Highway driving (B)rake vs (D)rive mode

Since I bought my ID4 '24, I've always used B mode in both city and highway driving, but recently I started using D mode when I hop on the highway, what a difference! I feel the car behaves differently, I was never able find the right word until now, but driving in B mode on the highway feels like you're dragging a parachute, you always need to keep constant pressure on the pedal or you immediately lose speed, it's a bit annoying if you need to reposition your foot or if you turn off cruise control... In D mode when you reach crusing speed, it just GOES! it feels like the motor keeps pushing instead of dragging. Anyway I'm discovering a whole new driving style, I'm glad my ID4 still surprises me after 2 years of driving it 👍

‘Charging cancelled’

Twice now my iD3 has failed to charge overnight. I have an Ohme charger and have not had any issues previously having had the car nearly a year. The car would charge overnight no issues but two night in a row now it has failed to charge. When I try to override and use ‘Max Charge’ just to get some juice into it it looks as though it starts to charge but then just stops and the infotainment screen reads ‘charging cancelled’. Yesterday by pure luck I managed to get some charge into it using max charge but on every other occasion I’ve tried it does as above.
I’ve tried a factory reset of the car and also rebooted the charger. I’ve even removed the SB3 fuse and reinstalled it but no difference. Any ideas?

ID.3 Head-Up Display not showing any navigation information

Hello,

I got a new ID.3 (2026, latest software) recently with the head-up display included. However, when I drive it only shows the current speed and the same information that we have on the panel of the car.

Nothing about route guidance, arrow guide to turn, car detection or even the current road speed is displayed through the augmented reality.

I have enabled everything I could on the VW shop, the car is with the latest software and the account is the primary (and only) user of the car, created at registration. All the options are enabled on the Head-up display configuration.

Anyone else had this problem in the past? With google maps I have the arrows at least, but still missing all the cruise assistance and speed limit. With the native maps from VW, nothing is shown on the AR, except the "default" information.

Small button (?) under dash

Had the car from new for a few months but never noticed this before.

It’s under the dash, between the cup holder and hazard warning button.

What it it?

SOS Battery Issue

Hi all, ‘61 reg ID3 currently in to have the SOS warning light issue diagnosed. Car has an extended warranty from VW on it - they’re saying it’s probably just needing the battery swapping which wouldn’t be covered by warranty. Feels a bit 50/50 to me (under 5 years life on a lithium battery seems poor) - anyone had a similar experience?

UPDATE: thanks all for your messages. I stupidly should’ve checked here first, by the time you were all replying about the OBD solution I was already committed to potential diagnostic charges. However, they’ve agreed to pay all diagnostic and repair charge as the error came up immediately after an OTA update. Thanks to the commenter for pointing this bit out, saved us £300.

Does anyone recognize this rattling or knocking noise in a 2021 VW ID.3 Pro?

The noise mainly occurs at lower speeds, usually up to around 30–40 km/h, when driving over uneven roads or bumps and the suspension is moving. The car has already been checked by a workshop, but they were unable to identify or fix the cause. That's the reason why i am asking here.

It does not seem to depend on acceleration or braking. I was also able to reproduce it during stronger steering movements.

I first noticed it during very hot weather, although I’m not sure whether the temperature is actually related.

Has anyone experienced a similar noise or knows which suspension, steering or body component might cause it? Thaaank you all! :)

77kw Pro S Battery Recall

My car is a late 23 (facelift) Pro S included in the battery recall. Believe there are 2260 vehicles affected in UK. This is ID3 only, but understand ID4 and ID5 as well as ID Buzz models also effected.

Was contacted by VW UK in April asking me to contact local dealer to book car in. Had a booking for this week, but it’s been delayed by a couple of weeks because they’ve told me they need the car for 2 days. Got a courtesy car for the booking.

Would be nice if they could do it earlier, but understand they are looking at a lot of vehicles alongside usual service work. Also all covered free of course and I’ve asked them to replace the peeling steering wheel under warranty at the same time.

Interested to hear if anyone has had this work done? How did it go? How long did it take? Did they replace any battery modules? Is new software noticeably different at all? How was the dealer experience?

Buying used, extended warranty question.

As the title says I just paid for a 22 plate id3 from VW dealership which I'm picking up in the next few days. They have sent an email offering one year extra for £499 up to three years for 899. This seems pretty steep and as it's the most money I've ever spent on something not house related but I believe they prey on the overly cautious like this. Is it worth it in anybody's opinion? Don't want to throw money away if I don't have to. The mileage is 37000 btw.

ID3 - Warranty nightmares

I purchased an ID3 in May 25. Second day of ownership it had a fault (see video)

It went away for 2 months and they replaced J840 along with SX7 and SX8.

The same error pattern reoccurred four months later, it took six weeks to decide it needs to go to a battery competency centre and once there (for 2 1/2 months) they did a software update (3.8.4) and claimed it fixed it.

Yes you are reading that correctly, I had four months without my car for them to update the software to a minor version.

I've had it back a a week and it's doing the exact same thing again. (Shock)

Has anybody had anything similar or got any advice? I'm at the end of my tether.

Parts from AliExp

Did anyone order headlights from AliExpress? Would you trust the parts from there? My left headlights indicator is very weak and not much visible. I was wondering if I can get a new set from AliExpress.
Thanks

Weird steering noise.

Hi,

Ever since the heat started i sometimes hear this weird noise when coming out of a turn and then steering to the centre.

It sounds a bit like a phone buzz.

Exactly like in this youtube video i found.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=iWHI1\_RSshg

Anyone knows if the heat could cause it or if something is actually broken?

Its an id3 1st from 2020. With 170k km

Picking up a used 2021 ID3 on Friday, any tips or tricks, things I should know?

As the title suggests.

I'm moving from a VW polo into a used ID3 through a dealership. I test drove it and enjoyed it thoroughly but is there anything to look out for? Apparently the controls don't light up at night? I didn't drive it at night so couldn't see that obviously.

It also had the battery recall and was fixed, all the paperwork for that is present and it's just been serviced.

Shock leaking or weeping?

Dealership has identified both front shocks as leaking on my 2021 VW ID.3 with 47k miles. I've not noticed any issues when driving. Would appreciate a second opinion on whether this is a serious leak requiring replacement

New owner: tips and tricks?

Hi all,

Picked up my ID3 at start of week, coming from a BYD.

Any useful tips / tricks for me to know regarding the car and app? Tbh app seems quite basic compared to BYD one so concerned I may be using it wrong.

Thanks

No power/climate info in app

Hi folks!
Since a few days I’m a proud owner of a new (to me) ID3. Currently trying to get my head around all the settings etc.

In the app I don’t see the power and climate controls (I am set as the primary owner).

As a result I cannot see the SOC when charging, that’s annoying.

When I click on the power setting, the app prompts for a contract that needs to be in place (2nd photo).

When I click on that, there is no service I can choose apart from some data subscription.
The car appears to be online according to the infotainment system.

Is this a known problem? Any paid service I need for this?

cupra born dead stuck in software update for over a day

yesterday my newly bought used 2023 cupra born told me of an available update. It said that the update will take around about two hours. since I was at home and wasn't gonna use the car until much later, I locked everything and started the update. It has been twenty-four hours now, and the car is completely dead. anytime I try to unlock the car with the key fob, it just doesn't work. Only manually unlocking the driver door works. The screen shows that it is still updating and it may take a while. Nothing else in the car works.

Emailed cupra support, they replied with asking me to restart the car software by holding the power button for 10 seconds. I did that and it did absolutely nothing. Now waiting for reply from my car dealership. It's a nightmare. Why the hell did I agree to the update?

ID3 GTX Performance ESC

Hey fellow ID3 friends,
I ordered a used ID3 this monday and was confused about the ESC.
I saw that there is a ESC Sport setting but some posts also mention that in the SW version 5.4.3 they added the option to disable the ESC completely.
At least for the ID4.

Can someone tell me if this is also true for the ID3?
