Not 100% finished, still have some decorations to do and to add padding on the inside.
Its not flawless, but all in all Im satisfied with the result

Idk if there are any other Irish reenactors here, but I’d there are I hope ye had a nice time at Boyne Valley, regardless of the weather.
Giant turkey legs were harmed in the making of these photos.
A portrait of a rugged, muscular Viking
A portrait of a rugged, muscular Viking warrior with intricate tattoos across his chest and arms. He has long, braided hair and a thick beard, appearing battle-worn with dirt-smudged skin. He sits contemplatively on a rocky shoreline next to a small campfire. In the background, a traditional wooden Norse hut stands before a dramatic landscape of snow-capped mountains and a dark, moody sky.
Rune translation
Over the years I have tried to learn the translation or meaning of Elder Futhark and Younger Futhark. The main problem is keep coming across is different sources claiming different translations or meanings to the same rune. What is the best source for finding this information?
Viking Staff Runes
I found this sick piece of driftwood (think Gandalf the Grey's staff) that I want to turn into a staff with heavy Viking themes/flair. It's got open space at the top to put some sort of crystal into it with plenty of room for leather straps, metal rings, and all kinds of epic stuff. One idea I had was to inscribe/carve runes down the sides.
But I have literally no idea which ones to use, or in what order, or anything like that. It wouldn't be a warrior staff (Vikings may not have even used them as weapons anyway), so any resources anybody has that I might use? I don't want it to look stupid and I don't want people to look at the runes and be like "Uh...these are wrong/incorrect/dumb".
Wisdom type content would be pretty cool, or even just straight up references to the Gods would suffice. Any thoughts or help provided would be neat or links to resources. After I'm done I may share the final result! It'll get used often with all the Viking/LARP events I go to.
Thanks in advance!
Edit: Oh, I did post this in r/Norse and r/RuneHelp but the post was insta-removed so I'm trying my luck here.
getting into viking history
I recently started getting really interested in Viking history after watching a few videos and reading random stuff online. What surprised me most is how different real Vikings seem compared to how movies show them.
If you could go back and spend one day in the Viking age, what would you actually want to see the most?
Recently found gold sword scabbard fitting, 6th Century AD, Norway [2800x2000]
A hiker recently found a 1,500-year-old gold sword scabbard fitting in Sandnes, Norway. The sword it was mounted on likely belonged to an important chieftain.
I made a charcoal drawing of the Gokstad ship.
While drawing it, I used Arne Emil Christensen’s sketches from the Norsk Maritimt Museum as a reference. I am not an archaeologist; I am trying to understand the craftsmanship and engineering logic of people from the past. No AI, hand-drawn.
