New Feature Added - File and Folder Protection

Good Day Community,

A new feature that allows you to protect files and folders from being deleted has arrived.

I wanted to give users a secure way to safeguard their important items, so I built a file protection system that blocks deletion attempts and highlights protected items with a distinct shield badge.

This feature is available on both the mobile and TV versions of the app, and it works seamlessly across local storage, network shares, and online cloud accounts.

To find and use this feature, start by selecting one or more files or folders in the main browser list by long-pressing an item.

Once you enter selection mode, you will see new protect and unprotect icons appear on the options bar alongside the other standard action buttons.

Tapping the protect button, which is represented by a shield icon, will immediately apply protection to the selected items and display a lock shield badge on the right side of the file or folder in the list.

If you attempt to delete any items that are protected, the deletion will be intercepted and the app will display a popup alert letting you know that the item is protected and must be unprotected first.

When you want to remove this safeguard, simply select the protected items in selection mode again and tap the unprotect button to restore normal deletion capability.

You can also customize whether these protection buttons appear in your selection toolbar by navigating to settings and customizing your toolbar icons where you can toggle their visibility on or off depending on your preference.

Thank you and kind regards

New Feature Added - Settings Search

Good Day Community,

A new search and filter feature has arrived in the Settings screen of the app.

As I have added more configuration options over time, finding the exact option you want can sometimes take a bit of scrolling.

To solve this, I have created a settings search bar that sits pinned at the top of the settings page so you can find any option in seconds by simply typing its name or description.

This feature is available on both the mobile and TV versions of the UFM app.

To use the new search tool, open the settings screen from the main menu and you will see a search input field pinned at the very top.

As soon as you begin typing, the list of options below will automatically filter to show only the settings that match your search query.

If you type something that does not match any available option, a message will display letting you know no results were found.

You can clear the search at any time by tapping the clear button on the right side of the text field.

On TV devices, you can navigate focus to the search field using your D-pad, and the entire card will highlight in yellow to show it is selected, letting you type using your device's on-screen keyboard.

I also understand that some of you might prefer to keep the settings screen exactly as it was, with no extra search bar at the top.

For this reason, we have included a toggle to turn the search bar on or off.

You will find this option at the very top of the settings list, labeled as the Settings Search Bar toggle.

If you turn it off, the search bar disappears completely, and the settings list expands to use the full screen space just like before.

Toggling it back on will bring the search bar back instantly.

Thank you and kind regards

New Feature Added - File Properties and Tagging - (Mobile only)

Good Day Community,

A new file properties and tagging feature has arrived in the mobile version of the app. This feature makes it easy to organize, label, and filter your files using custom alphanumeric tags, and also provides a quick way to view metadata. For now, this feature is available on mobile only.

To use this, select any single file in local, network, or online storage. You will see a properties button appear at the bottom right of the screen. Tap this button to open the properties dialog, which displays details like the file path, modified date, size, and image resolution if it is a photo. At the bottom of this dialog, you can view existing tags or tap the pencil icon to add new tags. When entering tags, make sure to use alphanumeric characters only as any spaces or special characters will be removed. You can also select from previously created tag pills in the editor to quickly add or remove them.

To configure your tagging preferences, open the Settings screen from the main menu and look for the new File Tags option. Tapping this option takes you to a dedicated management screen. Here you will find a toggle switch that allows you to enable or disable multiple file tagging. When this toggle is switched on, selecting more than one file in the file browser will display a tag button instead of the properties button at the bottom right. Tapping this button lets you apply tags to all of the selected files at the same time. The File Tags management screen also lists all of the tags you have created across the app. Next to each tag is a delete icon, which you can tap to globally remove that tag from the app. Doing this automatically strips the tag from all files it was attached to, including updating local image metadata. Additionally, you can filter your file list by tags by tapping the sort and filter icon in the top toolbar. A tags section will display below the filter choices showing all your tags, and checking them will filter the file list to show only items matching your selection.

Thank you and kind regards

Hey everyone.

Wanted to put together a solid overview of the app in one place since a lot of people ask about specific features and it is not always obvious where to find them. I also want to make sure people know this app runs properly on Android TV, Amazon FireOS, and Fire Stick devices, because that tends to get overlooked. More on that below.

Android TV, Amazon FireOS and Fire Stick
This is worth calling out properly because it is something UFM Pro does that most file managers simply do not. The TV version is not a phone app stretched to fit a big screen. It has been built specifically for TV environments with full D-pad navigation throughout. Every screen, every menu, every interaction is designed to be used with a remote control. No touch required, no awkward zoomed in phone UI, no broken focus states.

Install via the Downloader app using code: 1581139 for Amazon Devices, I am in the process to have it on the official Amazon Store.

If you have ever installed a file manager on your Fire Stick or Android TV box and ended up with a cramped phone layout that barely works with a remote, UFM Pro is a completely different experience.

Menus are laid out for 10 foot viewing distances, navigation flows naturally with the D-pad, and nothing requires you to dig through a UI that was never meant for a remote control.

TV specific features include dedicated pairing screens for device to device connections, separate auth flows for Google Drive and OneDrive that work without a phone style browser, Shizuku support for TV, and custom cache limit settings suited to TV hardware.

The file server also works great on TV, meaning you can run an FTP or SFTP server from your Fire Stick and pull files from it on your PC over your local network.

File browsing and navigation
The main file browser supports dual pane mode through TwinWindow, which opens two folders side by side. Useful for moving files between locations without copying and then navigating separately. Available on both phone and TV.

Storage analysis
The storage analyzer gives you a breakdown of where your space is going. It finds large files, duplicates, junk, old files, and shows folder sizes. The duplicate finder works well, just go through the safety confirmation before bulk deleting anything as it is there to flag files that could be riskier to remove.

Encrypted vault
The vault uses AES-256 encryption. Pick a folder, set it up, and from then on those files are only accessible through the vault browser inside the app. There is no credential recovery by design so keep your details somewhere safe.

Network shares and cloud storage
Local network shares over SMB, FTP, and SFTP are all supported. For cloud you can connect Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, WebDAV, and S3 compatible storage. The S3 setup lets you point the app at any S3 compatible endpoint, not just AWS. TV users get dedicated auth flows for Google Drive and OneDrive that do not require a standard browser.

Built in file server
You can run an FTP or SFTP server directly from your device, including from a Fire Stick or Android TV box. Start it from the server host screen, connect from your PC with any FTP client, and it stays running as a foreground service even when the screen is off. No cables needed.

Sync
Sync profiles let you keep two locations in sync on a schedule. Works across local storage and network locations, so keeping a folder mirrored to a NAS is straightforward. The scheduler runs it in the background without any manual input.

Media viewers
Images, video, audio, PDFs, text files, and ZIP and 7ZIP archives all open natively. There is an enhanced media player with a custom interface for video and audio. APNG animated images are supported too.

App management
Browse installed apps and install APK, XAPK, and APKS files through the built in package installer. The storage analyzer also includes debloat suggestions for identifying apps you may not need.

Shizuku support
Shizuku gives the app broader file access without full root. Works on both mobile and TV with separate setup screens for each. Once running, the app can reach parts of the filesystem that are otherwise restricted.

Remote management
Pair devices over WiFi for remote file management. ADB pairing is also supported. Once paired you get a full remote file interface over your local network. TV has its own dedicated pairing screen.

Search and indexing
Search runs off a background file index. Configure what gets indexed in settings under storage indexer. Once built, search is fast and supports filters. If results seem incomplete, check the index detail screen to see if indexing is still in progress.

Home screen widget
A bookmark widget lets you jump straight to your most used folders from the home screen. Set up your favorites in settings and they appear there automatically.

Bluetooth remote, your phone as a TV remote
This one surprises people. UFM Pro can turn your phone into a Bluetooth remote for your Android TV or Fire Stick, and it works across the entire TV, not just inside the app. Once connected, you can navigate the TV interface, control volume, and handle power from your phone. It is a proper system level remote, so you can use it in Netflix, YouTube, your TV launcher, wherever.

This is not a companion app gimmick. If you have ever lost your Fire Stick remote down the back of the couch you will immediately understand why having this built into a file manager app you already have installed is genuinely useful. Open UFM Pro on your phone, connect over Bluetooth, and you are controlling your TV.

🔗 Download: Google Play Store

If you have questions or something is not working as expected, post with as much detail as you can about your device, OS version, and what you were doing. The more context the easier it is to help.

The tip jar is in the supporter loyalty screen if you want to support development. Thanks for being here.

Thank You and Kind Regards

A little NFS bug

The app goes back to NFSv3 if NFSv4 is manually selected and saved., after the app is closed and removed from recent items. Same behavior when setting it on auto.

I would like to ask the UFManagerPro developer to add a feature to pin the file folder as a protection against accidental deletion, and to add an identification icon to the folder to make it easier to identify the corresponding app. Thank you in advance for your understanding.

Enhancement - NFS Storage - Auto Detect NFS and Share

Good Day Community,

I have enhanced the NFS setup, you will now notice that there is a search icon within NFS, what this will do is detect your NFS server, once detected, it will also populate your remote path, no more guessing what it should be.

Now it is easy, type in the remote name, select auto, search for your NFS, select NFS - Share and save.

No more hassles, look at the attached images on how the changes will work.

Thank you and kind regards

New Feature Added - Full Background Media Player

Good Day Community,

A big update to the UFM Media Player has just landed. It changes the way audio and video playback works in the app quite significantly. Instead of stopping when you leave the player screen, media now keeps playing in the background, just like you would expect from a proper media player.

So what does this mean in practice. When you play an audio file or a video through the UFM Media Player and press the home button or navigate away, playback continues. You will see a notification in the shade with the track title, artist name, and three control buttons. Play and pause, skip to the next track, and skip back to the previous one. The notification updates every second so the time display stays accurate. If you tap on the notification itself it opens the full player screen again right where you left off.

For video files specifically, there is Picture in Picture mode. When you are watching a video and press home, the video shrinks into a small floating window that stays on screen while you do other things. You can double tap on the PiP window to make it go full screen again, or use the previous track, play pause, and next track buttons built right into the PiP controls. If PiP is not your thing, you can switch it to audio only in the settings screen under the new Background Video Mode option. This is available on mobile only for now.

The player also has a few other useful additions. When the current track is nearing the end and there is another file queued up after it, a small panel slides up from the bottom showing you what is coming next with the option to skip ahead or cancel the auto advance. There is a mini player bar that appears at the bottom of the file browser when something is playing, so you can see the current track and control it without going back to the full player screen. And if you tap the list icon in the player controls, a queue drawer opens up where you can see everything coming up, tap any item to jump to it, or reorder and remove tracks. Audio files show album art and metadata right in the player now, with the title, artist, and album displayed on a clean now playing screen.

The app handles audio focus properly too. If a phone call comes in or another app takes over audio, playback pauses and resumes automatically when you are done. All of this runs in a foreground service so Android does not kill it when the app goes into the background.

To get started, just open any audio or video file from the file browser and select UFM Media Player from the menu. The new features kick in automatically. You can configure the behaviour from the settings screen where you will find the Background Video Mode toggle, an option to show or hide the mini player, and a setting for auto resuming playback after interruptions.

Thank you and kind regards

New Feature - NFS v4 now supported (Including Guide)

Good Day Community,

I have totally rebuilt the NFS connection setup, my previous NFS only supported NFSv3, now in the next release it will include v4.

I have added a guide below on how this will work.

---------------------------------------------------------

NFS Connection Guide

NFS (Network File System) lets you browse files on a server directly from your Android device.

Quick-start: what you need to know

NFSv3

  • Port: 2049 (NFS) + 111 (portmapper)
  • Path format: Full server path
  • Best for: Older NAS / Linux servers
  • Authentication: AUTH_SYS (uid/gid)

NFSv4

  • Port: 2049 only
  • Path format: Relative to the NFSv4 export root
  • Best for: Modern NAS, Synology, TrueNAS
  • Authentication: AUTH_SYS (uid/gid)

Setting up a connection

  1. Open the Network section in the app.
  2. Tap Add Share → NFS.
  3. Fill in the fields described below.
  4. Tap Test Connection to verify before saving.

Fields explained

Host — The IP address or hostname of your NFS server.

Example: 192.168.1.100

NFS Version — Choose Auto, NFSv3 or NFSv4.

  • If you are unsure, try Auto first.
  • If it is NFSv4, use it is simpler to configure and uses only one port.
  • Fall back to NFSv3 if your server is older or NFSv4 is disabled.

Port — Leave at the default 2049 unless your server uses a non-standard port.

Path — This is the most important field and its meaning differs between v3 and v4.

NFSv3 — use the full server filesystem path

Enter the exact path as it appears in the server's /etc/exports file.

/srv/nfs/testshare
/volume1/media
/export/data

NFSv4 — use the path relative to the export root

NFSv4 servers define a single virtual root (the "pseudo-root"). Your path is relative to that root, not the absolute filesystem path.

/ <- the export root itself
/testshare <- a subfolder inside the export root
/media/movies <- nested subfolder

>

Worked test examples

These examples use a test Linux server at 192.168.10.57 configured with:

/srv/nfs/testshare *(rw,sync,no_subtree_check,no_root_squash,insecure,sec=sys)
/srv/nfs *(rw,sync,fsid=0,no_subtree_check,no_root_squash,insecure)

Test A — NFSv3

  • Host: 192.168.10.57
  • Version: NFSv3
  • Port: 2049
  • Path: /srv/nfs/testshare

Expected result: Connection succeeds, root directory listed in ~50–100 ms.

Test B — NFSv4 (root)

The server's /srv/nfs is the NFSv4 pseudo-root. Mounting / lands you directly there.

Expected result: Connection succeeds, you see the contents of /srv/nfs.

Test C — NFSv4 (subdirectory)

This navigates one level deep inside the NFSv4 root — equivalent to the server's /srv/nfs/testshare.

Expected result: Connection succeeds, you see the contents of /srv/nfs/testshare.

Troubleshooting

"Connection refused" or port check fails

  • The NFS service is not running on the server.
  • For NFSv3: both port 2049 and 111 must be reachable.
  • For NFSv4: only port 2049 is needed.

"Access denied" or mount fails immediately

Your server's export requires clients to connect from a privileged port (< 1024), which Android does not support.

Ask your server administrator to add the insecure option to the export:

# Linux /etc/exports
/your/export *(rw,sync,no_subtree_check,no_root_squash,insecure)

Then reload: sudo exportfs -ra

On a Synology NAS: go to Control Panel → File Services → NFS → Edit rules and enable "Allow connections from non-privileged ports".

On a TrueNAS/FreeNAS: enable "Allow non-root mount" in the NFS share settings.

NFSv4: "No such file or directory" (path not found)

You are using an absolute path instead of a pseudo-root-relative path.

  • Server exports /volume1 as root, want /volume1/media → wrong: /volume1/media, correct: /media
  • Server exports /srv/nfs as root, want /srv/nfs/data → wrong: /srv/nfs/data, correct: /data
  • Want the root itself → wrong: /srv/nfs, correct: /

NFSv3: "No such file or directory"

You are using a relative path. NFSv3 requires the full server filesystem path exactly as it appears in /etc/exports.

Mount succeeds but directory is empty

The server export may not include the directory contents, or uid/gid permissions on the server don't allow read access for the connecting user.

Try setting UID to 0 (root) in the connection settings for testing purposes, then restrict it once the connection is confirmed working.

Slow or timing out

  • Check that your device and server are on the same network (same Wi-Fi).
  • Avoid connecting over VPN unless the VPN is specifically routed to include the NFS server.
  • NFSv3 over slow or congested Wi-Fi may time out during the portmapper handshake — try NFSv4 instead, which uses a single TCP connection.

Common NAS quick-reference

  • Synology DSM — NFSv4 pseudo-root: the shared folder parent. Typical path: /volume1 → mount /sharename
  • TrueNAS CORE/SCALE — NFSv4 pseudo-root: dataset path. Typical path: full path, e.g. /mnt/pool/share
  • QNAP — NFSv4 pseudo-root: /share. Typical path: /sharename
  • Linux (nfs-kernel-server) — NFSv4 pseudo-root: whichever export has fsid=0. Typical path: relative to that export
  • Windows Server NFS — NFSv4 pseudo-root: drive or folder configured. Typical path: full UNC-style path

Community Feedback:

In UFM pro the share for Synology is /volume1/Media and not /Media.

Thank you and kind regards

NFS share syntax?

The shared folder is called '20T' on 10.0.0.11.

In linux the mount command is mount -t nfs 10.0.0.11:/20T <client mountpoint>.

The NAS exports file is pretty simple:

/srv/nfs 10.0.0.0/16(rw,sync,crossmnt,fsid=0,no_root_squash)
/srv/nfs/20T 10.0.0.0/16(rw,sync,no_root_squash)

I've tried the 20T as the remote path, 10.0.0.11/20T, 10.0.0.11:/20T, 2049 as the port number... Nothing worked so far.

New Feature Added - Range Selection in Edit Mode

Good Day Community,

A new feature has been added that makes selecting multiple files in the browser a lot quicker.

If you have ever needed to pick a bunch of consecutive files to copy, move, or delete, you know the drill long press the first file to enter selection mode and then tap each file one by one. It works fine for two or three files but when you need to grab a whole batch it can get tedious fast. The new range selection feature is meant to solve exactly that.

Here is how it works. When you long press a file to start selection mode, that file becomes your anchor point. You can scroll up or down as you normally would. When you find the file at the other end of the batch you want to select, long press that one as well and every file between your anchor and that second file gets selected in one go. It works in both directions so whether you start above and go down or start below and go up, the behaviour is the same.

There is also a handy detail if you prefer mixing individual selections with ranges. If you tap a single file on its own while in selection mode, the anchor moves to that file. So you can tap a file, scroll somewhere else, long press another file, and the range will include everything between the one you tapped and the one you long pressed. The same applies if you have already done a range and want to start a new one from a different spot just tap the next starting file and long press again from there.

This feature is available on both the mobile and TV versions of the app and works the same way on both. On mobile you use a touch long press and on TV you hold down the D pad centre button. The behaviour across local storage, network shares, and online storage is identical so you can use it wherever you are browsing files.

Thank you and kind regards

Mise à jour du jour

Salut l'ami,

Merci beaucoup
