Hello everyone, I hope you guys are having a great day. I was going to submit my application on August 1st, but then I started to wonder if I should finish my final SAT before I submit my application. I am taking the SAT on August 22nd. On my previous SAT, I got a 1240. That was a few months ago, and I am confident I can get a 1450+ on the SAT if I took it again. Should I wait till after the SAT or turn it in on August 1st? I want to major in biomedical engineering if that matters at all.

(P.S, is it better to turn in my application as early as possible or wait till later?)

I'm currently a high schooler right now who is in-state and I've always been interested in UT and I really love history and plan to go into law school after undergrad. Despite people saying COLA is really easy to get into, I still get stressed about whether or not I can get in. If you are a current COLA student right now, I would really appreciate it if you could talk about your stats and how you got in and what ECs you had and all that. Thank you! :)

1. Is there any difference between the acceptance rate between in-state (excluding the 5% rule) and out of state students? Does this depend on the major (ex: ECE?)

2. If I'm a Texas citizen and qualify for in-state tuition but go to high school outside of Texas, would I be put in the "in-state" bucket or "out-of-state" bucket in terms of admissions?

I took Spanish 1 in 7th grade in a different state. However, it didn't even count for high school GPA in that school (I didn't even know what GPA was until I went to high school). Additionally, over there, the grades are placed on a 1-4 scale (you can get 3.5 or 4 but nothing in between).

My counselors, however, forced those Spanish 1 grades into my transcript (they converted them into on level grades of 90 and 94). This however is a 4.1 and 4.4 already on my high school transcript. Then the same thing happened for 8th grade (but I was in Texas and still had no idea my language/algebra credits would go on my high school transcript).

Because of all this, I started high school with a 4.5 weighted GPA (3 classes).

Currently, I'm a rising senior and I brought my gpa up to a 5.36 and am now in the top 7% of my class (after like 13 ap classes😭). However, without those middle school grades, I'd easily be in the top 5% (I'm trying to apply to McCombs)

Does UT Austin actually check the transcript or calculate their own GPA or do they just plain look at the final GPA? Also is there anything I can do to like show them this info? I find it incredibly unfair that basically any other student has a massive advantage compared to me already and I don't want my middle school grades to be a deciding factor for my college acceptance. (Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!)

I want to pursue civil engineering at UT Austin. I’m a rising high school senior in Texas with a 3.5 UW and 5.2 weighted gpa. My freshman year was terrible due to personal reasons. I locked in sophomore year and have maintained straight As ever since. I have a huge upward trend in my grades. I’m in the top 5% of my graduating class (out of 830). Hey guys, I'm a rising (in-state) senior who plans to apply for math. What are my chances at UT as a math major + deans scholar or polymathic scholar?

For ref, my stats are pretty high-tier, but my ECs are kinda mid (I think).

I'm a transfer student and had originally signed up for an earlier virtual orientation and got the confirmation screen and payment confirmation, but my MyStatus hadn't updated. I called the office of admissions and they told me for some reason they didn't have any record of it probably due to a system error, so I have to sign for up for session 4 (August 3-7) since everything else filled up. Is there any chance I can still get into a good section for ochem 1??

hey i got into WSSU and at the beginning of my senior year i had a 2.8; things happen i was going through a-lot of personal stuff with family and mental health issues so it dropped at the end of the year to a 2.45. i was nervous that it would get rescinded so i spoke to my counselor about it but he said i will be okay. my final transcript got submitted on June 21st. and i was still admitted so i stopped worrying about it. i submitted housing. basically did and got everything already. Freshmen move in is on aug 9th, and today, JULY 23th they decided to rescind my application. 2 weeks before move in. I'm thinking it's because wssu is over capacity this year but its two weeks before they didn't say anything about it and i also got green lite and told i would be okay. what do i do? i don't want disappoint my dad and i also think its unfair to pull my admission two weeks before when i did everything i needed to do already. plus i did all my stuff early and they called instead of emailing me that i was rescinded. this blatantly unfair and i pray that i will get reinstated. had this happen to you or someone you know? did they get reinstated? what did they have to do?

hey I am very interested in aviation, one of my biggest extracurriculars is about aviation & aerospace; however, I want to apply as a Mechanical Engineering major to colleges. Is that a good idea? I don't want AOs thinking that I am not a fit for my intended major.

I am doing this because I feel like Aerospace is a relatively niche field and isn't as broad as Mech E, but both of them are extremely similar. In my supplemental essays, for "why us" or "why major" questions, if I mention for eg. a rocketry lab, an aviation-related student organization, or just talk about how my interest in planes led to an interest in engineering, but I apply as a mechanical engineering major, could that get me rejected? Would I need to explain why im not applying as an aerospace major?

This is my second time applying lol I applied in hs got capped and couldn’t accept it bc I was a dual enrollment student with over 60 hours it just wasn’t smart imo to do a program where I have alr taken almost every course and therefore have to redo them. I started classes at ACC got a 4.0 did some gov/politic related stuff and continued community service since it was a big thing I did in hs and had positions for. I had a problem w my transcripts that I had to resend multiple times so I had to eventually appeal just to get rejected. I’m not blaming anyone im just super bummed out :/

I think I want to try again ut is srsly my dream school but idk how I’m going to get in if classes that are in progress aka my fall 26 classes won’t count towards my application. I’m frustrated and if anyone in gov at ut Austin has any advice or will let me share my stats and help decide what to take this sem pls dm me :)

I am an incoming freshman at UT Austin planning to major in Mechanical Engineering, but I have recently been considering transferring to Electrical and Computer Engineering.

From my understanding, the earliest I can apply for an internal transfer is during the spring semester, and if accepted, I would officially start as an ECE major at the beginning of my sophomore year. However, I am concerned about potentially delaying graduation by more than 1–2 semesters.

I know that as a non-ECE student, I may be able to take introductory ECE courses such as ECE 302 and ECE 306 during the spring semester (assuming availability). Would it be worth taking these courses even though I am not guaranteed admission into ECE? My concern is balancing ECE courses with MechE-specific requirements during the same semester and potentially overloading myself.

My main career interests are in computer engineering, embedded systems, robotics, and hardware-related roles. I am trying to decide between:

1. Transferring from MechE to ECE as soon as possible
2. Staying in MechE and pursuing an ECE master's later
3. Staying in MechE while adding robotics-focused coursework (such as a robotics minor, if possible) and taking mechatronics/embedded-related electives

For anyone familiar with UT’s programs, which path would provide the strongest preparation for embedded hardware, robotics, and similar careers? Would a MechE BS + ECE MS provide enough ECE depth, or would transferring earlier be better?

Additionally, if I apply for an internal transfer and get accepted, am I allowed to decline the transfer and remain in Mechanical Engineering, or does acceptance automatically move me into ECE?

I took CS classes every year in middle school, but I stopped in high school because I thought I wanted to go to med school, and my parents discouraged me from continuing. When I started to get back into coding before my junior year, I, for some reason, still decided not to take a CS class, and now I can't fit it into my senior year schedule. The only thing I have on my application is a random, basic Python course I took. Do I have any chance at x+cs, and is there any way I can improve my chances last minute before this admissions cycle?

I'd still be happy to go to UT for just neuroscience (and I have the grades/ECs to get in for that), but I really like the neuro+cs program.
