Seoul 2022 - The Streets of Jong-ro

I’m back home now after spending nearly 6 years living abroad in South Korea, but still editing photos from my time there 😅 Here is one that I took at night with my Canon 650D. The neon signs created a cool effect on the wet street. All editing was done in Darktable and GIMP.

Smoothie machine

I saw a smoothie machine at rest stop in Korea.

Pick a fruit cup from the fridge , put it in the machine, and blend it for you.

So fresh.

It is a night in Seoul where I suddenly miss the sea of Masan from a certain day... (Seokgyo Village in Masan, Starbucks under Machang Bridge, Gusan, Sujeong)

An Octopus Feast for Three Generations in Okcheon: Spicy Nakji, Bossam, and Galbi-jjim

We celebrated an elder family member’s birthday with a nakji(octopus, 낙지) feast in Okcheon. Seven of us shared a full Korean set meal: braised beef short ribs, spicy stir-fried octopus, banchan, extra nakji-bokkeum, and nakji bossam.

The nakji-bokkeum came in a spicy red sauce, while the galbi-jjim was tender beef short ribs braised in a savory soy-based sauce. Nakji bossam was especially good: spicy octopus served with slices of boiled pork.

The octopus had some heat, but it was easy for everyone to enjoy by pairing it with somyeon noodles, bossam, or lettuce wraps. From elders to an elementary-school-aged child, everyone at the table found a combination that worked.

Okcheon may be less familiar to international visitors, but it is an easy driving trip from Daejeon. Along with good local food, the Okcheon Traditional Culture Experience Center makes it worth a stop.

Tip for visitors who do not love spicy food:
Don’t eat the nakji by itself first.
Wrap a small amount with bossam and vegetables, or mix it with somyeon noodles to soften the heat.

Depictions of tigers over time in Joseon

In Joseon Korea, tigers were often depicted as fierce and powerful in paintings. They were also associated with high ranking government officials.

Over time, as the government became more inept and corrupt, drawings of tigers changed to make them look more comical and foolish. This was to reflect the ineptitude of those in authority.

This is also a reference to how the mod of this server just hopped in to make one goddam karma-farming post while completely ignoring the state the server is in.

A famous Jajangmyeon restaurant I always visit whenever I go to Masan, Gyeongnam. With ‘Shin’ (a Chinese character meaning spicy).

It turns out that it's one of the best clip I've ever gotten.😬
