How effective is yoga for building real strength and muscle compared to gym workouts?

I’ve been practicing basic yoga for a few months and noticed improved core strength, balance, and endurance. Can advanced yoga poses actually help build full-body strength, or should yoga mainly be combined with weight training for better results?

Why can I do side splits on both sides but not a full middle split?

As the title says I can pretty easily do the side splits on both my left and right side but struggle to reach full middle splits. Apparently there is no muscle or tendon that crosses the pelvis, so is this just neurological/psychological? Is there any exercise that would help make getting full splits easier?

I have dabbled with yoga, but I’ve made my mind up and intend to get serious. I need advice as to what I need to practice to get strong, hopefully advice from those with similar issues.

My title says most of it, but there’s a few more details. I had my baby three years ago via csection. Before pregnancy, I was in the best shape of my life, I was darn near having real ab definition😆 my body went out of whack after delivering my baby, and after three years, I’m about 15 lbs away from my pre baby weight.

I have SI joint issues and herniated discs. I need to get my core, glutes, and back strong so I can be the mom my daughter deserves. I’m not able to go to studios in my area, but I am able to do yoga at home through YouTube. So, my question is, what channel should I be watching, and what practices should I be doing? Any and all advice is SO appreciated!!

Thank you in advance!🙏🙏🙇‍♀️
