Adéla's marketing

To preface this, I'm NOT hating on Adéla. I have loved her since the release of Superscar and have pre-ordered Prima. I genuinely believe that she is very talented, hardworking, and unique. I want her to succeed. I am also aware that the majority of artists in such an industry have some form of privilige and that Adéla is not a nepo baby.

However, in Adéla's case a lot of her marketing appeal and themes in her music stem from breaking into the industry despite being the underdog and an immigrant from a small country (as potrayed in KGB). Adéla herself said that "people like her don't get represented."

Another song, Ain't in LA, is inspired by her mother who grew up without the financial freedom Adéla had. But a casual listener would get the impression that it's about Adéla herself because of the lyrics.

So while it's true that Eastern Europe has little mainstream representation Adéla herself also doesn't represent the average Slovak because of her family's financial background.

Adéla learned English by herself at a young age when watching American TV, but she also had extentive schooling in English (as she attended the Bratislava International Highschool).

She was trained globally all her life since she had ballet training for years in Moscow, Vienna and London. She also received vocal training from Olivia Rodrigo's coach while still living in Slovakia.

Even though Adéla comes from an unrepresented country, the resources she has allowed her to drop out of college, relocate to LA permanently, and self-fund her music (even with low-budget music videos). In some ways, she actually started with more privilege and industry access than a girl from an ordinary family living right in the US.

I know Adéla never claimed to be poor, but I feel like there is a contradiction between the way she is marketed and the reality.

Edit: I come from Europe and not the US. Although my country is highly developed our media industry is small, has little opportunities and global representation so I definitely understand that feeling. I also don't want to discredit the struggles Slavik people face in the media. Now I also realize that Adéla was very lucky with her timing because Deeam Académy gave her public exposure. Without that it would have been much harder to break into the industry as her family doesn't have the industry connections.

Naisha is valid

I know this post is going to get downvoted into oblivion, but Naisha is valid in her clapback at the trolls who are still bullying her over a comment she made three years ago, which she has since apologised for. They’re also accusing her of being obsessed with Manon and stealing her style over things like wearing waist beads.
After years of abuse and weeks of people accusing her of copying Manon with the waist beads, she finally responds, and now the comments are filled with abuse and death threats telling her to delete the post and stop mentioning Manon when they’re the ones who brought Manon up in the first place. They’re also conveniently ignoring the substance of her tweet that she’s been wearing waist beads since she was 11, and thin, straight eyebrows have been a trend long before Manon.

Connection Between Producer Lexie and Songwriter Rinka

From the start in Dream Academy, Lexie introduced herself as a producer and she talked many times how she loves making music. That's why I've been hoping for Saint Satine/Prelude to get involved in their artistry, especially since Lexie is a producer and Emily is a choreographer. Lexie was indeed mentioned as a producer in the official articles when Prelude was first announced last year and she posted being at the studio with other producers before their group was made. Also, songwriting and producing were included in the category of skills that HxG looked for in the Japanese audition which is unique and rare for kpop survival shows.

When World Scout started, the trainee that caught my attention was Rinka because she mentioned in her profile that she specializes in songwriting/composing and she's studying multiple languages. She mentioned it again in her interview that she's very good at writing and composing songs, and how she will make use of that in the competition. The question was what is their "determination for the audition", the other trainees answered similarly about doing their best, but Rinka was the only trainee who answered it differently that's specific about songwriting. It looks like she auditioned as a songwriter, as if she believed that it was gonna have an integral part of joining the global group instead of the typical kpop group. In Round 1, they didn't show Rinka's singing or dancing, but they only showed her rapping and Son's comment about her was that she's the trainee with "a lot of musical talent", which was also different compared to their comments on the other trainees' performances that's usually just about singing/dancing/star quality. Another interesting fact is, in the initial Japanese casting call for Prelude, the age range was only 15-20 years old, but when the World Scout audition was announced, HxG increased it to 15-24 years old. Rinka was the only trainee who wasn't in the age range before that made it (she was 21 and turned 22 in November before she came to LA). It seems like HxG changed the age limit for Rinka who was also the closest to Lexie's age. Lexie is 2004 while Rinka is 2003 and other kpop companies hasn't been taking 2003-2004 trainees in the recent years since they're already considered old, but I think Rinka was an exemption because she has the songwriting skills. Although, HxG didn't show anything about songwriting and it didn't had a part in World Scout (When the Prelude members introduced their 2 songs that they said they worked on, people thought that they took part in the music production, but it turned out they didn't. Also, when Rinka was brought back in LA she talked again about songwriting, but it was an unreleased footage that wasn't included in the show.)

People thinks that Lexie left the group because HxG changed their concept. Adding an inexperienced minor to their group was obviously a factor that changed their dynamics, aside from the cultural gap and language barrier, there was a bigger disconnect with Lexie who was the oldest member. But the "presented vision" and "future plans" that Lexie mentioned in her letter could also mean "artistic vision" and "creative process". When Prelude was announced, Lexie joining in as the last member was unexpected since she left Dream Academy before and one of the reasons was because she wanted to be a producer. I've always thought that Lexie decided to return to HxG again because they likely made a condition that she can get involved in the music production of their group, but unfortunately, the plans for Saint Satine was changed and the direction they're going in for became different. Lexie was probably led to believed by HxG that she could become a producer, but they switched up on her and she lost her chance to do that in the group. I think this is one of the reasons why Lexie left but people don't really talk about it.

Overall, connecting all these pieces, it could have been better. There's so much missed opportunities and it just turned to waste. HxG is not smart at all and they don't care about artistry. What makes it even more sad is how Lexie joined HxG among the original trainees since 2021, but now she's gone again because they broke her trust. It looks like Saint Satine is turning more like idols who caters to younger kpop fans, but hopefully Lexie will find her right path where she can express her passion as a creative artist.

Auditioning for new group

Hey guys I just had a quick question, there’s a new girl group HYBE and GEFFEN are making and I just wanted to try out for an experience. I don’t have professional background with dancing or singing but as for dancing, do i have to make my own choreo or can i just do a dance cover of a k pop dance? Thanks and good luck to anyone trying out!

Some interesting “stats” I noticed!

- Out of all the girls who made it into KATSEYE, Megan is the only one who wasn’t given immunity
- And out of all the finalists Emily, Marquise, and Megan were the only one not too make top six (Emily was the closest at 7th in mission three!)
-Lara, sophia and were the finale contestants with the longest top six rank for all three missions. Daniela, Samara, Yoonchae all had two. While Ezerla, and Manon were in the top six once!
- also Emily is the only one who’s rank increased consistently throughout each mission, going 14th-13th-7th. Everyone else either stayed the same or went down!
- generally speaking the girls who were stronger in vocals did better in rank than dance girlies. This was really true in the first mission, with 5/6, the second had 4/6, and the third had 4/6 as well.
- the most successful mission was confident (100 mission pass rate and finale rate!)
- anti fragile team a and b, and confident teams have all debuted (if you count Lexie having songs on streaming due to world scout add happier than ever and fearless team a as well!!)
- Lara and Sophia had received immunity each mission!

What stats did you notice?

Manon's unfair treatment

So, you're saying that you can't help Hinari with her dancing, Ua with her vocals, Yoonchae with her stability, or Daniela with her expressions, but you can train Manon from literal scratch? Like, Manon's spot was definitely secured from the moment she entered the competition.

KATSEYE X SAINT SATINE theory

heyy! so basically Katseye just released they're teaser for their new mini album WILD. And the 3rd track, HOOTIE FRUTTI, features lines in Portuguese. I think that Saint Satine/only Samara will be featured on this track because none of the Katseye members speak Portuguese. Keep in mind that the 2 groups come from the same agency, HxG. Also the lyrics talk abt matcha at some point which StS has been talking about lot abt (matcha vlogs etc). anyway. i think its true although i hope not because the song doesn't fit AT ALL StS's DNA.

Slavic & Eastern European baddies. What do we think about "KGB" by Adela?

As someone who grew up in a post-communist country, I was honestly shocked when the KGB came out.
In my personal opinion, the song feels really disrespectful to this part of history because she makes it all about herself, as if she went through so much, when she didn’t. Adela didn’t live through that time or experience any of it firsthand, so it’s hard for me to understand how she can take something so scary and traumatic, when people were being killed, tortured, and traumatized, and turn it into something to dance to.
What also bothers me is that Adela makes it sound like she’s the one who went through all of that, even referring to herself as if she were some kind of KGB spy. To me, that feels really upsetting and disrespectful. This is a painful part of history that shouldn’t be romanticized or turned into something fun or entertaining. Your opinion?
