Clearance find.

I've had my old Dude for 8ish years, he was abandoned at my house, nearly died as I wasn't a plant person back then. But Dude changed all that. Well today I'm happy shopping at Fred Meyers and decided to check their clearance plants. I spotted some big purple plant from across the room. Google lens, and it's a tradescantia. According to Google, and as easy to grow as the Dude I already have. I'm very happy with my find. I've already taken 6 cuttings to prop and fill out his pot, I'm going to report when the cutting are ready. He's going to be glorious this time next year

Plant help

This is my beauty Moishe Ruth. She was doing fine and thriving (as far as I know) up until recently when i went on a one week trip and got back a few days ago. She has not been tampered with nor has anyone gone near him as the door was shut the whole week. Do any of you know what these spots could be?

Awkward teenager stage?

My baby nanouk almost died then became a monster after its last repotting 😵‍💫 It seems happy, but I'm worried about the reaching and lack of growth in the center pot. My plan is to start chopping and propping + moving it to a south-facing window (currently NW). Tips appreciated!

Best Cutting Techniques

Hi everyone! First post here… I’ve been nursing this Nanouk and it’s doing really well! The brown spots were there when I received it and I’ve been told to leave those pedals if they’re not getting worse… I think it’s just water damage?

What are your trimming / repotting tips? I wanted to let them get long and hang but I’m thinking of cutting and filling the pot first… then letting them grow from there? Open to thoughts!

First pic is before I trimmed, second is how I repotted it. Thanks!

My tradescantia experience has humbled me…

So I let my hubris get the best of me. I thought I was the queens of trads. Just bc of the success I’ve had with them. I propped the mom over 10 times and everyone has happy successful sweet and flirty and zebrina.

I had to get rid of some furniture bc it was falling apart. But it’s where the bulk of my plants were with successful growlight set up. Again. I thought I was an expert. But after tossing the furniture, I had to rehome / move a lot of plants around to make it make sense bc of limited space and outlets!!

Last photo is my only live live one.

Now, my trades are on life support. Nothing I repot takes! I seriously don’t know what I’m doing wrong bc I’m doing what I’ve been doing and no problems. I’m just so sad. I’m going back to superthrive vitamin as I used to use it a lot and had a beautiful massive plant.

If anyone else has stories of woes regarding ur trads, please share 🥺

White spots on leaves

I was away for a week and had my neighbor water my plants for me while I was gone. I came back and saw today the leaves on just my tradescantia are covered in these white specs. Is this some kind of infestation? I did not see any moving bugs. Is it just debris that these plants can collect sometimes?

Slow Death?

Over half of this plant has died and I am at a loss as to how to care for it properly. It gets bright, indirect light. I water from the bottom and it gets distilled water about once a week. After each watering, I lose at least two branches…? Like what’s going on?

Help!

I've had this tradescantia for about 3 years now and she's looking very upset. To be honest, I've never really known how to look after her but she's never looked like this! Is there anything I can do to help her at this stage?

The parts of each stem closest to the soil have gone thin and look almost dead, but the end leaves are still fairly happy and flowering.

Any advice is appreciated! Apologies for my crime against this beautiful plant 😣

Ursula is a BEAST

EDIT to add: That is a PAPER TOWEL roll. XD it's sitting on the table among all the cuttings. Those are all multi-branched clippings that I hadn't sorted yet. Lol

This is Ursula Gen 2. I did a full pot reset less than a year ago (last 2 photos; 23 Aug, 2025) and she has grown SO much.

I did a big chop last night, and I still need to go back in and do some pruning. I had a literal curtain of her blocking one of my shelves. If anyone ever says there's no good beginner plant, I'm going to hand them 5 cuttings. 😂 she's thrived on neglect (mental health made caring for my plants really difficult for a few months)

Photos 1 & 2 - Post Chop

Photos 3 & 4 - What was chopped

Photos 5 & 6 - Fresh reset from Aug 2025, fresh reset vs pre-reset

Help with Tradescantia fluminensis lavender

Hi everyone! My lavender tradescantia is driving me crazy. I’m growing it in perfect light conditions (see variegata for comparison) and I don’t overwater them, only water when top soil is dry. I’m not sure why the leaves of my lavender plants keep burning. Any suggestions would be appreciated!!!

Brown Spots on Nanouk Leaves

Hello! Looking for some help and recommendations for my Nanouk. I picked this beauty up three months ago and she has shot up, witha fair few flowers over the past month or so. Only issue is these blasted brown spots.

The plant is in a north facing window with no direct sunlight, pot has good drainage - any other suggestions? I do my best to keep water off the leaves. This is my first plant of this type so I'm learning as I go.

Zero-to-hero: my Tradescantia rescue mission

The apartment we rent out had a dried-out Tradescantia in the kitchen (have no idea who thought it was a good idea to put it there, if no-one live there…). It was in terrible condition: almost all the stems were dried out, and all the leaves were paper-thin. The first picture was taken a week after the rescue mission, the second was taken just a few minutes ago. Well, I guess the rescue mission was successful!

Advice please!

Hi! I am so thrilled with how this has grown and fills up the baskets. I guess this is the type of plant that could just fill up any size planter you put it in? Should I just let this keep going? I know I can trim it and propagate into other pots but any other recommendation?

Repot?

I put this little one into a 2 inch bigger pot about 3 1/2 weeks ago, and she exploded with growth. Roots are now coming out of the bottom and she has filled the top of the pot. Do I leave her as she is or do I go up in pot size again? Thanks in advance!
