Some suggestions on how you can enjoy sprouts while travelling :))

Hi!

u/Spiceshunter liked my ideas a lot, and felt that i should put up a post on this. Thank you buddy.

As my name suggests, I am pretty much a 'gypsy'. I travel as a backpacker quite a lot. And here a few things I do to ensure that I can enjoy sprouts every day, regardless of where i am

I shall be glad if my suggestions come in handy.

a) I purchase Red Lentils, Horse Gram, and Moong by the kg, but get them packed in packets of 200 grams each. This a 1 day meal for me, once sprouted.

Red Lentils double in weight after being soaked for 8 hours, and Triple in weight after another 12-16 hours once sprouted. This is what makes them a very convenient diet to carry and produce even as one travels.

b) I carry the following utensils, 1) 1 litre Plastic Container with a lid, for Soaking, 2) 1 Steel vessel for sprouting/eating, 3) 1 large sized cotton cloth, very thin, for sprouting the red lentils. 4) 2 Spoons, 5) Spices powders in a small plastic container

c) At any given point of time, I have Red Lentils being soaked, Being sprouted, being boiled for consumption. This cycle continues.

d) On the day that I have to travel, I already have got 1 kg ready sprouts, which I carry separately for consumption during my journey. This continues for 1-2 days.

e) When I reach my destination, I fill drinking water in the plastic container, and put 200 gms of Red Lentils for Soaking. By morning, I strain out the water and put them in a cloth for sprouting.

f) next day I repeat the process. If I get a cooking facility, I boil the sprouts, else I eat them raw with spices and salt.

This cycle continues.

I feel so comfortable. I am not dependent on road side eateries, or expensive airport / railway station/ bus station restaurants. I carry my own kitchen. And it weighs not more than 2-3 kgs at any given time.

----------------

My best wishes to you all :)) I appreciate your effort to remain healthy and safe.
