2k and he seemed to brush off any suggestion this is a problem.

A mate thinks this is wrong and may possibly impact the warranty, wonder what the consensus is here.

Could ask Yamaha HQ but don`t really fancy the hassle, and bit surprised the dealer seems to want to get the service done at their shop (and don`t want to piss my local dealer off insisting I get it serviced in Tohoku which would also take some time out of my tour).

The manual states

Avoid prolonged operation above 5300 r/min. NOTICE: After 1000 km (600 mi) of operation, the engine oil must be changed and the oil filter cartridge or element replaced.

Recommended topbox for a Suzuki Skywave250? Anyone ever try a TCMT trunk?

I recently got a skywave for touring with the wife, she's really happy about her new large seat and leg room.

While I wait for the bike to be delivered, I am looking for a topbox to go with it, ideally one that includes a backrest.

I've seen some on amazon, there is a particular one that I often see on small scooters, but after seeing it in person on a parked scooter, it looks a little flimsy and cheap to trust it with my wife's life. This one: Amazon.co.jp: リアボックス バイク用トップケース 48L 大容量 モノキーケース バイク収納ボックス バックレスト付き ブラック (A) : 車&バイク

Looking around I remembered that harleys often have the kind of trunk I am looking for, that is how I ended up on the TCMT website, and those look pretty nice, but they say that they are only compatible with halreys.

But if it has a mounting plate then you should be able to mount it on any old carrier, right?

Does anyone have experience with TCMT or similar trunks?

This is the specific one I am interested in for now: TCMT 13.7" Chrome Latches King Trunk with Wrap Around Backrest Pad & Chrome Top Luggage Rack Fit For Harley Touring '14-'26

Also, do you think it would look too silly on a skywave? lol

Also interested to hear if you have a topbox with a backrest you recommend, or at least that you've tried.

Thanks in advance!

advice on buying a brand new bike

As the title suggests, I’m currently in the market for a new bike. I’ve been to a few dealers so far and, thankfully, everything’s been fairly straightforward.

I’m posting here to pick the community’s brains for any wisdom, opinions, advice, or suggestions on how to get the most out of the experience — and, more importantly, avoid getting completely mugged off.

For example, are the service plans and oil change packages actually worth having, or are they mostly a load of rubbish?

Where to find custom helmets in Osaka?

Hi everyone! will be visiting Osaka towards the last week of May. I'm looking at getting either a Shoei/Arai helmet when I'm there. So far I've heard great things of the shoei gallery and the nankai parts main store but had a few questions:

  • Are these generally the go to for custom fittings + helmets? Are there any else that you would recommend?
  • Will I need to make a reservation for Nankai to get the fitting service - I can't seem to find it on the website.
  • I read that Shoei gallery isn't tax free, could anyone advise if Nankai is?
  • will there be difficulty with language as I don't speak any Japanese unfortunately.

Thanks for the help! Really appreciate it!
