Any Shuttle buses from Jurong East to Tampines ?

Do you live in Jurong and commute to Tampines for work? I’m looking for more affordable travel options between Jurong and Tampines. Taking a Grab is too expensive, and taking the MRT is too tiring. Please suggest some alternatives!

Singapore 96-hour VFTF for Indian passport holder with unused Australian visitor visa — will this work?

Hi all, looking for recent experiences with the Visa Free Transit Facility (VFTF) at Changi.

My wife holds an Indian passport and we are trying to confirm she can use the 96-hour VFTF instead of applying for a Singapore visa. Details:

- Itinerary: Koh Samui → Singapore (arriving 27 July) → New Delhi (departing 29 July), so about 48 hours in Singapore, arriving and departing by air

- She holds an Australian Visitor visa (subclass 600), multiple entry, valid until June 2028

- The catch: the Australian visa has never been used — she has not travelled to Australia yet

As far as I can tell she meets all the published ICA criteria (transiting between two third countries, onward ticket within 96 hours, qualifying visa with well over one month validity). The single-entry/used-visa restriction should not apply since hers is multiple entry.

Questions:

  1. Has anyone used VFTF with a completely unused Australian (or UK/US) visa? Any issues at Changi immigration or at airline check-in in Thailand?

  2. Do airlines flying Samui/Bangkok → Singapore reliably recognise VFTF, or is there a risk of being denied boarding?

  3. Anything beyond the visa grant notice, onward ticket, hotel booking and SG Arrival Card worth carrying?

Would rather not pay an agent for an e-visa if VFTF works, but happy to if people have had problems. Thanks!

Shopping during layover

Hey friends,

Planning to take the MRT into the city during an 8 hr layover - goal of shopping for snacks(dried fruits, chips etc). Stores/chains(like big c in BKK) walkable from stations along the way would be most ideal. Does Tanah Merah stn have any stores that fit the bill? Open to closer stops on east-west line. Please suggest names with corresponding stations/lines.

TIA

Edit : Looking to buy dried mango, similar sweet treats, shrimp chips etc. Prefer such shopping outside airports if an option, hence. Changi is the absolute last option.

Has anyone been allowed to go to the top of Marina Bay Sands during the free Changi Airport Singapore City Tour?

Hi everyone,

I have a long layover in Singapore and I'm planning to join the free Changi Airport Singapore City Tour, specifically the Marina Bay Sands & Singapore River Tour.

From what I've read, the itinerary includes Marina Bay Sands, but I'm not sure whether the stop is only around the outside or if visitors are ever allowed to go up to the SkyPark Observation Deck at the top of Marina Bay Sands.

Has anyone here done this tour recently? If so:

Did the tour include going up to the top of Marina Bay Sands?

If not, were you allowed enough free time to buy a ticket and go up on your own?

Would leaving the group briefly be allowed, or is everyone expected to stay together throughout the stop?

Roughly how much time do you get at Marina Bay Sands?

I'd love to experience the skyline if possible, but I also don't want to risk missing the tour or creating problems for the guide.

Any recent experiences or tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Questions about bringing prescription medications.

Hello! I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease back in December, and this will be my first time traveling to Singapore with all my new medications with me. I have been in SG before, but only with about 5 or 6 different meds, so I always just bring my pill organizer that will fit enough for 2 weeks.

My question is, now that I am taking over a dozen pills daily and will be in SG for a week, will it be necessary for me to keep the pills in the bottles so it shows my name, medication name, and pill description? Or is it ok for me to again use my pill organizer and arrange them by day/time I am taking them?

Thanks in advance.

Hop-on Hop-off style tour suggestions?

Alright, I'm in Singapore for a few days with my in-laws, staying at Sentosa. Sentosa is not really my thing, and I'm wanting to see a bit of Singapore.

Thing is, we've just spent 3 weeks in China walking everywhere, my feet are cooked and everything hurts, I need this to be easy.

What have you got? I was thinking some sort of hop on hop off thing, but there might be better ideas out there? Thanks

Hi all, visiting Singapore for work and want to take advantage of the opportunity and explore the area. I was thinking of 4-5 days exploring Singapore and then 2-3 in more nature-tropical setting. I've read that Bintan and other Riau islands are not worth it and Bali is overcrowded. Advice?

Travel questions

Hi, I’m travelling to Singapore in a few weeks and had some questions. I’m a solo female traveller and I want to plan for things beforehand thus your help would be greatly appreciated.

  1. Can I wear a mask in public transport? (To protect my immunity)
  2. I want to use a tripod in public for taking my photos, is it safe? Should I be worried about theft? (I heard Singaporeans are not social so I’m unsure on asking somebody else to take my photos)
  3. Can I wear off shoulder/tube tops? Is it okay to wear a backless top with my inner wear being visible? (Obviously not wearing these at religious places but otherwise is it okay?)
  4. Should I be booking tickets for all attractions on Klook in advance or should I do it just for the crowded ones?
  5. is revenge of the mummy at USS scary?
  6. is it okay to use cash at malls or is card preferred (my bank has a high international transaction fee so I would prefer to use cash)
  7. I’ve also was read that locals go for picnics at marina barrage, I also want to try it. Is there a place where I can rent out a picnic mat?

Edit: Thank you for all the responses. This has really helped me plan my trip better!

I finally tried singapore's "people's michelin" fishball noodles...

I kept seeing people call this place the "people's Michelin," so when I was walking around Raffles City and realized it was lunch time, I figured... why not?

The queue at LiXin Teochew Fishball Noodles was pretty much nonstop. Lots of locals were eating there too, which always feels like a good sign, so I joined the line and ordered a bowl of mee pok.

Honestly, the stall itself is super ordinary. Just your typical hawker stall. Nothing fancy.

The noodles came tossed in a pretty simple sauce. At first it looked kinda plain, but once I mixed everything together, it had this nice balance of savory, slightly sweet, and a bit of that fragrant oil. The mee pok had a good chew to it and didn't go soggy.

The crispy pork lard was probablly my favorite part. Crunchy, super fragrant, and it made the whole bowl way more satisfying.

The fish balls were great too. They had that fresh, bouncy texture instead of the soft, overly processed kind. Defintely one of the better fish balls I've had.

I ended up sitting by the window while eating, with the Raffles City skyline right across the street. Not a bad lunch view at all.

Price-wise, it was around SGD 10 per person, which felt pretty reasonable for Singapore. Is it the best bowl of noodles I've ever had? Probably not. But I can definitely see why it's so popular. Whether it's worth the hype... I guess that depends on your taste.

Two Australians landing in Singapore for a week!

The plan is pretty simple: eat well, wander around and get a feel of the different neighbourhoods and cultures that make up the city.

Where would you spend your time? Are there any neighbourhoods worth exploring in depth rather than just stopping by for a meal?

And when it comes to hawker food, are the famous spots worth the queues or have your best meals come from places that don't make it into the guidebooks?

We are considering purchasing an eSIM, any recommendations? How safe does Singapore generally feel at night, especially when using public transport or walking around different neighbourhoods?

And are there any good ways to meet locals for a drink, meal or casual hangout while visiting?
