Sean Ryan insisted Russ Salvatore do his fireworks show directly above City Hall - when told it wasn't safe, he refused to do it at Canalside instead

Ryan told 2 On Your Side that restauranter and philanthropist Russ Salvatore had agreed to pay for downtown fireworks and had lined up a pyrotechnics company to conduct the show.

According to Ryan, the vendor had concerns about launching the fireworks from the vicinity of City Hall and Niagara Square, where the show was envisioned to take place.

"The fireworks vendor started raising real questions about, you know, when you put these fireworks up, canisters drop down," Ryan said.

Mayor Ryan noted some of the concerns regarding falling debris from fireworks is allayed when they are launched from Canalside.

"When they do them from Canal side, they're going to launch the fireworks a barge in the river," he said.

When asked if the city couldn't have done the same thing, the mayor replied, "I didn't want to do them on the barge in the river because we're already doing them August 2 on the barge in the river."

Russ Salvatore offered to pay for July 4th fireworks downtown, but Sean Ryan said no

As America is celebrating its 250 anniversary, one city which will not be sponsoring a Fourth of July fireworks display is the City of Buffalo.

The news was confirmed by Mayor Sean Ryan's press office on Tuesday.

The announcement comes as somewhat a surprise due to Ryan telling reporters just weeks ago, "for the first time in a generation the city of Buffalo will be bringing fireworks back to downtown Buffalo," adding, "events like these are important."

The mayor's press office said no one was available to answer questions about the decision not to host a fireworks display.

---

One of them will be put on by restauranteur and philanthropist Russ Salvatore at the Patriots and Heroes Memorial Park on Transit Road near the Thruway which Salvatore built next to his hotel and restaurant.

---

The currently cash strapped city made no mention of money being the issue as to why it wasn't hosting a fireworks display this year,

"With the new mayor today I couldn't get any cooperation down there. But, I still had to get it done," said Salvatore, in explaining why decided to hold what he promises to be a spectacular fireworks display starting at 10 pm Saturday, July 4.

Longtime ECDC stooge Ken Kruly says Adam Bojak will lose to a Republican in November

Reflecting on Bojak's impressive 16-percentage point victory over Hoak, Kruly said, “Bojak did very well in the primary. But that district, 45% of which is in Hamburg, is a little more conservative. The guy running against him (Republican Hamburg town board member) Frank Bogulski is a very flamboyant lawyer, and he'll go after that socialist stuff. He'll have a field day with him."
