How to cancel an unemployment claim

I was an idiot and accidentally filed for last week instead of this week. I have called almost 15 times for the past 3 hours trying to get a hold of unemployment services to cancel. Is there any easier way I can do this?

Wrongfully fired will I qualify for unemployment?

Story time:

So on June 4th I was pulled in my companies office telling me they caught me on a company vehicles camera saying something about my district manager. I said he had no backbone. I admitted to saying what I said obviously & since then I was terminated. I mean cmon we all have our own opinions about others especially management. Keep in mind I never threatened anybody nor was showing anger. I was very calm about everything.

I worked there for 2 years. I was also being bullied & harassed & they did nothing about the other employees/managers.

Does me saying what I said disqualify me from getting unemployment? I’m just really annoyed right now. It’s been 3 weeks since I filed & I haven’t heard anything. I just filled out a form they sent & have been certifying every week so far.

Thanks!

Possibility of qualifying after quitting?

Hi all. I am considering quitting my job due to their unwillingness to be flexible with my return to work after having a baby. My daughter was three months premature, spent 94 days in the NICU, and has a lot of care needs as a result of that. She is being followed by half a dozen specialists, receives early intervention therapies (PT and speech) twice a week, and we have been told that she cannot go to daycare due to her high risk for serious infection that would be very likely to result in re-hospitalization.

I spoke with my supervisors about all of this in May and said that I would need some additional unpaid time off the set up care for her before returning to work. I work at a college so I was asking for about 8 weeks of unpaid time before the fall semester begins, which they were open to letting me take. However, which I put the request in, they denied it outright and said I have to come back, fully in person Monday through Friday, in two weeks when my paid leave ends. I asked if work from home was an option and was denied.

With all of this in mind, how likely is it that I would be approved for unemployment benefits after quitting with good cause? I’ve been trying to call to talk to someone, but I get hung up on every time due to high call volume.

I appreciate any input or insight you can offer.

Went to certify by phone. NYSDOL says they 'have information that I am currently working'?

Not sure where they would have gotten that info, but if there's a place I'm supposed to be showing up and getting paid, please do tell me where 🙄

Question about benefits, desperate times

hey. I have been dealing with a large amount of just paranoid scrolling and figured I’d shoot a question here because perhaps it’ll result in something fruitful.

basically I left my job that I worked for a year and a half for a railroad job where I ended up getting laid off. filed for state unemployment a month ago, got the railroad unemployment denial letter, so the state is now investigating the job I held prior and the circumstances of my departure, which was my quitting to take a better job. anyway, they sent a questionnaire to my previous job. but the bills have not stopped and I am wondering if anyone here has ever been in a similar position, and how long after that final questionnaire was sent out did you receive a letter of confirmation or denial?

at this point I’m willing to accept anything. as we are well aware, the job market right now is a nightmare, and I’ve been applying like crazy anyhow. just wanted to see if anyone’s had a similar experience and can elucidate the timeline.

Am I able to collect unemployment again?

I was let go of my job in December and collected unemployment in January through April until I worked as a contractor for 2 months.

I made more money per week with the new job, so my questions are…

  1. Am I even able to collect unemployment?
  2. If I can, would it just be the amount I was previously getting?
  3. If the answer to both of those is yes, would it reset or would I only be eligible for less weeks where I can certify?

I don’t see any option to file a new claim or anything like that and when I pressed certify it said I need to speak to someone but of course I couldn’t get through.

[New York] Break in claim partial unemployment confusion

So i work a part time job that is 14 hours a week so every week I certify that I worked 11-16 which is 1 full day in unemployment world.
This week I went to urgent care because I was feeling unwell and found out I had a viral throat infection and was given 4 days off to recover/heal from it. My return date on my doctor's note is Monday.
So when Certifying this week for benefits I put 0 days worked instead of my usual 1 and it flagged my claim for an additional verification page calling it a "break in claim" basically the system thinks i was let go or quit... i dont understand this... and there's no way around this, and theres no way to out medically excuses or anything.. my confusion with unemployment is does it think people are robots and cant ever miss a day of work one time without automatically meaning they were let go?
its asking me
What is the reason you are no longer working for your most recent employer? Choose one.
• School Employee:
You are employed directly by a school and you are now on a school break, holiday or recess period, and have been offered work when school begins again. Note: You are not a school employee if you work for a private company contracted by the school (such as bus or food service companies).
• Lack of work:
You are unemployed because of a permanent or temporary lack of work, reduction in hours, downsizing, business shutdown, job elimination, company restructuring/reorganization, or lack of company funds

Quit:
You voluntarily left your job.
• Discharged/Let Go:
You were discharged because you were unable to meet employer performance or production standards, or you were unable to meet employer's qualifications for the
idk how to answer this because i'm still employed the just was out sick this week and im cleared to return tomorrow... why does unemployment do this?

Got questionnaire about my severance, have a few questions

I just received a letter and questionnaire stating that I received severance and would more or less have to fill it out and verify this. I believe I’m getting this because I didn’t say I was getting severance when I first filed for unemployment. I said that on the application because I filed this immediately the moment I got laid off start of this month and was a little too hasty in filing for unemployment. I realized my mistake by the time I received the official letter from my former employer stating that I’m receiving 4 weeks severance. This is my first time filing for unemployment, so I also didn’t know at the time that you immediately have to contact the DoL to let them know you are getting severance if you filed it wrong. I left it alone and figured it wasn’t a big deal.

My last day of work was June 1st. I got my last paycheck, which is about a week's worth of pay. I received my severance pay on June 12 and June 26, which is yesterday at the time of this post. The severance is about a month's worth of pay all together. Will I still receive unemployment despite receiving severance because it's over at this point, or will I get denied because I got severance? I haven't got any unemployment payments yet. Will I also have to repay any unemployment I receive by the time they get the questionnaire and process my claim?

Would I be required to repay benefits if I refuse a job I’m qualified for?

If I refuse a job offer I’m qualified for but I’m not interested in, will I be required to repay any or all benefits I have received?

Can I simply just stop claiming benefits when I receive the offer? Or am I required to state I refused an offer on the weekly certification?

I understand either way my future benefits would end.

"You have already claimed benefits for this week." Yet I haven't. Is this normal?

Filed for unemployment June 1st. I've been claiming every week unemployment. Still haven't been officially approved, but I try to file every week.

When I tried filing with week I was hit with: "You have already claimed benefits for this week."

Should I be concerned or disregard it? Because I know for sure I did not claim benefits this week.

Can I get disquieted ?

I worked for a company called Universal protection and In June 12 2025 I was fired after a physical altercation I had with a colleague, I didn’t start it though . But the statement I wrote to the manager when he woke me up with a phone call , made it seem like I snitched on myself , I was concussed due to the injuries I suffered during the attack , my eyes were extremely sensitive to light so when he woke me up and told me to Email him a statement I used ChatGPT , gave it brief context and told it to make sound like I’m taking responsibility and make sound corporate. Anyways I got fired , after that I got an apprenticeship as a mechanic I was working there for 8 months but due to performance I was fired . That’s what triggered me to file for unemployment, anyway I got my way2go card in the mail , and money deposited by the DOL so I assumed I got approved . Yesterday I got a letter in the mail asking for my side of the story of what happened at Universal protection , so I gave the truth and sent a photo evidence of my injuries after . I’m anxious . So just because I receive the Way2go card and they put money in it doesn’t mean I got approved ? Can a precious employer from 1 year ago , get me disqualified? Thanks .

Is delayed payout an Anomaly or the Norm?

Has anybody actually just applied for unemployment benefits without experiencing delays?

If you apply as soon as your last paycheck was received and your termination wasn’t due to bad performance and wasn’t voluntarily, do most people start getting their first certified weeks fairly quickly?

I know Reddit usually has posts sharing issues and delays, but hoping that if you check off all the criteria that allows you to receive benefits and certify correctly, the delayed stories are anomalies and not the norm.

Unemployment and hearing

Hello all. I was approved for unemployment and received three payments. After those three payments, I received a determination letter than I’m ineligible due to “quitting my job”. I did not quit my job, my place of employment SHUT DOWN, and I worked until the very last day, so workplace/employee abandonment would not apply. My place of employment actually even stated that they would not contest any unemployment claims by any of us employees.

I guess my question is, how long is my “request a hearing” going to be in limbo waiting for an answer? I submitted it on June 8th. Also, how could I have been paid the first few weeks & then payments just abruptly stop? Also, will I have to appear in court inevitably, or could they possibly overturn the decision (ineligible —> eligible) without any hearing? I submitted evidence showing my place of employment shut down and that I did not quit along with my request that I submitted on June 8th

I’m in NYC if it makes any difference
