Hey everyone. I got admitted into cox as a transfer and I just got my financial aid package which was very generous but I still have around 16K left I tried calling the financial aid office but she wasnt much help. I am considered a high financial need student but I really cant afford 16K a year and SMU is my top choice. Has anyone here successfully appealed their financial aid as a transfer student? Or has anyone had their SMU Opportunity Award increased after submitting a personal statement? If so, what was your experience?
I’m looking at both schools. I come from a lower income family and do not have the unlimited resources that I hear about with many SMU students. I believe I can get into both schools; however, I’m worried about the culture and if I will be accepted if I don’t have big money.
I was applying for classes (external junior transfer) and i expected to take mainly finance classes. I was aware of the Second Language Requirement so im taking that as well but my courses consist of BLI 1100 and 1210 but I have a whole bunch of proficiencies/exp. I took over 60 credits in community college and I they all transferred but still.
Im just kinda confused 😭
Hey everyone, long shot here, but I met an amazing guy last Saturday night in Dallas. He’s 21, 6’3”, Turkish-American, and just finished his pre-med track at SMU. He mentioned he lives in a condo right near campus. We had a great night. If this sounds like you or a close friend, please shoot me a DM! To verify it’s you, just message me the name of the place where we met.
I recently graduated from the University of Texas at Dallas Naveen Jindal School of Management with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems and Technology. While I’m proud of earning my degree, I can’t help but feel disappointed and saddened by my overall college experience.
Socially, I often felt alienated and disconnected. It seemed like many social circles were dominated by particular cultural or ethnic groups, and I struggled to find a sense of belonging.
Looking back, I sometimes wonder whether I would have had a very different experience if I had attended a different university or been part of a different social environment.
Now that I’ve graduated, I’m considering whether it would make sense to pursue another bachelor’s degree, possibly a BBA, at SMU. Since many of my credits could transfer, part of me feels this could be an opportunity to have the college experience I feel I missed.
However, I’m also aware that this would require a significant investment of time and money.
Maybe a Master's instead of MBA?
For those who have been in a similar situation: Is pursuing a second bachelor’s degree primarily for a better university experience a wise decision? Or would I be better off focusing on graduate school, career development, networking, and building a social life outside of college?
I’d appreciate any honest advice or perspectives.
Hello everyone!
I am a rising junior and am currently transferring into a 4 year university after completing my first two years at TCC. I was pretty certain on finishing my degree at UTD (Comp. info. Systems and Technology) but did a tour and info session at SMU and got into the COX business school, so now I am stuck and not sure what to pick.
Info:
SMU
- would have an estimated $65k-$80k in debt
- 4-5 semesters to finish
- would study business analytics & supply chain management
- obviously interested in the alumni and networking opportunities
UTD
- would have an estimated $10k-$15k in debt
- probably only 4 semesters to finish
- would study Comp Info Systems and Tech
- I know there is still a network but it’s less intense than the connections/resources at SMU (to my knowledge)
My question is: is the debt I would take on worth the benefits of SMU? I don’t mind not having as much of a “college experience” and would be commuting to both schools. What are your experiences in college and how that affects your job/opportunity prospects? In this economy, is it worth it to “pay for more connections” for better odds in the job market?
I might stay in DFW after graduation but am equally interested in pursuing internships/jobs in NYC.
TIA! I appreciate any and all perspectives - I’ve been stressing about this for months😅
Hello all,
I want to rent near SMU and would like to pay under 1,600, INCLUDING additional fees.
I am a woman, so I don't want to live in a dangerous place or a place that has roaches, etc. I don't mind really small places or older places as long as they do not have bugs or awful management.
Please recommend places :)
