Honestly, the teardown is half the fun for me 😎
Stock power had a good run… time to wake this beast up 😤—— What motor esc did you choose for ur TRX-4?
By far easiest motor upgrade ive done to date
A little down low-weight to help the Fusion Pro put the power down 😎
Hobby store didnt have the inners in stock so ill get them another time
Turning rainy-day boredom into RC race day 🏁📦🔥 Built a quick indoor course from whatever was around and sent the little rig flying. 😎 Who else builds indoor tracks when the weather kills the outdoor session?
14303 - next test phase
Lots of fun getting this tested again with the new roll cage prototype. Sits a little funky but definitely loving it. Stripped something in the rear diff so get to go inside and see what's up.
Redcat Ascent 32 Finished
I put this together from just parts I bought. I figured I wouldn’t use much from a RTR version, so I picked up everything I wanted for the truck.
She’s definitely tiny. The wood is a challenge for it, but it’s doing its thing.
It’s running on 3S, but it’s fully manageable power for it with the Mofo brushless. I thought it would be fun to assemble one of these. They look so raggedy in the stock form, so I figured I’d try to tame it and also get some steering power that works while I’m at it.
The servo is an Injora micro 7kg servo. It’s tight in the chassis, so I widened it a bit to allow it to move with the axle. I couldn’t find a mount for the servo that fit this truck and servo. I now have three servos that I put in this thing. The ones that fit a mount made for the truck are lower voltage.
I installed an adjustable BEC for them, but then there’s even more wiring inside the body, and it’s quite limited on space. So, I cut the ears off the servo, used epoxy on a printed tray that I picked up. The servo is pretty much forever stuck to the tray now.
The Mofo brushless is pretty nice for this truck. It’s plenty fast, but it’ll absolutely creep well too.
I had bought a set of the stock wheels and tires because I wasn’t sure when the Meus wheels would arrive from Japan or wherever. While the RC4WD tires fit those rims, they would constantly come off. Since I had beadlock wheels coming, it wasn’t worth gluing them. There’s a good improvement over stock with the IROK tires.
Painting this little truck was purely trifling. I figured I’d keep it simple, but simple in this tiny body was still a challenge with taping everything.
All in all, it’s a pretty cool truck even though it’s so small. I don’t know that I’d ever buy another vehicle smaller than 1/18 scale though. I’ll try it outside later on, but I’m predicting that anything and everything will be an obstacle for it.
The articulation is minimal, but I kinda figured it would be, given how short the shock travel is. I may try longer shocks down the road. I’ll probably also add a little more weight on top of the steering servo as well. There’s not really many more spots to add unsprung weight. I don’t really want to put weight inside the front tires.
Hopefully, this helps inspire someone to buy a bunch of parts, and enjoy some assembly time. No instructions required.
Ben thinking about doing this for a while now.. put apex bed on
Looking for a better way to bring multiple 1/10 rigs out on trail days. Anyone have experience with one of these, or another setup you swear by?
My Apex is definitely the favorite child in my RC family.
Red cat Scout II brushed
I keep this one stock as a good base line. Out of the box it preformed really well, fast enough, and pretty realistic. I got mine one sale for $120 what a deal
