feral or stray

I’ve recently had a cat in my apartment complex start following me around. I’ve feed them a few times but got a warning from my apartment to stop. It does say in my lease (Nashville TN) to not feed strays or wild animals which I was unaware of. I haven’t fed them since and they still follow me.

I’ve never taken in a stray before so it’s all new to me. My boyfriend has experience with this back in vietnam, but this cat is very timid, mainly follows me, has an ear tip (TNR), and meows at us. I see a lot of mixed things when talking about strays vs feral cats and wonder if it’s best to just leave them be. I’ve already looked into the pinned highlights and would still just like some input. We left my apartment door open once to see if they would come in and they did. They looked around a bit from the entryway and then left. I guess I’d just like input from others on what they think we should do.

An orange cat with a grayish-teal eye. I actually used an app to define the eye color [OC] Bangkok, Thailand

Most pixels on his eyes are greyish teal with green only several points stronger than blue (look at the RGB numbers on the screenshot), but some - very few - are bluer. The edge of the eye on the right is orangish.

I was feeding random street cats, and one of them started literally hypnotizing me. He was staring at me with loving eyes without looking away, either admiring my generosity or asking me to adopt him. It was a surreal feeling... Looking at these pics now and feel guilty [OC] Bangkok, Thailand

From my Bangkok life... 2024.

Chocolate tabby, what an unusual coloration! That's actually the roof of a street market; photographed while I was standing even higher, on a pedestrian overpass [OC] Bangkok, Thailand

A rare brown tuxedo with a colorpoint face, though her paws and tail looked solid. She was trying to charm me with that look, while simultaneously monitoring everything around her with one ear, lol. Met her at a Buddhist temple in Bangkok, Thailand [OC]

Stumbled across this cutie at park in Bangkok, Thailand

I wanted to take him home. I love his colors and he was so sweet. He looks very hungry but also looks sick though. He has no hair on one of his ears. Does anyone know what causes this with cats?

This local street king has seen some things.

Met this absolute legend while walking today. He’s a local stray with the most majestic, weathered look I’ve ever seen. Despite his rough "rugged warlock" aesthetic and that messy fur, he has such a calm and commanding presence.
He didn’t want pets, just a moment of mutual respect before he went back to guarding his territory. Honestly, he looks like he has a side quest for me.
