Greek island hopping

In the start of July ai did Greek island hopping with ferry this year. Great experience.

Serifos - Milos - Folegandros - Ios - Mykonos

Am sharing some photos from the trip, hipe you will get the glimpse of the Greek hospitality in it.

On short:

- Serifos is cute and calm with nice beaches.

- Milos is awesome, like you are on another planet, one of the best Islands I have been. Great beaches, great port, nice fishing villages and of course Sarakiniko and Kleftiko. Here you need to spend a day on a sailboat to fully experience the island.

- Folegandros is small, unique and cute island with stunning views and cute church on top.

- Ios is young people frendly island, very well organized island, with great roads and nice beaches. Plenty of stuff to do here

- Mykonos is also awesome island, prices are decent, not as you are reading in the news. For example 0,5l of water was 0,5EUR, while pita gyros was 8eur and you are full. So if you want to enjoy Mykonos cheap, you can. If you want to spend money, you probably can also, but I did not invest my time in searching expensive restaurants.

Short itinerary - looking for validation

Hi sweet Greek folks! my husband and I are travelling to athens -> paros -> mykonos -> athens for a short week 07 until 13 Sep. Our flights to and from athens are booked. I wanted to reconfirm - internally athens to paros and Myk to Athens, ferries should be fine if we are not worried about time? Also which operators would you recommend for fast, safe and comfortable ferry journeys. thank you!!!

Greece For Christmas!

My husband, teenager, and I are traveling to Greece over Christmas for 8 days. We plan to stay in Athens for a couple of days, then perhaps visit an island, but we are unsure where would be best in December. I would love to hear any recommendations, including if we should skip an island all together.

Marijuana and Traveling

I am traveling to Athens for a long period of time and want to bring some marijuana cartridges. They have no odor. I am checking 2 bags and bringing 1 backpack as a carry on. We are flying out from the US (a state where weed is legal) to Amsterdam, and then to Athens. I was hoping to bring upwards of 8 cartridges with me.

Will customs or bag checks stop me and get me in trouble? Is that amount too much? Will I set off red flags? Do they care about cartridges if I roll some up in my clothes and put some others in a makeup bag? Also, do they sell the batteries for the cartridges? (Not sure why they would unless they make nicotine for them)

The same thing with nicotine too. I want to bring a few disposable nicotine vapes from home because I really don’t like other brands. Will I be stopped for the nicotine?

I promise I’m not some druggie but I do really enjoy my weed at night!

Greek Island Hopping - Itinerary Help

We're planning a greek island hopping trip for next summer - couple in our mid 40's. We like to explore local villages, visit picturesque beaches, snorkelling, sitting in a nice bar to watch the world go by,enjoying local culture and historical sites, and a vibrant vibe but not a party resort. We tend to avoid big fancy hotels, and are happy with a small studio or b&b. We like trying local foods, but not fancy / pretentious bars - taste over style always wins.

We are starting in Athens (non-negotiable) and can take a ferry or fly to our next destination. We don't want to go to Santorini, Mykonos or Milos, and plan to fly home from our last destination - so we need to end in Kos, Rhodes, Crete, Zante, Kefalonia, Lesvos, Preveza (Lefkada), Kalamata, Skiathos or Thesaloniki.

After Athens, we have two weeks for island hopping, and would like to do 2-3 islands, with 4 days in each rather than rush from island to island.

We're looking at the below routes, but also open to other suggestions. If anyone has any better ideas:

Route One: Athens > Saronic Islands (Aegina, Hydra, Spetses, Poros, Salamis) - we like this for ease, but worried that some of the islands may be a bit too upmarket and expensive

Route Two: Athens > Overnight ferry to Patmos with a cabin, or fly to Samos > on to Kalymnos or Ikaria > end in Kos - is there enough in Patmos for 4 nights or would Samos be better? is kalymnos or Ikaria a better option.

Route Three > Athens > Evia by bus > on to Skopelos > fly home from Skiathos - we don't really know enough about Evia to know if this is a good option or not, or if Skopelos is the right place to jump to from there?

Route Four > somewhere in the dodecanese that ends in Rhodes, so we can have a few nights in Rhodes Town before flying home? Not sure where though!

Any thoughts? Ideas? Other suggestions?

Visiting mid September: Milos-Syros-Paros OR Milos-Sifnos-Paros?

Hello! Would greatly appreciate your advice/tips:

I'll be traveling with my husband in mid September, we're in our 30's. We want to have a balance of different features with each island, and enjoy things being lively, dinner with drinks, and vibes overall. Of course, love the beach, too - I think we'll have plenty of that on the other islands.

We are really struggling to decide if we should go to Syros or Sifnos as part of our itinerary. Any thoughts or tips would be greatly appreciated! We are aware of the Gastronomy festival going on in Sifnos.

What Greek island would you recommend to someone that loved Skopelos?

We like that chic vibe and beautiful beautiful water is really important, we are in our early 20s so we like to dress up for a nice dinner or go to a bar but we don’t really like overcrowded places.
We were thinking about Naxos , Kefalonia , Sifnos or Milos.
Thank you in advance 🙏🏼

Where to go in Greece to reach the absolute opposite of a place like Kavos - and of most of Corfu in general?

The question is in the title, but just to make sure it is clear : I (34M) am not talking about nature, the beaches, the surrounding countryside… That part was fine. I am talking about the public. The impossibility to find any chill space that remains chill more than an hour. Etc.

I have been replacing a friend and covering her shifts for now two weeks, and I am pretty pissed at her for 1) not telling me that she was sending me work somewhere that she definitely KNEW I would hate and would cause me anxiety 2) not even mentioning how bad the pay was for such long hours… she did me dirty.
Or she didn’t realize it fully. I don’t know. Either way I should not have so reason accepted-thats on me.

Without revealing any gatekept greek secret that locals should definitely preserve to keep these spots from becoming overcrowded and overpriced, where should a man in his mid thirties who hates clubs, noise; and drunk 19 year old british tourists in general, go to RELAX ? 😂

Not in luxury or anything. Nothing flashy. Nothing with mass appeal. Just a place thats.. well. Just real, I guess is what I mean. Somewhere where mass drunkenness and mass tourism isn’t the core business model ? 🙂‍↕️

Any recommendation of post-kavos burnout destinations much appreciated. Heading to port in Leffkimi !

EDIT : should have made one thing more clear : I give zero fucks about nightlife whatsoever- other than good greek food spots, unexpensive tavernas that close early, and some occasional live music 😅 so im evening life friendly more than nightlife friendly

How to get to Syros from Athens

Hello there,

We are planning a trip to Syros on Aug 29 and I would like to have a little help. How can we get to Syros from Athens airport, please? I was checking SkyExpress, but it says that there are no flights on that day. Is it possible? If there are no flights, which ferry company would you recommend, please?

thank you in advance!

Visiting Greece in late Sept/early Oct (Sept 28 – Oct 4): Good for beaches & monuments? Warmest spots and transport advice needed

Hey everyone :)

I’m planning a short trip to Greece from September 28th to October 4th (about a week). My main goals for this trip are two things: exploring historical monuments/ancient ruins and enjoying some beach time.

Since it’s early autumn / tail-end of the season, I’d love some advice from locals and experienced travelers:

  1. Weather & Temperatures: What should I realistically expect in terms of daytime temperatures, rain chances, and sea temperature around this time? Is swimming still pleasant?
  2. Best & Warmest Destinations: Which cities, regions, or islands tend to stay the warmest and sunniest during late September/early October to soak up the last bits of summer?
  3. Getting Around: What is the most practical way to travel between these spots?
    • Would you recommend renting a car, using public transit (buses/trains), taking domestic flights, or taking ferries?

Any itinerary suggestions or general tips for traveling during this time of year are super welcome. Thanks in advance for the help!

Note: I'm from Brazil, so I'm more used to the heat than the cold.

Greek Geography: The Furthest Two Greek Islands from each other. This will shock you!

Having lived in Greece in my teenage years in the mid 90s, I have always been fascinated with Greek geography, specifically Greek islands.

With this being the case, I wanted to find out what were the two furthest Greek islands from each other?

I think I have my answer and it is not as easy as you think, since different sources say different things.
