Has anyone had luck price matching an online competitor at Academy?

I see people on here saying they've done a price match at Academy with an online price.

But their policy says only these stores:

  • Amazon
  • Bass Pro Shops
  • Cabela's
  • Carter's Country
  • Champs Sporting Goods
  • Dicks Sporting Goods
  • Dunham's Sports
  • Eastbay
  • Fanatics
  • Hibbett Sports
  • Kansas Sampler
  • Rally House
  • REI
  • Scheels All Sports
  • Sportsman's Warehouse
  • Target
  • Walmart

Are you guys getting around that somehow?

SATX Gunsmith/ Machine Shop

Looking to convert my S&W 39-2 in a Hushpuppy MK 22 Mod 0 clone. I need the slide milled out to accept the rear sight hood and suppressor height front sight added. I have more pictures for reference. Is this a job for a gunsmith or machine shop?

What stores in DFW have the best prices?

I've been seeing the S&W Bodyguard 2.0 on sale online around $340 at several stores but once you add $30 for shipping and $20 for FFL, it's getting close to buying for $400 locally.

Does anyone know of stores that have great prices (besides GrabAGun)?

How to start?

Hi, 18F from south Texas here! What would be the the cheapest gun and what’s the process in getting one? I’ve been interested in them for a while but I know nothing and I’m hoping someone can walk me through the process. I’ve heard academy is good but I’m not sure- and I also know there’s limits on what I can buy. Thank you!!! any help is appreciated

Texas LTC instructor here — happy to answer questions about LTC vs. permitless carry

Hey y’all,
I’m César, and I run MyLTCTexas.com. I’ve noticed there’s still quite a bit of confusion about whether getting a Texas License to Carry is worth it now that Texas has permitless carry.
I’m not here to tell everybody they need an LTC, but there are still some legitimate benefits to having one, and I’m happy to answer questions about the process, eligibility, the online classroom portion, shooting qualification, signs, reciprocity, or LTC vs. permitless carry.
I also run an online Texas LTC course through MyLTCTexas.com for anyone who is looking to take the classroom portion online.
I’m a veteran and built the site specifically around making the Texas LTC process straightforward, including options in English and Spanish.
If anybody has Texas LTC questions, drop them below and I’ll answer what I can.

A couple questions about my right after misdemeanour

So I ran some trouble excepted a deferred felony for five years. Before accepting the plea I was fairly confident I was not going to have to plead. I thought it was gonna be dropped well because there’s plenty of evidence that I didn’t do what they said I did which was distributing a dangerous drug that being THC though it was not it was just CBD derived from hemp that’s a whole Nother story.
When they arrested me, I had my handgun holstered in my backpack in the back of my vehicle. By the way I had no prior history and everything was legal. I had nothing illegal on me.
So they took them a gun and then over the next two or three years while I was dealing with all this they never mentioned that firearm not once and I thought they just stole it because they stole other things and I was just certain that they just took it because it was brand-new. I hadn’t even shot it yet. And just for any of you firearm enthusiasts it was a Glock 19. So after years of dealing with all this I ended up doing a plea deal for five years deferred felony and two days after I signed that plea deal. I got a call from my bondsman saying that I had caught the next day and I was very confused, cause we took care of everything. It was a big deal and it was done as far as I was concerned that’s when she said no it’s for the possession of a firearm well in commission of a drug crime so they waited basically they couldn’t charge me with that until I plead and as soon as I pleaded guilty which I was not.
Then they went ahead and charged, so that was a misdemeanour unlawful possession well in commission of a drug crime. I went to court paid $700 fine and that was all there was to it. There wasn’t even any kind of added charger or anything. I just kind of went away. My lawyer tried to see if they had released the gun to him, but they said it had to be destroyed. Yeah, I’m sure.

Anyway it’s been years now. I pleaded guilty in 2018 and well I think if you’re reading this you probably know what year it is right now so I completed the probation with Flying Colours and as far as I am concerned I have no felony I’ve never been convicted and I believe that I can purchase and own a firearm in the state of Texas although I don’t wanna break the law by applying and filling out the paperwork to purchase firearm in Texas and I also want to make sure that that misdemeanour doesn’t affect my gun rights at this point. I was gonna go do an FBI background check and get fingerprinted for that to get my passport and because I want to try to get my CDL again. I don’t know if that will help. Am I gonna have to hire a gun rights attorney just to get to the bottom of this. I want to have my concealed carry permit and I want to be able to purchase an own firearms legally. And all I have on my criminal record is this misdemeanour unlawful carry. I appreciate anybody kicking down some knowledge about my situation. I think that I’m in the clear and then I don’t have much to worry about. I just definitely wanna make sure. And I know it’s kind of not on the same subject but for whoever is reading this I was wondering about the silencer shorted shotgun laws that just changed or that are changing. Do you have to do the same kind of background check just to buy a silencer as you do when you’re buying a handgun or can you just go buy a silencer whoever you are? Alright, thank you all have a good night and be safe. But stay dangerous at the same time.

Anyone find dealers selling suppressors on 4473?

Everyone I call says no. Silencer shop has started adding Form 4 notes to their dealers list but it doesn’t cover everywhere?

New NFA ruling

Because I’m just a simpleton who doesn’t understand lawyer, but from what I can tell for you not to have to file NFA style paperwork:

SBRs: the rifle has to be bought from PSA and you have to be a part of GOA.

Suppressors: have to be bought from PSA silencer shop, or you have to be a part of GOA.

Am I just wrong, or no?

God bless Texas: fully stocked ammo section at even urban Walmart

Plenty of every variety of cci I could want and cartons of automatch for $19.95. Never have to order (haven’t ever, always deep in .22 but it was all home in Okc. ) good to be in true free state with retailers that stock likewise. Allen, Texas.

New in TX Carry Compass: §46.03 and federal place restrictions are now visible

Yesterday, a user (thank you u/tbrand009) pointed out an important gap: a hospital could have no 30.xx signs but still identify itself as a §46.03 establishment—and a federal building could appear completely green even though a federal restriction applies.

That feedback led to a much larger update.

TX Carry Compass can now display community-reported place restrictions separately from 30.05, 30.06, 30.07, and 51% signage:

  • Texas Penal Code §46.03
  • Federal facilities
  • USPS property
  • Military installations
  • Other site-specific federal restrictions

You’ll see these reports on map markers, search results, place details, carry explanations, and iOS proximity alerts. There are also new §46.03 and Federal search filters.

A few important details:

  • Applicable restrictions take priority over reassuring sign-only results.
  • Reports include an evidence note and go through moderation.
  • Military and other federal reports are presented as site-specific—not universal rules.
  • A “Government / Military Building” category does not automatically mean weapons are prohibited.
  • Explicit USPS reports take priority over the existing name-based USPS warning, including corrections to false matches.
  • “Not reported” or “does not apply” is never presented as confirmation that carrying is lawful.

The contribution workflow is now called Signs & Restrictions, and you can submit these classifications when adding or updating a location. On-site photos are encouraged, but not required.

This feature came directly from community feedback, so please keep it coming. If you find a location with a §46.03 notice, federal restriction, or site-specific policy, submit what you observed—including the exact building, entrance, grounds, or posted authority when possible.

As always, these are community reports, not legal advice. Verify current law, notices, exceptions, property boundaries, and site policies before carrying.

These new changes are being reviewed by both Google and Apple. Make sure to check for updates tomorrow.

Any Texas Licensed Instructors in NY?

I’d like to obtain my Texas nonresident CCW. I can complete the classroom portion online, but I still need to qualify at the range with a Texas-licensed instructor. If you know of a Texas instructor who is based in New York, or one who plans to travel to New York and can conduct the qualification here, please let me know. I’m hoping to avoid traveling to Texas for the permit and would prefer to already have it before I visit.
Thanks!

I made a search engine based on zip code across all the gun glassifieds in Texas so it's easier to find deals locally. Looking for feedback.

Please delete if not allowed. You guys may remember my mega post last week of all the FFLs under/around $20. This week, I have another share.

Don't know if useful to anyone but I made it for myself so I can search just listings within a 1 hour drive of me. Searching a bunch of sites every day and manually tapping into each was kind of getting old. If you tap the listing, you go directly to the source (GunBroker, TGT, etc). It's just a free search engine, nothing ground-breaking. Also noticed TGT search was broken, like "SIG P320" would skip "SIG Sauer P320" and felt like a 1990s searching experience. Now the data is properly indexed so I can find what I'm looking for.

Travis Warren is the 4th best mile shooter in the world. He shows us how to operate the rifle we bought from him. It's a long video lesson but lots of great tips!
