Got her down off the hook since I’ve been messing around with a couple of other vintage mounts for the past couple of months. Was gonna give her a quick bath then offer it up on facebook marketplace.
Rode it around the block then started cleaning it followed by a little overdue minor servicing. Used some rubbing compound on the painted bits followed by some carnauba wax. Damn you look good. Rode it around all morning off and on. Nope still a keeper.

1987 Rockhopper

Had some buyer’s remorse after picking this up, as I thought I might’ve overpaid. After a little clean up I think I did alright ($75). Appears to be largely original, with minimal surface rust. I already replaced the seat, the other was crumbling. Still need to do a full tear down and cleaning, but it rides surprisingly well.

I’ve never worked with a U-brake before. Figure I’ll redo all the cables and housing, new grips, and pads.

This vintage is new to me. Any recommendations on what I should look at first? Things I should keep an eye on?

Steel is real…heavy…but the ride is comfy and compliant!

Edit - was only worried I’d overpaid cuz it was VERY dirty. Like had sat in the corner of a garage for 20 years, caked in dust and cobwebs.

build update & a day out with da pooch.

Got some pink housing, new shifters.
Took me forever to find a replacement stem.
But after seeing so many other builds I’ve been eyeing to source a specialized quill stem.
And I’d be damn made a friend who’s moving to Chicago but it’s kinda shot. Any one have paint restoration advice? Like should I just be a punk and fill in the scratches with sharpie or a paint pen? Critiques welcome! This is my first built let alone first real time working on a bike. If you see something say something 🫰🏼🚲🧪🧫

1995 Specialized Hardrock FS ( Dark Green) build. Need drivetrain, saddle, and aesthetic recommendations!

Hey everyone!
I've been working on bringing this 1995 Specialized Hardrock FS (in this awesome dark green color) back to life, and I’m at a point where I need some advice from the community to finish it up.
So far, the main modification I've made is swapping out the old dead suspension fork. Honestly, I just threw on the cheapest rigid fork I could find available from the brand "Point".
I need some help on a budget with:
Drivetrain & Shifters: This is the main thing I'm missing. I want to completely update the transmission and shifters. What are my best options here? (I'm open to going 1x or keeping it multi-chainring depending on what makes sense for this frame).
Saddle: The current one definitely has to go. Any recommendations for something comfortable that fits the vibe of the bike?
Aesthetics & Cockpit: I’m totally open to suggestions on how to improve the overall look of the build! I'm heavily considering changing the handlebars, but I'm open to any ideas (handlebars, grips, pedals, cable colors, whatever you think would look good).
Check out the pics of the current state. What would you do next if this was your project? Thanks in advance for the help!

‘90 sport build questions

I’ve had this ‘90 sport for a bit now and its time for at least a good upgrade.
I want to make it into a commuter thats a bit more efficient. Been considering turning into single speed, but haven’t seen much on the conversion. It is completely stock other than the mtb seat.
Where should I start?

Front End Friday - 1986 Rockhopper

Got this sweet single speed Hopper from my co-worker and did a few small upgrades, pedals, grips, tires, etc.

Been really enjoying the geometry, the 26 inch tires, their extra width as well as the fact it’s single speed.

Obviously the conversion isn’t factory, but a lot of the other components on the bike are, which is pretty sweet.

What are your thoughts on keeping the slingshot stem/handlebars?

Hope everyone has a good weekend!

Help with year

Looking to identify the year of this Rockhopper on Craigslist. This is the only photo on the listing.
