Serious competition

Please read the full post or if that’s not possible then at least just the last section that summarises it. This is not a post to spread hate to any particular car or car community.

Coming from 2024 VW Taigun 1.0 AT High line.

Some background about me so I don’t get bashed in the comments. I’m a big fan of German cars since the very beginning. Our family also has a 2011 VW Polo 1.2 Mpi. Rock solid build and great highest stability are my highlights of it. I absolutely love the idea of these German cars on a highway, cruising through at a speed some in the segment won’t even dream of.

My coworker just bought this exact variant of the Kia Seltos (image) it’s some mid level, petrol CVT. 1.5 NA. I didn’t pay much attention because I obviously felt that the Taigun is much better to drive and the Aisin TC is so much better any other AT doesn’t come close. But we went for a short drive for about 4-5 km one way and I drove it back.

And what I saw and felt totally hit me like a train.

Because we are (I am) totally stuck inside the VAG world we have actually stopped paying attention to the competition and more importantly how good they have become.

Observations:-

  1. The size.

You get way more legroom, shoulder room and forget to even compare the boot. It’s next level.
4.46 mtrs is not a joke.

Also the boot has no loading lip. It was a flat bed with floor that could store more stuff underneath. A very pleasant boot indeed.

  1. Fit and finish

We have long praised VW for the solid interiors, sturdy inductor stocks, gear lever etc and I agree. When I used to compare the Polo with the cars like i10 it was very apparent.

But Kia has improved do damn much. The interior is spot on. It has a European feel to it. It is sturdy. Has very high quality knobs and buttons especially HVAC controls (just to rub our noses in) and that gear lever is pure luxury car territory.

The steering is soft and firm at the right places. In short it is very high quality to be in.

I’m not even talking about the screens as I’m not a big fan of that aspect of a car.

I think the difference in fit and finish is now negative because dare I say it, I feel it has surpassed VAG. It genuinely felt like a luxury car in the inside. Everything was soft touch, grey colour, high quality fit and finish.

  1. Drive

Here is where I feel there is still an edge to it and we have an advantage. With the 1.0 AT giving 170 nm torque it is a better to drive engine sure.

But with these crossovers, you’re anyways not going to go track days with it. And the Kia has an ultra smooth setup with the 1.5 L 4 pot, CVT that gives it a really seamless feel. These are cliche words but they are true!

Overall I felt that the drive can compare like 16:20 with the Taigun.

Another small observation, the horn. VW should have given a horn that is similar to this one. I mean they started the trend of trumpet horns and they only stopped it when everyone is giving these sweet sounding trumpet horns.

To conclude, I’ll say that the Kia Seltos has improved so damn much that at this point it is becoming very difficult to justify not going for it (if I was in the market looking for it) I mean it makes a very very strong case for it. We can’t simply ignore these factors especially when we will be travelling with our families who would greatly appreciate these factors i mentioned above.

I skipped the usual things like features, large panoramic sunroof etc because I’m not that into those things but yeah the Seltos is better in that too. And the official Global Ncap rating is not here but my suspect is it might be better than last variant at least also since the Verna has scored 5 stars need to be thinking positively for this one too.

TLDR;
Tired the Kia Seltos mid variant petrol cvt.
It seems to be good value for money. The value proposition and the factors that make it better to own for a family really seem like it can outweigh something like Taigun or Kushaw which are a more enthusiastic product.

Really hope VAG take notes and improve. Again, this is coming from a fan of VW Škoda.

Slavia Facelift Review

Hey all, here is a full list of changes and updates for the new Slavia facelift.

New additions:

  • Rear seat massagers
  • 8-speed TQ gearbox with 1.0 TSI
  • Euro spec 10.25" instrument cluster (without map integration)
  • AC updated to variable-geometry compressor
  • Solar shield UV cut glass
  • Rear sequential turn indicators
  • Rear disc brakes (with 1.5 TSI only)

  • Minor adjustments to front and rear bumpers
  • New 16" alloys
  • New interior upholstery
  • New exterior colours (ice blue, red and beige)

Although the list is long and Skoda has improved the value proposition of the vehicle, here are some items the car still misses out on:

Misses:

  • EPB (Electronic parking brake)
  • Physical AC controls
  • Underbody engine guard/cover
  • Auto high beam assist
  • Rear seat ventilation
  • Rear seat sun blinds
  • Active TPMS with PSI
  • ADAS
  • Driver memory seat function
  • Comprehensive ambient lighting
  • Auto one-touch up/down for all 4 windows
  • Sunglass holder
  • Driver/passenger side mirrors with light
  • Interior grab handles and glove box damping
  • Global VW/Skoda key
  • Updated interior plastics
  • Branded audio system

What does everyone think of the facelift?

My opinion is that the car is a better overall package when compared to before, but Skoda/VW still fail to show ambition in making the offering more premium. Many of the core issues have been rectified; however, many issues still remain.

Top model DRLs yellow

I need some advice. The DRLs on my taigun seem to look yellow these days is this normal or some flaw. I got like 2 months before the warranty is over.

Drove my Taigun GT DSG from Delhi to Bangalore. 2800kms. Here is my road-trip experience.

Moved to Bangalore in February. Instead of flying and shipping the car, I decided to drive.

10 days of the road-trip with the route:
Delhi → Udaipur → Daman → Mumbai → Goa → Udupi → Bangalore.

The car was a Taigun GT 1.5 DSG, picked it up second-hand in October 2025. It was a year old with 7.5k on it. Used to drive a Polo 1.2 before this.

About the road-trip - Delhi to Udaipur

With an emotional goodbye to my house and people, I left Delhi in the morning around 8:30am. The expressway from Gurgaon just opens up and doesn't stop. I crossed Jaipur and Alwar without even realising it and the road is so good and so consistent that I just stopped registering distance. The 10.5 hour drive as per maps finished in 10 hours with 3 short stops and honestly felt like 3-4 hours of driving.

What surprised me on this stretch were the roads of Rajasthan, especially the NH48 and NH758 leading into Udaipur, most of the vehicles and trucks had decent lane discipline (for Indian roads), making overtakes easy and clean.

The car on this road was just in its element. Smooth road, long straights with gentle curves is exactly what I wanted to drive on with my car. Honestly, the whole thing was no effort and no fatigue. The cockpit felt calm throughout the drive and with good music on, distances were disappearing so easily. This leg alone sold me on the car for long drives.

Udaipur to Daman

Made some Portuguese friends in Udaipur hostel, who had to head to Mumbai in a bus directly from Daman. I advised them otherwise and extended the offer to join me on the road-trip via Daman and they could get the chance to explore this small old, sleepy Portuguese colony.

Exiting Udaipur at 5am was peaceful and easy, even the people at the paid parking were sweet and car was safe with full luggage, even if it was priced on the higher side. We entered Gujrat and hit the horribly uneven big 8-lane cement expressway, really bad of the high speed limit of 120. The car was constantly working through the unevenness and it just never settled into that comfortable rhythm the Delhi-Udaipur stretch had. I still don’t understand these cement roads, the Yamuna expressway one is still bearable with smoother ride but this was a 4/10 experience.

The stretch of passing Ahmedabad was particularly bad with metro construction running right across the highway, and then the expressway just narrowed down to 2 lanes, which was very well paved but the 4-lane expressway was small and cramped. Also, driving discipline which I experienced in RJ disappeared here as I saw people overtaking at 120+ on the emergency shoulder on a 2-lane side like it was completely normal.

There were not many places to eat or stop (at least with the portuygege friends), but we still had the jugaad roadside coffee, cutting and eating mangoes and finishing all the snacks we carried.

Reached Daman by 4:30pm, freshened up and stepped out to see what was around. The town itself was completely unexpected. Slow, old, almost asleep. I was staying opposite a Portuguese fort and had zero plans beyond freshening up. Ended up spending the evening with the new friends exploring the fort, walking to a black sand beach, which they had genuinely never seen in their life and even explored a church and school where they got to converse with a few people in Portuguese. Had an absolute gem of a time exploring this little colonial town.

Daman to Mumbai:

The trip kicked off with exploring Daman in the morning and then we headed for the shorter leg of this road-trip to Mumbai. The car only had the fuel enough to hit Mumbai, I wanted to fill-up asap. I needed XP95 and stopping at at-least 8 pumps and I could not find it anywhere along the route. The 9th had it but had no electricity to pump.

The road itself is wide but those cement roads continued and the car was working overtime on its suspension the whole way along with the slow, truck filled and factory laded surroundings. Closer to mumbai we hit some curvy roads (still cemented and uneven), funny pointy mountains all around but at least the scenery changed for the better and it became a beautiful drive visually but not a comfortable one still.

We hadn’t eaten anything except a light breakfast and finally spotted a McDonald’s. Orlando & Raquel had a great time ordering, probably the best cultural exchange when you visit a new country, trying McDonalds, made them try the McSpicy Chicken and our legendary piri-piri fries, they got some extra piri-piri sachets to carry back home with them.

Finally reached Mumbai in a slow sluggish traffic but then easily dropped them at the metro with a booked ticket to town and had a sweet goodbye. I headed for a head massage and some chilling with friends.

Mumbai to Goa

Decided to start early-early morning at 5am and via South Bombay to experience some Mumbai driving and city, specifically the new coastal road, the marine drive and the to take the Atal Setu, even timed it to hit the bridge at sunrise.

That was the best single stretch of road on the entire trip. Wide, smooth, completely open without any traffic at all. Drove the car with complete freedom with the engine efficiently and strongly cruising along and responding to paddle shifts and accelerations. I was genuinely laughing and smiling. I really wish there was a way to actually see the sea from the bridge because I had timed the sunrise perfectly, but turned out it was covered on both sides. Once I crossed to the other side, I was instantly hit by dust, trucks and bad industrial roads, I think it was Panvel. The reality came back very fast there.

From there to Goa was the worst road experience of the whole trip. Long sections just completely dug up for expressway construction, the whole route was patchy and rough with smooth sections of completed bridges which lasted only 2-3km max and then back again to dusty construction side-roads. The suspension and I were both unhappy. I’m sure the car is not tuned for this kind of road and honestly, it didn’t pretend to be either. I felt every bad patch well.

Eventually hit the nicer roads, still under-construction but a little hilly and ghats around and FINALLY the reward was there, Goa. Quickly opened the sunroof open, rolled the windows down, slowed down the car and probably the first time on the whole trip I just breathed a breath of fresh air. Honestly, uptill Mumbai-Goa, felt like this blanket of pollution wouldn’t leave me. Imagine it extending from Delhi-Gurgaon uphill Daman, constantly hazy.

Goa to South Goa

The most memorable drive, a very short leg, driven with my best friend who met me in Goa. This was the best part of the trip, this was pure driving joy. Beautifully curvy ghat roads with many blind curves, full tree cover on both sides, very less traffic and no one else around. I think the car was open to its full potential here. I didn’t feel any gearshifts, they so smooth during all the deceleration and acceleration on the ghats. The steering finally got to show itself off too on the curves, I could steer this car with basically one finger. There was no body roll on curves, even turning them at a bit of speed. The car just stuck to the road through every curve and I never felt even slightly out of control. Taigun responded to each and every tiny input immaculately. Also, credit where it’s due, very very well paved roads with no-potholes, well marked divider with solid and dotted lines given at the right places.

Honestly, after Delhi, I had forgotten what it felt like to have un-hazy clean view and to have greenery around. This leg reminded me.

South Goa to Udupi

This drive was mostly 4 lane highway but well paved for almost the entire stretch. Curving ghats and highway roads, beautiful scenery, the car handling everything  cleanly. By this point I had full trust in how the car moves and that trust made the drive genuinely relaxing even on the twisty bits.

This is also when I finally made peace with the seats, they aren't dramatically bolstered or sporty looking but they hold you in place on every curve and after 2000+ kms they had not given me a single ache, and I drive with a lower back-injury. This whole route was selected to do this coastal road it was worth taking the scenic route, as it always is. The whole drive was filled with bridges off which you could see rivers and backwaters on one side which had deep deep greenery on both sides of the river and other side, you could see the river become wider and wider and meet into the sea. One little stretch puts you right next to the sea and that is a drive I did 3 times, u-turning repeatedly. Reaching Udupi was easy, relaxed and rewarded with an epic dinner dosa meal, something I had been looking forward for a while on this road-trip to move to the great south.

Udupi to Bangalore

Left early from my overnight Udupi stay, checked out the Udupi beach, one of the cleanest beaches, the water was pristine blue and families and kids and couples were peacefully enjoying the city beach. Went for a great breakfast, suggested by the good folks on reddit and then hit the road for the final stretch. By this point I felt like I knew every corner of this car.

The Sakaleshpura stretch caught me completely off guard with its lush green forest, beautiful hill roads, tree canopies covering the road completely, it was all breathtakingly stunning, an absolute pleasure to drive here. But, this is also where the DSG showed its one honest limitation, on the hill climbs it seemed slightly confused, held first gear a touch too long, then shifted a beat late once it found momentum. The car also doesn’t have a hill descent control so the car rolls down the hills with a confused RPM. Not scary or anything but just not fully sorted for hills specifically. Don't get me wrong, it can still probably still take any hill or a mountain but may not be as smooth. (Saying this after experiencing driving a Honda Elevate for a 14-day Spiti trip from Delhi once which handled hills very well)

After the beautiful hills ended, hit the nice and fast highway where cars were being driven well, the road was smooth but had construction happening in some parts. Didn’t mind that too much though. Even saw a Padmini cruising with windows rolled down. Living in Delhi, you never end up seeing these classic beauties and I am counting old Honda Citys and Mitsubishis. Finally hit the NICE road on the outskirts of Bangalore, which I was confused by the naming of but finally in Bangalore. Finally reached my destination Kengeri, parked the car and felt like this is the first time I stopped in 10 days.

2823kms done at 14.2 km/L across the whole trip on XP95. Drove for the joy of it, not for mileage with a lot of accelerations, hitting limits, working the car through curves. The mileage held up fine given how I drove. I didn't feel tired, not even a little bit and all credit to the Taigun. I used to think that driving 4-6 hours was a lot. Now with this car, 10-12 hours feel like nothing. Happy to answer any questions about the trip or the car.

The best trip I have ever taken, yet. With many more to come. Captured this from the POV of the car and roads and some anecdotes of people I met. Hope you all enjoy it.

Happy to answer anything.

Accidentally filled my 2025 Virtus with regular E20 instead of XP95 — any issue?

EDIT - My concern is not about ethanol blending. I have made peace with it. I was curious and wanted to understand if the included additives in 95 fuel were important enough that I should be expecting problems without it since I have filled regular petrol.

I usually fill my 2025 Volkswagen Virtus 1.5 TSI with XP95, but today the fuel station accidentally filled the tank with regular petrol.

As I understand it, regular petrol is also E20, but likely has a lower RON than XP95. I know VW recommends 95 RON, so I’m wondering:

  1. Can one full tank of regular petrol damage the engine?
  2. Will the ECU compensate for the lower octane?
  3. Does the difference in additives between regular petrol and XP95 matter for one tank?
  4. Should I just drive normally and switch back to XP95 on the next refill or should I visit the service center tomorrow?

I know the question is asked multiple times but have not seen a clear answer anywhere. Some say they immediately faced an issue some say it doesn't matter

Would appreciate advice from other Virtus/TSI owners.

Two major issues I'm facing please advice.

Hello everyone,

My family bought a yearback 1.5 manual taigun and it's been a wonderful experience driving the machine.

  1. The wipers seems to get caught on the windscreen while in use. Sc told me it's normal and showed other cars having the same issue stating it was normal. Don't know why showing other cars with the same issue makes it normal. We had a honda previously and this was not the case there. The wipers were smooth throughout its wiping action. Attached slow mo video for ref.

  2. The ac seems to be having a soul on its own sometimes. Randomly the ac stops blowing from any vents. When we put the fan speed to maximum I can hear the blower pushing wind out but nothing comes to the cabin. After some time it comes back through the vents. Please note that it's not an issue with modes or anything. Sc says they cannot do anything since they don't find anything abnormal. Have taken a video when I experienced it again, will update after next visit to sc.

Pls share your experience or advice regarding this.

Revopoint Trackit SR

VW Touran scanned using the Trackit SR outdoors in sunny weather

WIFI mode was used.

The car has hail damage on the bonnet

The scanner produces very good results outdoors.

I'm very happy with it.

The Wi-Fi mod is a huge improvement on its predecessor.

No more annoying cables getting in the way

Scanner : Trackit SR (Wifi)

Software : RevoTrack (latest)

Quality: 0.5 mm

Scannspray: ATTBLIME (headlights)

VW Indore - bad experience

My taigun is almost 5 years old now.

Here's my overall experience with vw indore. Which is just bad.

On every service they try to add unnecessary items like ac disinfectant, 3m polishing, etc. Which i got removed everytime.

Everytime, there is a strange system charge in the invoice of around 3000rs. Which if you argue, they'll address. There is no fix charges for anything. The invoice is never structured properly...

There have been complaints of engine oil not changed but added in the invoice.

The workshop's workmanship is disaster. U can see the image. There is misalignment in every job that they do. They never use any tools for trims - a screwdriver to open any part is all they use. They don't know how to open parts/trims..

I got the seat covers installed, and since then for 4 years - the rear seat belts are not working. The seat cover itself looks off. Additionally, they broke the plastic trims locks.. so the trim is out of place and loose. Its such an eye sore. All they do is temporary fixes..

I live in a nearby city from indore. So revisiting again is a challenge for me.

Once, i gave them vehicle for some painting. The paint job was pathetic and i had to visit atleast 3 times for this, everytime they didn't improve anything. This wasted a month. And, The guy kept lying the bonnet is painted while clearly it wasn't painted at all. After they finally painted the bonnet, it couldn't handle bird dropping and it penetrated the paint and became engraved. So that how their job js.

Their washing guys have been genuinely good.

Vehicles are mishandled too. In my last visit, guys chipped a month old virtus' paint. The owner was very frustrated. And then they did the spot paint to fix it.

They applied some oil/grease to the sun shades on my taigun. Which is clearly visible.

There's a Pune guy on linkedin who posted abt his experience with vw indore as well. How he had to deal with these clowns..

Most importantly, workshop people steal things from vehicles that have been resting for few days there for some repair. Like they stole the rear side speaker and fitted it in different vehicle. I couldn't realize it bcz i only drive the car.

And workers ask for under the table money everytime..

Once they changed my cars plenum cover near the windshield due to squirrel bite. Then bcz of this, the rain water started leaking on the turbo charger. Turbo became jammed bcz of this..

I got the puddle lamp installed few years ago, the lamp was glowing during the day.. Had to visit multiple times just to fix this issue. Each time 3-4 guys trying something for 4-5 hours.. they have no idea how to fix... Even today, it glows with door closed.

I have made peace with many things bcz i can't waste my energy again n again on these things.

If Volkswagen India HO is reading this. Please give them some training or alteast do regular checks at ASC.

So any new car buyer, please check your car properly and take pictures before handing it over to them. Tell them you'll write an email to VW if things are not fixed. And always check service cost calculator to avoid being overcharged.

Average🫩🥀

How much mileage does your Taigun give? Mine gives around 5–7 km/l in the city and 13–14 km/l on the highway. How can I improve the mileage in the city? 5–7 km/l feels like I’m driving a Urus without the luxury 😭 I mean, it sucks, bro. Fr. And mine is automatic, btw.

Taigun vs Virtus

Hey everyone I am planning to buy new Volkswagen but is confused between virtus and taigun as I am in love with the virtus design but Indian road condition and some what social media have convinced me that taking SUV is better choice.

2021 Taigun GT DRL replacement

Right DRL is almost dead and the left DRL has yellowed. ASC denying warranty (because right DRL is not fully dead) and quoting 30000 per headlight assembly (for right side only). Is there a way to fix the DRL strip without spending on full headlight assembly? Any aftermarket suggestions for lower cost? TIA

1.5L TSI mileage test.

I was going for work at my village and wanted to check how much mileage I could get.

So I set everything to zero and started cruising at 60km/h as all these are village roads with more interruptions on the road.

I’m pretty sure I could pull even better numbers on a proper highway with a steady 80–100 km/h cruise and fewer interruptions.

TSI engines ❤️.
