Battery module replacement

Hi all,

My 22 plate ID3 (82K miles - it's an ex-taxi...) is currently in getting a battery module replaced under warranty. Had a yellow 'electric drive not working correctly' warning, even then it was mostly performing OK but then starting really eating battery this week (40% charge to go 40 miles!).

Looking online it seems module replacement is not uncommon. Anything in particular I should look out for once I get it back? Or should everything be all good?

thanks!

Air-conditioning turned itself on?

Not sure if it was a software update the week or just a thing that sometimes happens. But the air-conditioning was on. I dont use the air-conditioning, but one other person who hates the air-conditioning, rather irrationally, accused me of turning it on. Does it ever turn on on its own?

Water ingress to boot

Water has collected in the lower toolbox area of the boot. Today the car thought it was charging and had a cable plugged in when it didn’t have one attached. This appears to be an electrical issue as a consequence of water ingress. I’m currently drying everything out.

I would like help identifying the possible access points. Are there drains which could be blocked? Same questions for any grommets. If so where are they? I have checked the rubber boot seal which appears ok.

Helpful guidance appreciated.

Hello Friend!

Just took delivery of our brand new iD3 GTX Performance - Fire and Ice. Over the moon, we traded in our old iD3 (sad times) for this. So blessed to have it and we even found out it can massage us on the way home 😂😂 the colour is ultraviolet, it changes from dark to red and blue. Only 1990 made, still finding hidden Easter eggs the vw designers left for this edition all over the place.

Extended Warranty

Hi guys! Sorry if this question has already been asked.

My mum owns an id3 2023 and the factory warranty just ran out (still within the period for renewing to get an extended warranty). In your opinion, is the extended warranty worth it? We're debating if it is since it is still a relatively new car, what could break in a 3yo car that the warranty would cover? Are there common faults in the car that happen after 3 years?

The car was just at the garage for the infotainment system boot loop recall update and it got us thinking how much potential repairs could cost. If you have this issue, reach out to your local VW garage and check if yours is under recall.

Thanks for any information!

Question about the best smartphone for the upcoming ID 3 neo

Hey there ! I'm new to this community, soon abandoning my Golf 7 Trendline 85 CV (13 years old and 213 000 km) for an ID 3 Neo, which i just ordered.

I was considering also changing my old Iphone for a new one, but was wondering if it should be preferable to buy instead a Samsung phone. Given that the new Innovision software will be (just like the current one i guess) based upon Android system, do you think it would be more convenient and "compatibility friendly" to skip Apple on this one ? Any guess or thoughts regarding you own experience with the ID3 are very welcomed. Thanks !

Ida

Despite having an ID3 for 9 months, I have never used IDA, because I was happy I didn’t need it, but mostly because I didn’t know what it could do.

Do people use it, and what for ?

Air conditioning for departure

I really love this function. Though when it is cold, the car decides to turn on the steering wheel heating, which I hate. I am struggling to find a setting to turn it off anywhere on the app or in the clima menu...

My key didn't work today...

This morning I pressed the button on the fob to unlock my car. Nothing happened. Pressed it a few more times, still nothing. Took the manual key out of the fob, tried that... Nope! Very strange.

Went back to get the spare key. Tried both the button and the manual key. Nothing. Oh dear, I'm going to be late for work...!

Went back again to find the spare batteries. Opened the original fob cover, changed the battery, closed the fob, went back to the car.

Took a deep breath and pressed the button... Robert's your dad's brother, it worked! Bit peculiar that both manual keys didn't work though...

That is all. Have a good day.

P.S. I wasn't late for work. Phew!

Seeking Advice

Hi All,

Did anyone experience any problems with their indicator light (front LED light)? It seems that our one is almost gone. Only visible at night but not strong at all. Any advice on this? Is this salvageable? Or any third-party item?

We also have a problem with our rain sensor and charging door being stuck every now and then. Not sure if all these things are something to do with the electrical board or just unlucky.

ID3 1st Edition obd11 keyless auto-lock doesn't work

Hi. I used obd11 to enable locking when leaving the car. I used the provided app for it. The option appeared in the menu, I can enable/disable it, but it doesn't work, it doesn't lock the car. Other apps/settings have worked so far.

Is there any other setting to tweak(adaptation) that could help?

If not, this just an FYI post so other users don't lose 50 credits. As far as I understand obd11 support isn't really open to refund credits if the targeted functionality doesn't work.

Terrible Audio System

I drive an ID.3 1st Plus, and the audio system with only two front speakers is terrible. I’ve already read that retrofitting the rear speakers is extremely complicated. Is there any other solution? (Wireless maybe?)

Charging flap won't open.

I got my ID3 back yesterday. It was away for a few months with a battery issue. This is the second time. The first time took over 7 months.

The car had been charged to 50% so enough to do a few errands before going home. I was too tired to charge last night but attempted to this morning.

The charging flap won't open. I've been opening and closing the car. Going inside the car and locking it and attempting unsuccessfully to get out without using the key fob (this seems dangerous if I park somewhere for an errand whilst passengers are in). I have also tried using the manual release inside the boot but even pulling with enough force to cause significant pain to my fingers does not open it.

I'm waiting on a mechanic now. I have access to a granny charger and will be here for hours 'if' the mechanic can get it to open.

Low energy consumption

I often drive from Brussel to Luxemburg and the distance is no issue if I follow the speed limit.

Today I wanted to test what happened if I drove fully with cruise control, here is the result.

I’m usually around 18-20kwh/100km, because I drive it like a normal car.
This time I was surprised that it was low. 15.6 kwh/100km

Infotainment switching off

I have a 2020 low mileage id.3 that I bought just a few months ago. It has been a lovely car to drive. It behaves very strangely today with the infotainment screen going into the clock mode, Bluetooth music stops playing. A couple of times it rebooted while driving - showed the VW logo etc.

Any ideas?

Rear wheel with center bolt, how do I open it?

I finally had time to switch to summer tires, but surprised to see a bolt in the center of the wheel. And I only realised this after I changed the front wheels, which don't have such bolt in the center, only the regular 5.

The biggest hole on my lug wrench is 32, and it doesn't fit. And this doesn't look hexagonal either. Anyone knows how can I open this? What's the tool name, and which size do I need?

Tips for cooling the backseat area?

Car's been checked, no problem with A/C but I can't seem to cool the backseat area without me freezing. My family was literally sweating while I had the A/C on and being in the driver's seat I feel it fully.
