My latest creation—any suggestions for names or tools to add or remove?
Right, I have a broken Executive alox, its scissor backspring is broken. All blades are decent and serviceable. Peeler and long nail file are great and backspring works.
I have a stainless steel Windsor. Blade is a prybar, short nail file end is also snapped. Backspring is fine.
Can I swap the mainblade from the Executive and the peeler/long nail file layer into the Windsor? And perhaps the small blade into the Windsor?
What challenges are there other than removing the damned stainless scales? Is it possible? Are the pin sizes the same...both are presumably older models.
One difference i can see is the scissors are slightly different in style. I will try and attach photos of this.
Any help, insight or guidance is welcomed.
Many thanks in advance
Helooou Youutub. Yesterday's attempt didn't go very well, so today I tried a different method: X-shaped grooves made with a needle file (triangle shape). Now I'm satisfied and it looks better. The file works exclusively and is very aggressive (it can cut plastic material) I was supposed to do it with a file directly, but somehow I didn't think of it.
TL; Hi everyone, since the nail file for Vic Compact is often discussed here, I thought of doing something similar in the interest of science and this community and our nails. I started by drilling holes with an NC drill next to each other, it didn't go very well. Then I tried making grooves with a hacksaw, that didn't work either, finally I thought of using a belt sander. Be careful, the sander removes material very quickly. The result doesn't look good at all, but it was the first attempt, but it works and it grinds the nails. Then I thought that it could be done with a diamond file, one groove next to the other. It would be best to do it when disassembling the hook and write a program on a CNC milling machine, but I don't have time for that here at work, the machines are very busy. I believe that a few of you will also try to do it somehow, so post photos for inspiration. You are welcome. 😉 Edit : and when you screw it up like I did, it won't be visible!
Hello, everyone.
I just started customizing my 91mm, and I’d like to know if any of you have favorite accessories that you think are a must-have for it?
Right now it has 4 layers, and I’d like to add a 5th one, but I’m having a little trouble deciding.
Here’s how it’s set up right now:
Layer 1: Large serrated blade from the Spartan + nail files from the Companion, and at the back, the bottle opener/screwdriver combo from the 58mm Mini Champ
Layer 2: Scissors + hook
Layer 3: scalpel + small flathead screwdriver from a Swiss Champ
Layer 4: package opener from the Companion + pruning blade from Army 2, and on the back, the corkscrew
I’m seriously thinking about removing the scalpel and replacing it with one that can be opened with one hand, like F2S did (with the small, raised part on the back that’s used to open it quickly).
So there you have it—if anyone here has any ideas for must-have tools or a custom tool that isn’t an original Victorinox product, I’m all ears.
Swapped the corkscrew from the black climber to the deluxe tinker and added plus scales. Excited to try a more involved mod next
Hello! What have I done wrong here? It’s my first time peening and making a SAK this way. I’m using an 8oz brass ball peen hammer. I was hitting each side and then flipping it and hitting the other side, trying to rotate it regularly. My guesses as to what went wrong are:
- Leaving too much brass rod sticking out before peening, causing it to bend when hitting it with a hammer
- Hitting too hard
I guess once it bends it’s over?
Bonjour,
I've had a CyberYeoman for years and have always been bothered by the cops that the inline Phillips has benefits, vs simply being a crappy compromise. The CyberLite Yeoman would have been better because it actually increased the tool count and utility.
So enter the Mark II.
Layer 1: Scissor and parcel hook with diamond file
Layer 2: Bit Driver & bit Caddy
Layer 3; OG Magnifier (titanium one on the way) and the cap lifter from a 93m alox with a modified backspring and hand fitted spacer
Layer 4: 91mm main blade, 93mm Reamer, another hand fitted spacer and 0.25mm bronze washer.
The liners are titanium I had laser cut, they were hand polished to 5000 grit and then anodized at 96volts, and while they look great, I can do better and have a gem like finish that I envision. It's really worth using multi-etch instead of Whink, and if you are doing titanium liners you want grades 1 or 2 commercially pure titanium, as it colors better than grade 5.
So what's next. I'll be redoing the liners, the backsprings and tools will be re-cleaned, and polished to 10000grit. I'm considering a few options for embellishments on the tools and backsprings. Scales are still a toss up between green plus scales, custom painted Silvertech, or making custom plus scales from Lichtenstein processed wood/kirinite/or antler and doing exposed rivets with a bale.
I'll have part 2 ready for next week when my multi-etch has been delivered and I've made some decisions.
Some new trivia learned from this is that there are at least 4 backspring variations for the magnifier layer.
Q: Where can I learn:
- The names that distinguish one liner shape from another
- Which liner goes between which tools
- The names of the various springs and the tools they belong to
- Which size pins
After looking around, I think the tools I want would fit into a 6-layer mod, outlined below:
- Layer 1: Magnifying glass/in-line philips screwdriver (SC = the one on Swiss Champ)
- Layer 2: Pliers
- Layer 3: Scissors
- Layer 4: Metal File
- Layer 5: Wood saw
- Layer 6: Electrician blade blade/Combo can opener-cap lifter (Compact)
- Back Layer 1: Nothing
- Back Layer 2: Nothing
- Back Layer 3: Parcel Hook (Compact)
- Back Layer 4: Optional: big chisel (SC)
- Back Layer 5: Nothing
- Back Layer 6: Reamer Sewing Awl /cork screw
Q: Is there a different arrangement that would allow them to fit in 5-layers instead?
Q: And lastly, are my Layer 6 tools and Back Layer 6 tools all compatible as is?
Ive a brain injury. So Ive been really struggling to try to work out these details before I invest money in the parts and tools to build this. Much appreciation for any assistance folks can lend me in thinking through this process!
Edit to add, if this mod configuration doesnt already have a name, I'm either going to call it the Compact-Vice-Champion, or the Compact-Contender.
Picked up a Victorinox 84mm Tourist on eBay — Gemini says it's from the 70s. Got some titanium scales from AliExpress, tried anodizing for the first time, and put it all together. Here's the result.
As the title says, what type of brass is right for a 91mm pivot?
After many frustrating hours of trying to figure out how the heck to put these together, I finally finished my two custom builds! One for the keychain and one for the pocket.
The 93mm is a Pioneer Alox donor with a steel toothpick and steel tweezers from SAK mods, as well as a pen, all sitting inside of IronLeafCustom's g10 scales, it also features a KietCustom magnacut steel blade.
The 58mm is a rambler donor with a vg-10 steel blade, stock screwdriver multitool, stock scissors, and a nail file with a ruler laser etched on the back, with stock tweezers, a Leatherman eyeglass tool, and copper scales.
Took a while to get everything, but I couldn't be happier!
I have this Deluxe Tinker that I never carry, I converted to a Mechanic. I really want a Compact that has the combo tool on it. Would anyone be interested in some kind of trade. Mods, I hope this post is acceptable. I didn’t see any rules against this type of post.
