Base size for gryph hounds

Hi all. I bought three gryph hounds on eBay (just to paint - great models!). However, they came without bases. The listing stated this but I didn't read it properly (doh). What size base do standalone gryph hounds use? I'd like to try to source the correct size, really.

Problems updating from 2.3.0 - is this going to be a headache??

Hi all, I posted previously that my 2021 ID3 was being updated at a VW dealership (UK) following various faults with the HUD and infotainment system. I bought it from a non-VW dealer 16 months ago, not realising it was on an old software (2.3.0). I then discovered the car was subject to a recall notice on the software a few years ago (which previous owner did not respond to). Now, the VW dealer is telling me there is a technical problem preventing the update and they don't know what the problem is. They are in contact with VW in Germany to try to resolve. Has anyone else had this problem? I'm anxious because we really stretched ourselves to buy this car (and we love it) but with it being out of warranty could this be a costly problem? Or, because it has arisen as a result of a recall notice, will VW cover the cost themselves. Anyone willing to put my mind at rest??!

Clarks shoes for plantar fasciitis (UK)

Hi all, a few years ago I bought smart shoes for work from Clarks that were great for PF. They had good arch support, were comfy and not too pricey. I can't recall what they were called but Clark's don't seem to do them anymore. Has anyone bought Clarks shoes for PF more recently? Any recommendations? Thanks in advance.

Time to update software

Hi all. Long story short, we bought an ID3 about 16 months ago. Things went wrong with the HUD and infotainment system and it turned out the previous owner hadn’t followed a recall on the software (version 2.3,0). Today I took it to a VW dealer (in the uk). They just rang and said it could take several days to do the update because it’s huge!!! I know it’s Friday afternoon but still…. Have other people had this experience? This update couldn’t be done over the air. Do subsequent updates take as long?

UPDATE: well, all my fears about hi-tech cars have been realised (I won't tell you how old my last car was, which I traded in last year for our first EV). Just had a phonically from dealer to say master technician has been having difficulties since Friday updating the software. It is now Tuesday. They are trying to correspond with VW in Germany about it. The update hasn't even started yet. So, they've granted me a courtesy car if it's not resolved by tomorrow! I love the car but I was anxious that something like this would happen and that, with it being out of warranty, it would cost me a lot to fix. We'll see...

Does solar PV still provide power to the house in the event of a power cut?

Hi all. UK household. Satisfy my curiosity please (and indulge my ignorance). We have 4kw of panels (and sun on them currently). Our village just had a brief power cut but we weren't affected. I thought we would have a power cut because of the consumer unit and its relationship to the grid. Is this not the case?

Depreciation percentages of EVs in the UK

I asked Claude AI to compile me a graph of the depreciation percentages of the top 10 selling EVs in the UK over a 3 year timespan. This was the result. Any of this surprise anyone? I was surprised to see Leaf at the bottom on the basis of it having been around a long time (compared to other less-proven models).

In praise of the tube compressor

I play clean (jazz). I have been playing around with the Fender Princeton amp model and found it a bit meh! I didn’t think it was a good representation of how an actual Princeton would sound. Then, I added the tune compressor and - wow - what a difference! It just sings now!

Anthony Wilson's tone is sublime

I know tone comes from lots of places simultaneously (and I don't know what amp he's using) but the tone in this tele is fabulous. He's playing in the neck PU but it's not a humbucker (don't know what it is either). This surprises me as his tone is so full.

Guitar cables

Hi all. Any recommendations for guitar cables that preserve the tone of my tele? I don't go for the twangy tele sound as such. I play jazz with a HB on the neck, so it's a different sound (in the manner of Frisell, Lage, Ed Bickert). Basically, I'm looking for a good quality cable that doesn't alter the tone of the guitar.

Panasonic SD-2500 Start button not working

Hi all, as title suggests, I choose the bread from the menu. The start button is flashing but does nothing when I press it, hold it down or anything. It's a few years old so I'm guessing the button is broken. Has anyone self-repaired this, or tell me whether it's worthwhile getting it repaired? UK based. Thanks in advance!

State of public chargers near Skye

Quite dismayed by the state of public charging up near Skye in Scotland. Drove our EV up here from Newcastle on holiday. Was fine until we got near Skye. It’s not that there aren’t chargers - there are. It’s that most of them don’t work or are intermittent. Companies are investing in the charger infrastructure but their unreliability is disappointing. That clearly needs to improve as more drivers turn to electric.

Does anyone on here use an OBD2 dongle in the UK?

As title. Does anyone have any recommendations? Seem to be quite a few out there. Nothing super pricey, just something to keep me going for a few weeks until the dealer can take my car and fix the HUD/infotainment.

My fuse box looks different to the diagram found online

As title says - I've attached a photo of my fuse box and a link to a diagram for my age ID3 (2021). The fuse I'm looking to pull is no.46 (infotainment / HUD) which - according to diagram is 10a. However, my photo shows that position fuse to be a 7.5amp. Any ideas? I don't want to pull the wrong one!!!

Warnings and information unavailable. Drive carefully.

Help! Give me your best fixes for this. I’ve locked the car and left it a quarter of a mile away for a day so it resets. No change. Doesn’t affect performance but the display is limited in use.

Best Octopus tariff for overnight on granny charger

Hi. With Octopus I charge my EV overnight slowly using a granny charger. I do have solar PV but, because the car is at work during the day, mostly I export. I’m Due to change tariffs later this month. Which tariff might work out cheapest for this? Is Agile the way forward? Are there limits as to how much energy you can draw in off-peak periods? Can I still export with PV on Agile? Thanks in advance for people’s experience.

Web certificate issue - SMA inverter

Hi all, trying to reconnect our SMA inverter after change of router and encountering problem following their video instructions. On iPhone I changed WiFi setting to find the inverter (as instructed) then went to the IP address 192.168.12.3 (as instructed) but can get no further. iPhone warns me connection is not private or certificate may be invalid and won’t let me carry on. Clicking on ‘visit this website’ does nothing. Anyone got a solution?

Charging in Scotland

Going to take our first EV driving holiday to Scottish Highlands this Summer, travelling from NE England as far as Skye. Seems to be plenty of chargers along the way (west Scotland) but becoming more sparse as you head further North. Does anyone have any advice (or encouragement) for this trip? Fairly rangy ID3.
