Hi,
we’re four guys, and we’ve put together Westminster’s restaurant scene in an app called Vota. The concept is simple: you see two places side by side (for example Famille vs. Kachina Southwestern Grill), you choose the place you’d rather go to, and the ranking updates instantly. The more people vote, the more accurate the list gets over time. There are still a few duplicates here and there, but I’m continuously cleaning up the data.

Here’s the iPhone version, with categories that actually fit Westminster’s food scene:
https://apps.apple.com/app/vota-restaurant-ratings/id6744969212

And here’s the Android version (finally live):
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vota.app

P.S. I’m not from Westminster (I live in Gothenburg). I’m not collecting data, not selling anything, and the app does not use AI-generated content. I’m posting in a few different subreddits because we now support more regions, and I genuinely want honest feedback from people who actually know the area.

Top comment Deletes a US State #45

Here is the updated (Correct) map, crisis averted. I thought we had a riot on our hands!

I can finally relax now after all that drama! Anyway Colorado is now deleted as it should be. Just to make it clear, editing comments is fine if it’s the top as long as it doesn’t change the outcome of which state gets deleted like we had before. I thought that was common sense but clearly not to some people.

I just want to thank everyone for all the kind comments and support. I try to read as many of the comments as I can but each post has a minimum of 2000 so it’s pretty hard most the time. I have some big ideas for the finale so stay tuned.

Most importantly, spread the word as much as possible if your state is still in the game! Share, cross post to rally as much support for your state as possible. This is the endgame now!

I don't understand some aspects of photography in art.

I have seen a photographer downtown selling what amounts to photos of his trips overseas. He booked tours and took pictures. These are not hard to get photos at all. Any tourist of any age could get them. He was selling them for a high price.

Why fund his vacation?

I know not everyone can afford to go on these trips but if you can why not just save the money for your trip? If you can't why not save the money for a memory of some sort?

Another genre that I struggle to understand is taking pictures of Native Americans and selling them. I know culture needs to be shared but it is strange to take pictures of people like they are strange and foreign and making a profit off them. .

I am not talking about Native American artists themselves. I am talking about people like Edward. S Curtis who removed modern items from his pictures and George Catlin who pushed the idea that Natives were going extinct. These artists would swap items across tribes creating a false image. They also pushed the Vanishing Indian idea freezing Natives in a moment in time.

When I was a kid I went downtown and I saw Native Americans on T-Shirts and I saw pictures of Natives living their everyday lives framed on walls. Both of these things creeped me out. How would you feel if your Monday was hanging on a wall like it was exotic? The people in the pictures did not look happy.

I don't understand the appeal of Ansel Adams but at least he was creating something new and I respect that.

The only genre I understand is photojournalism. That comes with risk and is trying to change the world. I get paying someone 3k for a photo when they dodged rubber bullets to get it.

When I was younger I went to a fine art photo gallery because it covered a subject I liked. The photos were just staged shots. Maybe the goal was to capture people in ordinary moments but it fell flat to me. The owner was very rude to me as well. Growing up here this was another aspect of the art world I began to see as a scam just like abstract art.

Casual Restaurant

Hi there!! I’m meeting someone for dinner tonight. I need a place that’s casual, not too loud but with some privacy for a business conversation. Something close-ish to I25. Any recommendations? I live in Albuquerque, so not super familiar with places in Santa Fe.

Door stores

Hello, we need to replace a rotten external door. We have some experience with home depot, and things have really fallen off a cliff there in terms of workers leaving and service. Rather than going to one of the big box stores, does anyone know of good local options for doors? We don't want anything fancy and don't want to spend a fortune.

Jacob Anders Endorses Matt Dodson for U.S. Senate in New Mexico

I am proud to endorse Matt Dodson for Senate.

Matt is a bold, principled fighter and a Democratic Socialist who has consistently stood up for working New Mexicans. As a USAF veteran, community organizer, small business owner, and someone who has knocked on thousands of doors in conservative areas, Matt brings real-world experience, integrity, and a deep commitment to lifting up every corner of the state.

He understands the real challenges facing New Mexico families: universal healthcare, affordable housing, good-paying jobs, affordable education, and making sure working people aren’t left behind by corporate interests. Matt has the vision and courage to deliver real progress instead of the same old establishment politics. In these times, we need a Senator who isn’t afraid to speak truth to power and who refuses corporate PAC and AIPAC money.

What stands out most about Matt Dodson is his authenticity and unwavering dedication to building a nation that works for the 99%, not the 1%. Like me, he is too pissed off to be bought off, and has proven he will fight hard for economic justice, veterans, working families, and a brighter future for our children and communities.

New Mexicans, I urge you to support Matt Dodson in the June 2nd Democratic primary. Let’s bring fresh, courageous, and people-first leadership to Washington!

Santa Fe itinerary gut check — what would you add or change?

Hi! My husband and I are heading to Santa Fe this weekend and I’d love thoughts on our plan so far — especially whether we’re missing anything great or trying to fit in too much! we wanted a mix of great hiking and culture.

UPDATE: i have all reservations already!

Friday - explore the town

  • Breakfast at Sage Bakehouse
  • Georgia O’Keeffe Museum
  • Lunch at either El Chile Toreado or La Choza
  • Walk around town
  • Dinner at Sazón

Saturday - Georgia O'Keefe home / Ghost Ranch

  • Santa Fe Farmers Market at the Railyard
  • Georgia O’Keeffe Home & Studio Tour in Abiquiú
  • Considering an afternoon stop at Plaza Blanca or Rim Vista Trail / Ghost Ranch for a scenic hike
  • Dinner at Paper Dosa or The Shed

Sunday - Tent Rocks / Ten Thousand Waves

  • Tent Rocks in the morning
  • Ten Thousand Waves early evening
  • Dinner at Izanami there

Would love any thoughts on:

  • The best Saturday afternoon option after Abiquiú
  • Worth trying to do Bandolier?
  • A good sports bar for the Knicks game
  • Anything we should swap, skip, or add.

This video is why I would rather call myself a Mexican than a Spaniard any day of the week.

We should be honoring the brave men and women who died defending their home from the Taylor/Missouri Volunteer Rampages.

We should honor the men lynched for fighting a occupation not Juan Ornate or De Vargas.

I call myself a Mexican because of the second two promises of The Three Guarantees.

Mexican is not a dirty world like we were brain washed to think it is. It's who we really are.

The Mexicans who died at the Alamo died fighting on the right side of history as the video will show you.

https://searchlightnm.org/race-and-class-in-new-mexico/

A lot of the Spanish thing came from L. Bradford Prince in the 1800's as the link above will show you.

The Americans all know we are really Mexican and laugh at us when we claim to be Spanish. We are no more Spanish then the people of Chihuahua.

Don't let the system that was made to imprison our mind keep you locked up.

i do not want to deny that New Mexicans were huge slave traders. Some Native's were as well but that does not give the New Mexicans the excuse to wash that history away.

I believe Mexico would have outlawed slavery here if we had won.

I also believe once we start getting massacred we become the good guys.

The Americans came here not just for land but to increase their slave holding lands and they can't wash that history away either which they try to do when the lecture us and talk down to us about our past.

NM Rep. Melanie Stansbury: "How can the Interior Dept justify $1 billion in cuts to Tribal funding?"

u/JollyGreenJarju — 4 days ago

It is really hard living among so many people who move here and look down on me for no reason. I could never move to Hawaii and act better than the locals.

Everyday it's insult after insult. It is one thing if you moved here to work at the lab and never claimed to care about the so called culture but so many people who move here do it for the so called culture.

I have been told "Wow you don't sound New Mexican" "You?!?!?! own a house" "They are all criminals" "They don't even own passports" "They need us" "They are violent for no reason" "All they do is drugs" "My class is going to be so easy because it's all New Mexicans"

Trust me, me and my circle would have been just fine without your art and pennies. In fact I think housing would be so much better if we were able to make our own world without all this tourist Santa Fe style garbage. There is a brain drain here. The smartest New Mexicans leave for places with real community but a lot more would have stayed if this place actual meant something to the common man.

They also love to throw De Vargas in our face to deflect from their crimes as if most New Mexicans haven't already moved away and only a handful still even care about the parade. Like they didn't own slaves and do Sandy Creek.

I have only seen a handful of art here that said anything worth saying so you aren't any better.

Fall solo trip- looking for reccs

I have the rare opportunity to take a trip without my husband and kids in early October. I’ve set my sights on Santa Fe as it seems to have what I’m looking for- outdoors, spas, culture, museums.

On my list:

- Georgia okeefe museum

- Meow Wolf

- Ten Thousand Waves

- Chamisa Trail and/or Dale Ball Trails

- museum of contemporary native arts

- Bandelier

I’m open to reccs for anything but I’m specifically looking for vegetarian friendly restaurants (at least 1-2 options that aren’t salads!) and where to stay. I’m between an Airbnb so I can sit outside at night (I do not drink so will not be partaking in bar life) and hotel just for ease. I’ll be renting a car so no worries about location.

I’m also a lifelong equestrian so if there is a worthwhile guided trail experience (bonus points if it’s for experienced riders!) with well cared for horses, I’d love to hear about it.

Windy in May?

I have a question: is it unusually windy in Santa Fe right now? As a local, I remember March and April being windy, but not May. I recently moved out by Beckner and it’s been so windy here that I’s can't open my windows because dust and dirt blow in. Is this normal?

Anyone looking to sell their wedding dress or white formal gown?

I’m dress shopping and would love to buy second hand. Just curious if anyone in the community has a dress they are ready to part with. Even a white formal gown that wasn’t designed as a wedding dress would work.

I am looking for a simple, minimalist, understated, elegant sort of gown. We are having a very small ceremony in the woods followed by a party around a campfire, so a ball gown is isn’t really the vibe and not my style anyway. I am thinking floor length but have even considered an above the knee dress… so I’d be interested to see anything!

I am 5’3” and 135 pounds. I think that’s a size 6 but I have fit into dresses marked 4 and dresses marked 10… so I don’t know what to think!

Thank you so much gals!
