Hi! I’m an international incoming TU Delft Master’s student and I recently secured a place in The Hague with two other girls. Since Delft housing is honestly brutal right now, we ended up going for a fully furnished apartment in Den Haag instead.

The setup is:
• ~6 mins bike to Den Haag HS
• ~10–15 mins train to Delft
• Fully furnished apartment
• Internet included
• Washing machine included
• Cleaning service once every 2 months
• Shared apartment with other TU Delft students

The rooms are around €720–740/month rent + ~€100 utilities, so overall roughly ~€820–840/month including utilities/internet.

I’ve done all the budgeting, commute calculations, etc., and realistically the setup seems manageable, but I wanted some honest opinions from people already studying/living in NL:

Is living in The Hague and commuting to TU Delft actually sustainable long-term? Does it start feeling exhausting over time or does it become normal pretty quickly? Also realistically, how much does it affect student/social life?

Would especially love input from people currently commuting from The Hague/Rotterdam to Delft! Moreover, the commute expense if using Tram or Train.

Does anyone else have this experience? I just returned home from a two-week holiday and saw a letter from Stedin informing me that my energy contract had ended, and my energy would be cut off in 14 days. Stedin explained that someone had started a contract in April or May under my address and terminated it, leaving me without a contract after that. I did received letter from an energy company with unknown name but I never opened it. Because that’s not my letter and could be a scam.

Now I feel the process is way too flaky, how possible someone can transfer others energy contact without any evidence of residence or agreement with previous contract owner in the address? Am I missing something here?

I guess the coast will be pretty busy. Anyone got a tip for somewhere nice near The Hague?

I have a question to the Community. I am a Cineville subscriber and I go to the Filmhuis allmost every second day. I noticed that there is an older guy sitting at the cafe with a book - almost always there. He is like there always, sitting near the toilet under the stairs.

Who do you think he is? A "Papier-Mâché" Human? or a NPC??

If he is the runner of the Filmhuis, I would kindly request him stop people from eating cakes (that cutlery hitting the plate noise) during the screenings like L'etranger or chips as Jessica Buckley was gagging during the Hamnet. What is the cafe for anyways??

Hey! I have travelled a lot in the world but I’m struggling to understand what is wrong with bus drivers in The Hague? Every ride seems like a roller coaster ride with frequent hard breaks and F1 accelerations hahah. Am I the only thinking this?

Hoi allemaal. Ik werk sinds een paar maanden in Den Haag en heb een bruto jaarsalaris van circa 60.000 euro. Over een paar maanden moet ik verplicht mijn huidige woning verlaten. Ik ben nu al twee maanden aan het zoeken naar een appartement met 1 slaapkamer, maar heb zeer weinig succes gehad. Ik verdien bovenmodaal voor 1 persoon, heb alle documenten beschikbaar, en reageer bijna altijd binnen enkele minuten dat er een nieuwe advertentie online komt. Ik heb een baan met veel werkdruk en kan lange dagen maken, dus het liefst wil ik iets centraals hebben en een locatie waarbij ik als vrouw nog veilig in de avond alleen naartoe kan fietsen. Ik merk dat dit mij heel erg bezighoudt en stress oplevert, en ik weet ook gewoon niet hoe het nog gaat lukken met werk als ik niet op tijd een woning heb… Ik snap dat we een wooncrisis hebben, maar hoe kan het nou dat je niks kunt vinden met een goedbetaalde baan? Ik heb ook niet het geluk om samen met een partner iets te kunnen zoeken.

Doe ik iets verkeerds? Hebben anderen tips om het beter aan te pakken? Al het advies wordt zeer gewaardeerd…

I couldn't find a clear answer online, maybe because of lack of understanding dutch, but if I use a parking spot with a charger and let's say my battery is full at 22:00, do I need to move my car or is it ok to stay on that spot until the next morning when I leave for work? I have a parking permit for street parking.

Does anyone know a bar/caffe in the Hague that looks like has seen better times, not many people
go in anymore and would just need a bit more love?

Weet iemand waar je redelijk in de buurt bureaustoelen met een normering kunt uitproberen? Als ik inclusief lokatie zoek, dan heb ik gemerkt dat er bedrijven zijn die in de URL woorden als "kantoorstoelen-den-haag" gebruiken, en dan blijkt de showroom ver weg te zijn.

For drinks, a walk or anything else really (I'm not picky). I grew up both here and abroad, but most of my old friends from The Hague have left in recent years. I study in Amsterdam so I don't have many opportunities to meet new people who live here.

For a quick context: I live with my partner on a ground floor of a classic 1930s 3-story building in the city.

Our upstairs neighbours are a family with young kids so there is a lot of running, which despite being absolutely normal and acceptable, is also incredibly noisy. It's impact noise, which I can hear as loud as if someone was walking/running inside my house.

We have met the neighbours, they were very nice, and even made adjustments to reduce a loud noise that was happening almost every morning right above our bed which was startling us and waking us up (it was a workout machine).

What I wonder is, is it normal to hear their noise so loudly? Is this lack of insulation and if so, is this something that is okay for us to bring up to the VVE later on? (I don't want to be the annoying neighbour who moves in and starts complaining) I can make adjustments like wearing headphones and such, but it does seem like an abnormal loudness coming from just footsteps, a vacuum cleaner or someone running. Then again, I've never been a downstairs neighbour.

I want to buy spices (pepper, salt, chilli flakes, sea food seasoning etc) in bulk, because supermarkets are suoer expensive. What is a good place I can buy quality spices like that?

We're putting together a figure drawing evening at Art Hub Leiden and thought some of you might be into it.

Two models will be posing while people sketch, draw or paint — whatever you feel like. Absolutely no experience needed, we really mean that. It's a small group (max ~20 people) so it's pretty low-key and not intimidating at all.

After the drawing part we're doing drinks and some music too, so it's a chill way to spend a Wednesday evening either way.

It's €13 which covers the venue, materials and drinks. We'll provide everything you need material-wise, but bring your own stuff if you have preferences.

hi all! i was wondering if i’m the only one feeling so out of place here… when i lived in other countries and cities, life just felt easier and socializing also went smoothly. i don’t know what’s going on here, but i feel like from the second i got here, it was so hard to get along with my classmates, dating is ridiculously hard, the weather is much worse than i expected and everything is hella expensive which makes me want to never go out. everyday i spend here feels like a waste of my life and things never go how i want. i will be done with my studies in about a year, but somehow this little time left seems unbearable.

Hello, how is it going? I will be starting a bachelor September (17F) and I have been looking for a room/studio through different websites and facebook groups with no luck so far.

When I thought I found something, I got "scammed" (got a studio with holland2stay and after managing the booking, they cancelled on me 2 weeks later. They haven't told me the reason nor refund me my money for the booking)

Can anyone recommend me a website, an agency, a real estate agent, facebook group or anything on which I can look for a place to stay? I am quite worried about falling for scams or not finding housing this summer...

Ik ben al een tijd aan het overwegen om te verhuizen naar Den Haag. In mijn optiek een super stad die echt alles te bieden heeft (lekker eten, groen, strand, cultuur).

Ik ben er natuurlijk al wel meerdere keren geweest, maar dan blijf je toch snel rondom het centrum en Scheveningen. En omdat ik er niet woon, blijft het lastig inschatten hoe wonen daar nou echt zou zijn..

Nu vroeg ik me af wat de beste wijken zijn om in te wonen die nog betaalbaar zijn. Als ik google kom ik uit op de posh wijken, maar deze liggen buiten mijn budget. Dus mijn vraag naar jullie Hagenezen: wat zijn de leukste wijken om in te wonen? Voor context: ik ben 31V en alleen (starter).

Wat ik bijvoorbeeld ook veel op het internet zie is dat een wijk zoals Mariahoeve wordt afgeraden omdat er niets te doen. Ik raak dan een beetje verward, omdat ik juist een hele groene en ruime wijk zie met betaalbare woningen. Mijn gedachten zien het makkelijk naar de snelweg kunnen, altijd parkeerplek, zo op de fiets of tram naar centrum juist als voordelen. Of ben ik nu echt veels te naïef?

Kunnen jullie mij uitleggen wat de impact heeft van de wijk waarin je woont? En wat een top plek zou zijn?

Wat ik probeer mee te nemen in het zoeken van een woning is:

- Winkels in de buurt (liefst ook toko en lekkere eethuisjes)

- Fatsoenelijk auto kwijt kunnen

- Een park in de buurt zou ik heel erg waarderen

- Uiteraard speelt veiligheid een rol

- Pre als ik snel de snelweg op zou kunnen ivm woon-werkverkeer.
