How to improve this unit

This was my first crawler. I've taken it completely apart and put it back together a hundred times.

Tried 2 other chassis, about 4 different types and sizes of shocks and wheels. I went through the wanting to make it look like a monster trucks phase.

I'm still not happy with it though. The shocks seem to have no spring.

Are the links and chassis not compatible? Are the shocks mounted in the wrong spots?

Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you in advance.

Went with the dually

Making progress, added a ton of weight up front and the new bumper. Should be done with the cage soon. Want to add a front winch too

Took the BC to the Sierra Nevadas

It was crawler paradise everywhere I went! So much fun.

You guys ever think, “I bet I’m the only person who has ever RC’d this specific spot”?

Does anyone actually buy prebuilt custom crawlers?

I’ve been scrolling Facebook marketplace recently and see a lot of people asking outrageous prices for modified crawlers. Some people asking up to $500 just for a gladiator with a brushless system and some injora parts. Seems nuts to me but has anyone actually spent that kind of money on a used custom build?

DIY side plates?

I am using a generic LCG carbon fibre chassis that did not come with sliders or side plates. I think I may need them for mounting the receiver or battery maybe. I'm going to be mounting an Injora IR60 body on it which reduces the space at the sides to about 1cm or maybe 1.5cm (I think). Any tips for DIY side plates? I don't have a 3D printer so I'm thinking DIY. Hacking apart a lego brick? Cutting out part of a plastic lid? Folding the side of a alu can? Can styrene take a 90 degree bend? Skip side plates altogether and cable tie to the chassis?

Can I use a bigger battery?

So, I fat fingered the Amazon order and got 35c batteries instead of the 30c.

Will this blow up my motor? Or do some harm to my car?

Should I just return them, or will I be fine?

Sorry if this is dumb, im brand new to this

My first scratch build - basic truck

I'm building a basic budget truck on an LCG chassis. Nothing fancy but, still plenty challenging enough for a total noob. Most of the parts have been bought cheaply from Ali or Amzn. Some are Injora, a couple are "Injora-adjacent" and the rest are cheaper after-market I have cobbled together in the hope that it all works out.

It's not even close to a roller yet but, this is it so far:

  • Generic LCG carbon fibre chassis kit from Ali (Branded YEAHRUN but, seen plenty of others the same. I think it is a match for a Meus chassis but, it has less parts. No sliders or links for example. No instructions so I just looked at pictures on the site listing to get the basic set up. Seems ok and has proved to be a decent match for the body kit.
  • Generic aluminium flat skid plate from Ali (Branded Axspeed, the transmission mounted just fine. So far so good.)
  • Generic high-clearance C10 chassis links from Ali (Branded Fimonda - not so great as the threads are too long for the ends so I have gaps. I may get a multi-tool to cut a mm or two from each thread. I did buy a set of C10 and Deadbolt to attempt a CBolt but, I'm sticking with just the C10 for now.)
  • GOUPRC 2204 brushless motor, mount and transmission package (Attempting a forward oriented mount. There was a 1 or 2mm clearance between the motor shell and the chassis shelf but, I removed that to put the magnet mount so there is more room now. I may put the shelf somewhere else e.g. for the ESC.)
  • Very IR60-ish body (not bought from Injora but, it's identical). Now I know this I will buy Injora next time to support them even though it will cost a bit more. Assembled and seems to line up well with the chassis but, we'll see when I have more parts in place.

Next up (in no particular order):

  • Generic FS2A 4CH receiver which needs soldering. Hoping to pair that with a 4ch FlySky transmitter that came with my RockVan. Update: it won't so I have ordered a FlySky GT5. Thanks u/RCbuilds4cheapr.
  • Generic C10 steel drive-shafts.
  • Injora +4mm Nylon Planet axles.
  • Injora 40mm Big Bore shocks (with Traxxas 30WT oil).
  • Injora 1.0" beadlock wheels and 63 x 22mm 1.0" MAVERIX M/T Tires and Silicone Inserts.
  • Servo: Meus 8kg, EMax ES08MA or 9IMOD 11KG.
  • No battery yet. Need to see if I can use one I have and make an adaptor for the ESC.

Whats a better motor?

Whats a better motor? My stock motor is slowly dying so im looking for another brushed motor since i don’t have the budget to go full brushless yet. If you know any other cheap brands that offer good slow crawl let me know!

Which version should I get my 6 year old for his birthday?

My son is almost 6 and I'm looking at getting him an RC car for his birthday. I've absolutely gone down a rabbit hole with this and am hoping someone can strip this down and help me figure out what to get cuz I'm muddled and also can't tell what's current info vs outdated.

He's wanted an RC car for a while and loves playing with them when he has the opportunity. But he's also often struggles to control them (hence why I'd prefer to start slow). That's part of why I'm looking at the SCX24 - because they're not super fast and hopefully won't frustrate him the way a crazy speedy one does? But I also want it to be sturdy (or have replacement parts) when he inevitably drives it off something or runs into a wall or whatever.

So:

  1. Which SCX24 should I get if my priority is affordable and fun for my 6yo? He doesn't care what it looks like/car brands - he's just gonna be over the moon about an RC car.
  2. Are they all pretty much the same - like can't go wrong with any of them - and just minor differences? Or are there a few clear standout winners for this situation?
  3. I suspect he'll want to drive a lot - are there batteries/chargers you recommend to help maximize his drive time + keep the batteries from crapping out?
  4. Should I be looking at something else instead? A different brand/model/type/etc?

I have no idea about RC cars - I just want him to love it - so if I'm not thinking of something, please let me know!

Thanks!

ESC test run

I was contacted to assemble an AliExpress AM32 ESC for a friend's SCX30. This has a BEC set to 5.98V which is right on the edge of the voltage rating of the upgraded servo in the build.

I swapped on some tiny tires on my AX24 to reduce the torque multiplier of tall tires and to better simulate the much smaller SCX30 tires.

Parts for 3D printed Meus V1 axles

I am working on my first build and I printed the Meus V1 axles from 24Yep.

Trying to make sure I get the right parts from Meus Racing.

I need these parts right? Also what gearing should I look at getting.
