Hillman “Edutainment”
Did anyone else find themselves learning history and culture through this show? I have a list of a few that come to my mind, would love to hear from other fans.
- Nikki Giovanni's poem Ego Tripping, performed by Kim in “Mammy Dearest”.
-Alvin Ailey from Whitley’s dance composition in “a World Alike” when Julian first meets her.
-Lena Horne’s life moments when Whitley’s students did their performance in “A Rock, a River, a Lena” and the conversation she had with Mr. Gaines about the segregated military camps.
- Greek life from “it’s all Greek to me” and “sister to sister”. I was a child watching it and first time being exposed to those organizations.
