Whole Washington's Gala was a hit this weekend!

We had over a hundred people meet up in West Seattle to celebrate, network and raise money for universal healthcare.

The event featured rousing speeches from Seattle Mayor Wilson, Rep. Scott (LD 43) and Rep. Parshley (LD 22).

Thank you to everyone who attended, supported, and/or donated!

Why is health care in Olympia so bad?

I can't tell if I am trapped in my own personal hell, if Olympia specifically has terrible healthcare, I'm going to the wrong places, or this is just normal for the medical system in general?

I've had horrible experiences with OBGYN offices here, terrible urgent care experiences and my boyfriend has been through the ringer with his epilepsy and seeing neurologists in Olympia. I am baffled. Does anyone else have this issue?

He developed epilepsy and had a really great female neurologist at Capital Medical Center but it took months to get in even with him having tonic clonic seizures they acted like he was faking or lying to try to be seen sooner. Finally he started medication and was seeing her, then suddenly she left and he was never notified of his canceled appointment until he showed up to the office! Then, they said they'd have to treat him like a new patient and wait more months to be seen by their male neurologist. NOW that guy is gone and capital neurology is just closed? And again, no notice was sent to us until their entire department shut down.

My boyfriend finally got into Providence Neuro on lily RD earlier this year, and his neurologist there is great, but the office is horrible! They constantly mess up how his appointments get billed among other issues, and today he got a call where the person talked him in circles about him not having a referral and needing one, he's been going there for months! He's currently titrating off one med and onto a new one and she said they won't see him for his appointment in June unless he gets a new referral AND claimed he needs a new referral from a PCP for every single appointment in their office. I called their referral line and this lady had no idea what the other one was talking about, and that his referral is still active and he has 3 more appointments on it before it expires and he'll need a new one and told me not to worry he's totally fine to come in for his June appointment. These are only a FEW examples of the medical care issues I've personally seen in the past 4 years in Olympia and I am so confused! Is this normal for everyone to go through?

An adjacent issue for universal healthcare: Hawaii just countered Citizens United

I know this sub is dedicated to universal healthcare in WA, but this likely intersects with many of our beliefs. If a state-level political org arose to get rid of corporate personhood, I know I would be on board.

Here’s a site I found that tracks where all states are at. As you can see, we have a long way to go. I filled out the interest form for WA though!

Encourage your local legislators and candidates to sign the Patients over Profits pledge! This campaign by National Nurses United and Graham Platner is the most recent high profile signee!

So many Washington State candidates have already signed the pledge this year! Help us recruit more!

The Pledge calls on politicians to reject campaign contributions from the executives, lobbyists, and PACs affiliated with the corporate health care industry, including private insurers, pharma corporations, and private hospitals who are organizing to take over our health care system. The pledge is supported by a broad coalition of organizations dedicated to working on health care justice.
