PNM staffing shortage, high temperatures drive up New Mexico power bills.

Not to be a conspiracy theorist, but we only use a swamp cooler at night when we sleep and our bill for the month was almost $200 - also our apartment is tiny and we rarely have lights on.

Everything under 500k is a small condo and 90% of all listings have a monthly HOA fee. It’s too much.

I’m so burnt out on dealing with entitled boomers.

My boyfriend and I went out to lunch yesterday and while we were talking to the host about our table, a boomer walked in front of us and screamed “LASTNAME RESERVATION FOR 1:30”. Cutting off both us and the host.

At my own job, I’m constantly having to deal with wealthy older people having tantrums about everything. The lighting, the music, the temperature, the food, the wine selection. Nothing is ever good enough.

A few weeks ago a boomer lady that comes in every so often looked me up and down with a slack jaw then said “You aren’t as fat as you used to be.”

In the last year a handful of boomer drivers in my area (the population of my town is super old) have crashed into various businesses with their cars just by not paying attention to the road.

I can’t even go to the grocery store during the day because there are so many boomer meltdowns at any inconvenience and then I’m stuck waiting in the checkout line while the worker is getting screamed at, or I’m waiting in an aisle while the whole area I need to be is blocked with a cart and a person just standing there staring.

I’m starting to feel a ton of resentment toward older (usual wealthy) people because they are so out of touch, hoard resources and treat anyone under the age of 50 like they are stupid and their servants.

I know boomers aren’t a monolith, and my parents are boomers and they are kid respectful people, but damn, I’m getting so fatigued.

An outdoor store was getting rid of a mini display tent and she’s obsessed.

This is the most depressing 4th of July I’ve ever experienced.

Everyone I know is either working or just relaxing because they are exhausted from working two or three jobs to pay rent. Food prices are insane. Gas prices are insane. The president himself is insane. The streets in my town are quiet and dead and there is a fireworks ban because we are at extreme risk of wildfire, but there are still jerkoffs blowing things up in various dark corners of town. It’s a really creepy energy overall.

What’s happening on the 4th?

I have the 4th off and I didn’t expect to! I don’t want to do pancakes on the plaza or the fireworks show, anything else going on in the area?

How come I haven’t seen one rich old person get arrested in all of these drunk driving stings?

As somebody who has/ does/ will probably always bartend around town, I see the Las Campanas crowd getting loaded daily, spending the mornings going from bar to bar, getting in their luxury vehicles after lying about having a ride or an uber, then speeding away. Every mugshot I’ve seen from this operation seemingly a young person of color and the arrests are happening more toward the Southside. I really wonder why that is?

AIO for returning to the store pay for accidentally stolen items?

My partner and I just went to a big box store to buy a bunch of stuff for around the house, and while we were shopping around I put some smaller cosmetic and toiletry items in the cup holder of the cart. We had a lot of big items (cat litter, paper towels, etc) and when we went to check out I totally forgot about the little items in the cart and I guess the clerk didn’t notice either.

When we got out of the store and noticed what happened I panicked and put the items in the bag, but when we were home I started feeling pretty nervous about it because this store is notorious for throwing the book at shoplifters and is basically a facial recognition software panopticon hell, so I decided to drive back with the stuff I took and paid for it so I didn’t have to worry.

My partner thinks it would have been no big deal if I didn’t go back and pay (but obviously he was supportive of my choice either way), and it really was just a mistake, but I felt too squirmy about it. AIO?

The quality of restaurants in America is in the toilet.

Everything is expensive and expired. Most restaurants are going with the cheapest possible options and charging the max. I just got food poisoning from a food truck that sold me noticeably expired chicken and after the second bite I threw it away and was sick almost immediately after.

I’ve been sick from dining out more in the past six months than I have been in my whole life before this.
