Ali King explains why she has not been on much.
Inside soap nominations
I have no idea how these awards work, as I’m not from the UK, but as happy as I am for Vicky's nomination for Best Actress and, of course, for Swarla's nomination for Best Partnership, can someone explain why Ali isn’t considered? I know she’s won in the past, but her performance during the Becky storyline and Corriedale was mind-blowing.
I just wonder why she’s always forgotten. Hopefully, she can win Soap Superstar. I think she deserves something like that, given this is Carla’s 20 year anniversary. I would like to see her win this year. Also, I’m stuck between Sue and Vicky because that dementia storyline had me. 😭
When and how did you discover swarla? I’ll go first.
I saw a TikTok of the DGD kiss around last year, just as the Becky storyline was happening. I was so confused when I heard it was a soap that had been around for 60 years. I was so overwhelmed and didn't know where to start, but I just started with Swarla and then began watching Carla's scenes, which I'm still behind on. But yeah, TikTok introduced me to them. How about you?
Carla Needs A Decent Storyline
Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like they need to give Carla a decent solid storyline. I’m not counting Swarla because that was more relationship based. I’m talking about a good juicy storyline Ali can sink her teeth into as the main player and really lean into all the tools in her acting box.
I know we had the Rob thing last year, but considering it was her second transplant storyline, it was also sort of a recycled storyline just slightly different.
Over the last 4-5 years, it feels like they’ve shifted Carla into this mentor / supportive character role, which don’t get me wrong, I love seeing the softer side of Carla and it probably feeds into Ali’s shifting dynamic behind the scenes being a legacy character/actor.
But I miss the fiery side of her from years gone by and seeing Ali carry a storyline. She’s a force of nature as an actor but sometimes I feel like they’ve softened Carla too much that she lacks the fight she used to have.
I mean, seeing her get locked up by Becky…. Really? Carla Connor who grew up on a council estate and chewed up and spit out many man and survived more trauma than most being that easily overpowered by a weasely little wimp like Becky?? The one who was able to almost toss Tracy Barlow off the cliff she was going to jump from herself??
I dunno, rewatching old clips of Carla from the earlier years just made me miss how dynamic the character used to be. She was fun, feisty and fierce. But lately she feels a bit like a spayed puppy.
Or maybe I’m just feeling a little too nostalgic reliving the old days.
spoilers for week 5th Lisa and Betsy: a small mention no new pictures.
7. The investigation into Theo Silverton's murder rumbles on
Kit is left frustrated when he's removed from Theo's (James Cartwright) murder investigation, while Lisa Connor-Swain (Vicky Myers) and DS McLaughlin revisit Maria Connor's (Samia Longchambon) statement at the salon.
Maria sticks firmly to her original account that she spent the night with husband Gary Windass (Mikey North), but once they're gone she demands he finally tell her exactly what happened.
Later, Maria confides in Kit that their marriage is crumbling beneath the weight of his lies and secrecy, admitting she's reached the end of her tether.
Meanwhile, Lisa pays Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) visit and reveals the investigation has reached a dead end. He's noticeably indifferent response immediately raises her suspicions.
8. Betsy Swain and Dylan Wilson vow to spend more time together
Determined to make every remaining moment count before she leaves for London, Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin) turns up at Speed Daal and tells boyfriend Dylan Wilson (Liam McCheyne) she'll happily watch him work if it means they can spend more time together.
Calling it now! Betsy Spoiler
I knew they were gonna bring Becky Swain back from the dead and im just going to call this now....
I might be wrong but the new Betsy storyline is going to be about her looking for her donor isn't it?
She will meet them and decide to stay close to home and not go to uni in London after all so she can get to know them better
