The Thomson-Houston Electric Company was one of the most important electrical companies of the late 1800s and helped shape the future of modern power systems in America. Formed in 1883, the company specialized in electric lighting and power transmission during the early rise of electricity. It became known for its innovation in generators, transformers, and street lighting systems, helping cities transition from gas lamps to electric power. In 1892, Thomson-Houston merged with Edison General Electric to create what would become General Electric, making it a major piece of American industrial history.
