Why didn't Sidious try to retreat and gain distance, as he did in the fight with Yoda, when Windu began to increasingly overwhelm him?

If close combat and sticking to swordsmanship were putting him at a disadvantage, why didn't he at least try to change his strategy or take a better position?

Even if he had failed, his defeat would have been more believable.

I don't deny that Mace fairly defeated him in the lightsaber duel, but I wonder how much Sidious actually did to win.

Theories, speculation and headcanons about lightsaber resistant materials

What are your theories, ideas and headcanons you have about the various metals, ores and other materials which are capable of resisting lightsabers such as Beskar, Cortosis, Phrik and others in Star Wars universe whenever it's about their history and origins, where to find them, and the way they are mined or forged or used, their cultural importance for those who use them as well as those they are used against most famously the Jedi?

Which one is the most practical? Which one is the most expensive or cheapest? Who found the best use of them?

I like to imagine that the Morgukai were the ones who found and developped the process of purifying Cortosis which turns the metal which desactivates lightsabers but is otherwise brittle into a nearly-indestructible metal; with said method being later used by Imperial Knights for their armors and gauntlets; through millenias of forging, use and experimentations with the precious metal they use to make their weapons, armor and gauntlets with which they famously fought Jedi for centuries.

Why is it so hard for fans to grasp that the Vaapad doesn't function the same way in canon and legends?

In legends, it's literally kryptonite for dark side users. Just as a lightsaber deflects a blaster's punch, this style turns the Sith's ferocity and aggression against them, creating a loop that allows the Vaapad user to fight almost effortlessly.

In canon, however, it's simply a modified version of the extremely aggressive Form VII, Juyo. It taps into the user's inner darkness, which derives true pleasure and excitement from combat, teetering on the brink of falling to the dark side. It's a more effective counter to the Sith's saber-fighting style than their Achilles' heel.

Clearly, they're not the same.

Despite this, people keep pushing versions from legends into canon to make Windu even more OP, ignoring the additions that there it can actually be overwhelmed by too powerful dark side techniques.

Give me one statement or feat placing Anakin or Mustafar Vader above Yoda/Sidious (EU)

I see everyone placing EU MFV above these two and I’m not really sure why. Let’s compare their statements

Anakin
“The most powerful Jedi in his generation. Perhaps any generation. The fastest. The strongest. An unbeatable pilot. An unstoppable warrior. On the ground, in the air or sea or space, there is no one even close. He has not just power, not just skill, but dash: that rare, invaluable combination of boldness and grace.
He is the best there is at what he does. The best there has ever been. And he knows it.”

“But Anakin was strong in the Force, stronger than any Jedi Yoda had known in all his hundreds of years.”

“Anakin Skywalker is the greatest hero of the Jedi Order. He is a bold commander in the Clone Wars, a peerless warrior with a lightsaber, and an amazing pilot.”

“He is very powerful in the Force, perhaps even more powerful than Yoda. However, he doesn't yet have Yoda's experience and, as a result, has a much harder time controlling all that power.”

Yoda
“As a result, his lightsaber skills were awesomely potent. Yoda had mastered the exceptional art of Form IV lightsaber combat, and was widely acknowledged as the greatest lightsaber duellist in the entire Jedi Order.”

“Yoda was the oldest and most powerful Jedi in the order.”

“Along with Mace Windu, a senior member of the Jedi Council, Yoda was the most respected and most powerful member of the Jedi Order.”

Yoda has several direct statements of being the most powerful jedi in the order, along with its best duelist. Anakin has a few claiming the same—which can be chalked up to in-universe speculation or just hubris—followed by a lot of maybes. Anakin’s introduction in the ROTS novel can refer to the fact that Anakin is just physically the most gifted Jedi in the order, which is true: Yoda can barely walk outside of battle and can still be considered slower without being weaker. The “unbeatable warrior” statement also applies to Yoda so I can say this is just a generalization.

It’s also worth noting that even at his absolute strongest on Mustafar Sidious states (and this is in legends too) that “Darth Vader will become more powerful than either of us.” It’s pretty evident that Anakin/MFV is in no way objectively above these two.

Knightfall Anakin vs. RotJ Darth Vader

Time to put this one to rest. Who is definitively the most powerful Anakin, KF Ani or End of Life Vader? Give me your most convincing arguments, this feud must be settled once and for all.

The death of Darth Maul in legends

I don't talk about his final battle against Vader.

I want to ask how he died before that. When was the last time we saw Maul before the fight? Or did Vader simply fight a clone and Maul might still be alive?
