[SOTC] My collection over the years…

Bored on the fourth and thought it might be fun to share a newfound obsession. I’ve only caught the bug the past 6 months but always worn some kind of watch since late schooling. As an endurance athlete there’s been a few years where that watch was a Garmin but now she’s reserved only for strenuous activity 😀

Left to right -

2016ish, a steel Casio A158W I bought from probably Targé or somewhere that I wore for most of my college years. I remember buying it because I wanted a bit of a pop with my stressed engineering school flip flop jeans and tee shirt outfits. Love it, great memories, still had plenty of beer money left over and other important college funds (coffee)

2018, recent graduate and wanted something a bit of a step up to wear to my first adult job. Hadn’t really done much research except for looks and my eye caught the Timex Weekender and there was magic right away. Picked it up off of Amazon when they were selling them in spades. Loudest ticking in the world.

Around 2019 I lost my way (jokes) and got really into cycling. I read watch and bike CJ in case this gets cross posted (looking forward to it). In an endless effort to be a mediocre middle aged woman in Lycra (MAWIL) some day, I started wearing my Garmin most days until 2025.

2025, the Weekender returns to being my daily. My friends comment on it - actually no that’s not true I obnoxiously tell everyone I’m sick of screens given I see them at my job and during all my rides / runs that I don’t want to see them anymore. Definitely nobody asked me either I just told them

Spring 2026, I’ve been fortunate to have made a nice career for myself and was recently trying to dress a bit nicer. I don’t wear flip flops to works but still a jeans and tee gal. For my 30th, picked up a quartz Cartier Tank Must. I was between her and the Louis - I decided to go with Must as the guilloche wasn’t enough for me to justify and I have no regrets. I adore this watch and wear it every single day that is not a rainy day.

Spring 2026, recently enthused, I quickly start scouring watch forums to figure out what I should buy next. I didn’t understand any of what I was reading and I think I just wanted to spend money - quartz always seemed fine to me, I was always picking by looks and occasionally by story (the Tank story got me). But a friend had a Tissot so I wanted one, and that’s how I ended up with my Tissot PR100 34 mm with a green dial. This is the watch I now wear when I don’t wear my Tank - I also love it!

I decided to pause. This is gonna be a lifelong hobby. I got four more slots for now!

Everything is quartz - I feel I will try an automatic someday but who’s to say. I’ve now done my research and planning to tie future purchases to life milestones. For kicks though I’ve got a wishlist - Nomos Campus Club, IWC Ingenieur 35MM with the Aqua dial, a JLC Reverso Tribute Duoface. If I win the lottery, VC222 in YG but that’s just a dream and not something I plan to do

Thanks for reading :-) for extra kicks here is my horological masterpiece - Garmin Forerunner 245, it’s been on cross country bike adventures and many multi hour trail runs/hikes. That’s a true tool watch, a true GADA , and even a strap monster or so they say

What to do to free up space?

My collection since starting in 2021. Thinking of getting rid of the Tissot GMT Black/Green and the Bulova Mil Ships. I never wear them anymore. Thoughts on where to offload them? Any recommendations on what’s missing?

America 250

Ordered this Timex Desktop Watch. Came in yesterday. Really like it. I don’t have a desk, but hey. Who cares. Shinola for size reference. Shinola is 40ishmm, I actually forgot its exact size, but the desk watch is 49mm but that’s the case size.

[Casio] Resurrecting My Original DW-5600 mod 901 - My 9th Birthday Gift

My DW-5600 module 901 was given to me by my late father on my 9th birthday, more than 35 years ago.

It was on my wrist when my baby sister was born (she just had her second baby), the first time I kissed a girl, when I learned to drive, the first time I flew a fighter jet (and many missions thereafter), the day I got trapped underwater on a dive in a cenote, my honeymoon, my divorce, and almost every beat day on the farm I managed for a decade.

Last night, I gave her a much-deserved update.

I own several great watches. But I’d give every one of them up for this old Casio. Some things just choose us.

Winding Up for Summer Freedom: My American-Based Microbrand Watch Collection

Probably my largest “collection within a collection” is my American-based Microbrand collection pictured. I probably have a few more, but the models pictured are my favorites and carry at least some uniqueness or prominence to each individual brand within the microbrand space.

Ahead of the holiday weekend, I thought it was the perfect time to share and discuss. Let me know your thoughts, favorite American-based watches, and ideas for future additions! r/WatchChapters

SOTC Here's my current collection.

I've always loved the look of watches, but I only this year have really started wearing a watch daily.

Watch Strap Suggestions for Markwell Hard Candy: Open to all ideas

Love the watch, but not so sure about the rubber strap. I feel like this could even be a dressier type watch if presented right. Ideas for a different strap-style, material, color? Looking for ideas!

[Skeleton Watches] Bare Bones Brilliance or Dead Trend Walking?

I feel like my interest in skeleton-type watches peaked about 10 years ago and since I haven’t had much interest despite the rise in “RM” style watches which also often spark debate.

I received the Stuhrling pictured as a gift many years back now, and got the Ciga Design around the holidays one year at an ultra discounted price. Whats funny is I almost always get compliments (from probably non-watch people) if I ever decide to throw them on the wrist. Both tick remarkably well and the Ciga Design is actually pretty thin compared to other Tonneau style skeletons in its price range.

Still for me, I almost completely pass over skeletons when browsing and pay almost no attention to them despite the varying styles- open heart, full skeleton, tonneau, etc. Unless convinced differently, I’ll pass on them. Where do you land? r/WatchChapters

[SOTC] Dive Watches for the Summer Heat

This is more of a collection inside of a collection for me, but with unseasonably hot temps this week in my area, I figured I would share my current divers.

Divers are funny for me because I never actively seek them out, but based on the picture below, I guess I have been subconsciously attracted to them over the years. I’m the first to admit, I am in no way a diver, but the waterproof watches do come in handy for the summer water activities.

I would love to see your favorite dive watches! r/WatchChapters

[Opinion] MOP Dials. Cool or pass?

What’s everyone’s opinion on mother-of-pearl dials? I think they can be ok but it’s really watch dependent. I have the 2 above in my own collection that are vastly different interpretations of the MOP dial. The black Islander I acquired for a specific mini-collection purpose that I discussed here: https://www.reddit.com/r/WatchChapters/s/nvx1b6n9j0

I bought the Zelos Swordfish Scarlet on a great deal and wasn’t sure what to make of it at first, but it always somehow sneaks its way into my rotation. The mosaic dial is interesting, but I think I enjoy wearing it because it’s a really well-made watch all around.

Does anyone else have MOP dials in their collection or is it an automatic no?
