My friend challenged me to a fight even though I’ve never wrestled

Me and my friend are both 16. My friend who had quite abit of wrestling experience challenged me to a wrestling fight. He weighs about58 -65kg being skinny while I weigh around 70-75kg. The only experience I have is a year of boxing and that I go gym. I’d say I’m much bigger (muscle wise) than him and that some of my strengths in the gym are 100kg bench 35kg dips for reps, 80kg squat, 15kg weighted pull-ups ect. My friend didn’t expect me to accept so now he is trying to lighten it up if he looses saying that I weigh more and it’s embarrassing if I loose. Can someone give me some tips on how I can win, doesn’t have to be any moves but just how I can over power him in strength. Thanks.

Which fall spirt should i pick?

Ok so ive got a lot to consider here.

My main sport is wrestling but i dont want to just do a spring wrestling club, id like to branch out in a way that will still get me into good shape and build a strong base for my junior year of wrestling. Ive narrowed the fall season down to crosscountry and football. On one hand i know that both sports have really strong senses of community which i like, but i think football might have more of the sort of connection i want. On the other hand my ex does xc at another school and i kindof want to avoid her. (Thats a whole other story)

The major thing that needs to be broken is this:

Football i think will have a lot more explosive training and some good cardio that i think will carry into wrestling incredibly well

Crosscountry however has alot more of endurance i think which will do very well in wrestling. Plus the leg muscles ill build will probably help me keep a low stance without fatiguing. Im worried the cardio wont carry over as well into wrestling since its more slow pace over long time as opposed to wrestling which is a little more like sprinting?

Im really not an expert on xc or football so if you have any input on how they might carry over to wrestling PLEASE lmk

how do you actually get stronger for wrestling

i've been wrestling for a few months now and i keep getting bullied by guys who aren't even more skilled than me. They're just way stronger. I can get to a leg or get an underhook but then they just stand up or rip their arm free like i'm not even there. my technique feels right but my strength can't keep up. I heard that rope climbing is the best thing for grip strength. I've been doing 5x5 for a few weeks but honestly it hasn't helped much on the mat yet. maybe i need more explosive work.

1935 Wrestling Match Advertisement Found

I own a home in Houston, Texas that was built in 1939. We're in the middle of an extensive renovation when we found this advertisement in the attic. According to google, the match occurred here in Houston on January 4, 1935. What I find interest is that, given the year the house was built, someone was holding onto this ad for at least 5 years so it must have been somewhat special to them. Let me know if anyone can make out what is written at the bottom.

According to google, this fight ended in a time limit draw.

EDIT: I've been since informed that this fight likely occurred on September 14, 1934

Feet pain

So when I wrestle more than twice a week I start getting pain on muscle below my feet. I wanna be able to get to a point where I can wrestle 4-5 week no feet pain. The coach told me to spam single leg calf raises and seated calf raise in the gym and use ball to massage feet. Is that legit? Or any other advice for it. For context I (20m) walk around at 100kg, but compete at 91kg (have done few freestyle matches so far); also currently do 4 sessions at mma gym, like bjj or mma; 2 full body weights day, 3 running days. I know I can rest and what not but I don’t give af, I am addicted to training.

Question about points in freestyle wrestling

In freestyle wrestling, if I secure a rear-standing position (behind my opponent) and they lift and throw me (while i already take his back), but I manage to maintain my grip and stay behind them, and land on my knees while keeping control who gets the points and how many?

Fargo coaching question for elite girls wrestler

As we all know in girls wrestling, the relationship between athlete and coach can be a huge factor at major events.
I have an athlete who is soon to be ranked nationally and #1 in our state, and she really wants me in her corner at Fargo.
My question is: if I’m not selected as an official state team coach, what realistic options exist for still coaching her at Fargo?
Can athletes ever compete with another state team if both sides agree? Has anyone gone through this process before? Are there ways to still get floor credentials without being one of the official coaches?
Not trying to create drama with our state association — just trying to figure out the best situation for the athlete and hear from people who have dealt with this before.
Would appreciate any insight from coaches, parents, or athletes with Fargo experience.

What would be a parry?

(I’ve only wrestled 2 years, folk style, I don’t know any big moves)

so recently I’ve had a question in my head that I couldn’t answer until recently: what would be a parry

so we know that a block, is a block what else do I have to say

Some sort of ult would be a low percentage move like a suicide cradle or flying squirrel

a perfect dodge is just a really smooth counter or escape of some sort

but what’s a parry? after a while of thinking all I could come up with is a crucifix from a peterson, I need a second opinion

with this said could you say a riposte is blocking a shot then shooting?

The Rise of Year-Round Wrestling in Florida

I honestly think year-round wrestling has changed high school wrestling more than anything else over the last decade.
The gap between athletes who only wrestle during school season and the kids training freestyle, Greco, national duals, camps, and offseason tournaments year-round is getting bigger every year.
You especially see it now in girls wrestling.
A lot of female wrestlers in Florida are improving incredibly fast because they’re no longer waiting for school season to train. They’re traveling nationally, getting quality mat time in the offseason, and competing against tougher opponents year-round.
As a coach in South Florida, it’s been exciting watching the level continue rising locally. Kids who used to be nervous entering national events are now expecting to compete with anyone in the country.
The sport overall just feels way more advanced now than it did even 5–10 years ago.
Curious if coaches and wrestlers in other states are seeing the same thing.

Wrestling beginner tips.

I (17 f) weigh 126 pounds and I’m 5,5, i don’t have huge muscle mass but I’ve got a pretty good amount. I’ve been to wrestling workouts for about three weeks (I’ve never wrestled before) and coach said I could start playing next Friday to get some early off season points. Besides possibly being humiliated by being manhandled on a mat what are the pros and cons for starting early. And any tips you can give me for matches or just in general let me know! I will take all the help I can get.

I’m 23 and want to train in freestyle wrestling. Can I do it?

Hello everyone! Hope you’re all defeating your opponents.

My question is pretty simple and straightforward: Can I start training in freestyle wrestling at the age of 23?

I’ve always admired wrestling. Ever since I was a kid, I wanted to become a wrestler, but due to financial problems and academic responsibilities, I never had the chance to pursue it. Now I finally have a stable job and enough time to start training.

Do you think I can still make it? I’m not aiming to become a professional wrestler, but I do want to become really good at it and reach a high level of proficiency. The only thing is, I’ve never trained in any combat sport before. I also have an on-and-off relationship with the gym.

So, should I start?

How good is Bo Bassett truly?

After his performances at RAF, being undefeated and taking out National and Olympic champs, his run at the US Open, is it crazy to say that Bo Bassett is within the top 10 wrestlers at 65kg in the world right now? Is it crazy to say that Bassett is a contender for the world championships in September?
