I have Green Bays 103-year-old community cookbook

I found this at a thrift store for probably under $10. I forgot I had it until I was packing to move. Has a ton of torn pages, some even completely ripped out, or some that people shoved in to get their recipe out there.

Thought I'd share a piece of GB history with you all, this probably has to be one of my favorite antique items I own.

Old Cookbooks gifted to me

A patron of my food history classes at the local library gifted me these three great vintage cookbooks.

This is my oldest copy of Joy in my collection (1953). I have never come across the Farm Journal’s Country Cookbook (1972) but it looks like it has some good recipe. And “The I Hate to Cook Book” (1960 ) is also new to me but it looks to be an entertaining book.

I will post more in detail soon with some of these!

“Pour an Easy Rum Party!” - 50 yr old Puerto Rican Rum recipe booklet

Rums of Puerto Rico published this recipe booklet in 1976…. discovered in my parents’ basement bar.

Rums of Puerto Rico is a collective marketing program started in 1948 to increase PR rum sales in the U.S. (and continues to this day).

I may be brave enough to try the Marshall Dillon (rum, red wine and white wine).

Lots of amusement and potential…

If there’s interest, I’ll share the other pages with more cocktail and food recipes.

I bought a 1980s woman’s weekly cooking book for 50 cents at Flemington markets today and I’m currently duelling my 8 year old to pick a page.

The book is called “Low Fat Cooking”.

MIGUEL'S COCINA

This little spiral was found at the bottom of a basket in a thrift store. I'm glad I took the time to dig through the pile.

50 cents, well spent. 🙂

Two related recipes are included in this post. Apparently, their tortillas are a big deal, but the recipe for them is not in this book. I have included two recipes from the book that I think you will enjoy - Jalapeno White Sauce, and Primavera!

Clarita’s Cocina

This book was gifted to me by my mom when I first moved out of their house in my early twenties. It was her bible of Cuban cooking. The writer was the famous Las Novedades Restaurant in Ybor City, Tampa.
I still use it and is well worn.
