Is this normal? GSI Creos PS-270

Is this normal? GSI Creos PS-270

This is a brand new, just opened GSI Creos PS-270 Mr. Procon Boy WA Platinum. I have not used it with paint yet. There is a little brown dot inside the paint cup where the paint cup is welded to the body (just above the needle in the image). Researching a little, it may be the brass body not fully plated during chroming and Google AI says this can be common. I did some cross referencing because the AI had abstract sources. By looking at other photos of similar posts, I can't see anything that looks similar to this little dot.

I am new to this hobby and my first airbrush was the Sparmax MAX-3, so I am unfamiliar if this little dot on my new airbrush is fine or not. Advice?

Diagnostics I have tried:

Cleaning with Tamiya airbrush cleaner - it did not remove it, so I don't think it is factory oil residue.

Wiping a loose and dry cotton bud over it - no chrome flakes present, it did not feel like it was catching the cotton fibres.

Spraying airbrush cleaner through it was fine.

Nothing else has been sprayed through it.

Harbor Freight black widow/spectrum problem

I’m at my wits end trying to figure this out and it didn’t take me long to get there. As the title says I’m using a Harbor Freight black widow airbrush. I only use acrylic. I’ve been using a cheap avanti compressor. Up front, I haven’t always been diligent on cleaning it. Anyway, over time it’s been performing worse and worse..harder to get good flow, spattering of paint etc. Now when I put the nozzle and nozzle cap on it hardly blows any air much less paint. Take those off and it works fine. The nozzle, needle, and cap are all .5. I’m wondering if the issue could be those 3 holes and if there could be dried paint in there. Using my ear hole camera I can’t see any way to clean those from the back side.

So far, I’ve tried soaking it in alcohol, acetone, and boiling it in water. I’ve taken the little o-ring on the inside out when doing this. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Factory Glued Cap

Hello everybody.

I’m still a newbie and I have an annoying issue that I’m hoping more experienced folks can help with.

I have a brand new Timbertech AG-183K airbrush (it’s their “fancier” model, but still a cheap). I’ve added a couple pictures so you can get an idea of what I’m dealing with. Haven’t painted with at all yet, as I wanted to make sure everything was working okay. As I was testing out the trigger the needle kept sticking. So I take it mostly apart, cleaned the needle etc, reassembled, but started sticking again. So this time I took the nozzle caps off and realized that the issue is the head cap has been factory glued for shipping, and that glue has seeped down into the rubber washer (sorry I forget its real name) (EDIT: o-ring!) and into the nozzle itself, so the whole thing is stuck.

The little wrench it came with is already bent from my efforts, and I do have soft jaw pliers, but sadly they are to small. But I have other pliers I can cushen. However, I’m definitely not strong enough to break the seal. I think my dad could for me, but before I ask him I wanted to ask for advice if anyone has experience with this. Could I just soak the whole thing in cleaner or iso alcohol? Will this damage the rubber? Is there something else I could use to soak that won’t hurt anything? I’m really hoping to desolve the glue a bit before forcing and end up breaking the nozzle.

Any advice would be very appreciated! And please forgive any formatting issues and the wordiness.
Thanks!

Advice in air brushing a helmet

Hi All

My daughter is trying to airbrush her helmet. We got her some automotive paint and she spent ages on the painting. When she got to the clear 2k it didn't come out properly. I phoned the paint shop and they said that she was supposed to mix the paint 2:1 with the 2k. I was a bit angry that that didn't come up when we were there buying the equipment and asking for advice but anyway... I'm just asking for advice here before she takes all the paint off and starts again.

Is there no other option? Someone mentioned getting a clear coat mixed with the hardener and painting that over it. She spent so long and really doesn't want to start again. Do we even have the correct paint for the job? At this point any advice will be appreciated. Having wasted so much time has really left her disappointed and discouraged.

Upgrading to a new airbrush (Basically a beginner) in Canada

Hi all,

We come to the classic scenario it's my birthday in a few months and I'm loosening the hobby budget to upgrade my tools. I've been airbrushing with the basic bargain bin airbrush that comes with a compressor off amazon for the 1.5 years, mainly just using it for priming warhammer figs. I've kinda beat the crap out of it over time practicing how to use the dual-trigger properly, thinning paints, learning pressures, etc. Recently, I tried using the brush to do a rudimentary OSL effect (for some plasma weapons and lanterns) as well as trying to blend transitions on armor and was having a hell of a time. Perhaps I wasn't thinning the paint enough (definitely user error on my part), but I also felt like I was fighting the tool at the same time.

So now I've been debating what to upgrade too. The projects I'd want to use them for are:

  1. Getting smooth blends on small pieces of armor (Lumineth realm lords in age of sigmar, t'au in 40k), blends on capes and possibly base coating small areas that I'd not want to overspray too much on.

  2. OSL effects for plasma weapons, lanterns, etc.

  3. Spraying inks? As a zenithal or filter.

Now in my local area, hobby stores I've seen have access to H&S, Iwata and Gaahleri.

The brushes I've been eyeing are:

  1. Gaahleri Mobius 0.3 $100 Cad

  2. Iwata Eclipse HP-CS value set $260

  3. H&S Evolution 2024 2 in 1 $305

  4. H&S Evolution 2024 Solo 0.28mm $230

Now, I don't mind spending more (birthday justification to the girlfriend) if the final results/ease of use/ease of cleaning is very different (cleaning my current brush can be a big headache but I try to be vigilant about it), but I also don't want to toss money out the window if I won't see a difference in results.

I'd still likely use my beginner brush for priming/basic zenithal highlighting as I've gotten a bit used to it now.

Sorry for the long winded question, and thanks for the help!

Tips for getting old nozzle threads out?

I accidentally broke the nozzle off of my Iwata Neo and am having a really difficult time removing the old threads.

I’ve tried using a toothpick to twist the threads out, but ended up just breaking off the end of the stick, and I also tried using an xacto knife like is demonstrated in Iwata’s official video on how to get these out, but I just shredded the metal up without getting the whole stem of the nozzle.

Any suggestions on what to try at this point. Or is the body of this Neo FUBAR?

Compressor for a Newbie

Hey y'all, i haven't worked with Air Brushes before, but i am trying to get into Airbrushing. I mostly work on Warhammer Miniatures and smaller objects in my apartment room.

I decided on a H&S Ultra 2024, which seems widely considered a good brush. What i am not so sure about, are compressors. I would prefer it was somewhat compact and more importantly, it beeing silent, so i don't wake up the whole household when doing late sessions.

Any recommendations?

Sparmax and Ghaaleri seem to have some, but i am really not sure.

Any help would be awesome.

Thank you!

Getting back into the hobby and picked these up

Started to get back into model car kits again and decided on these, hopefully they last me a long time. Got them both for about 170 USD which was the cheapest as compared if I got them locally. Can't wait to start airbrushing!

How far should the needle be visible in the cap on H+S ultra 2024?

I'm struggling with tip dry so having to keep cleaning. One thing in noticing is I have no idea how far the tip of the needle should be visible.

Is there any method to find the sweet spot at all? Because I am pretty cack handed and thinking about sacking the whole thing off.

Also been told the nozzle cap from the Evo or the infinity help with cleaning. Is this true? What one should I look for?

Decided to redo the lids for the previous video I posted..decided to really make them come from nowhere..in last video you can see the black was too strong where I now faded the base back in..so when kandy goes on it’ll be a clean break.oh and the white shit was a quickie from other day😂

Clear coat removal help

Applied the satin version of this to a gundam kit as a base...I took a picture of the wrong bottle 😅 so same brand though Anyways any tips on removing it? I soaked the parts in hot soapy water and it didn't loosen it really...any other suggestions asides from aggressively brushing it off or scraping it?

H&S Evolution issues

Hi all,

After using a cheap generic airbrush for the last 2 years I bought a Harder & Steenbeck Evolution CRplus Solo 2024 (0.45) last week and have been enjoying it for the most part. I have however ran into a few issues:

  1. When cleaning the nozzle by wiping it with a wet brush (as shown in a H&S video) then a bunch of tiny bubbles start forming around the nozzle. Whilst this isn't a huge issue, my assumption is that the "chamber" (not sure what the actual term would be) isn't completely sealed.
  2. When pinching the nozzle and backflowing, it feels like there is some air rushing down the side. Again, not a huge issue, but feels like something isn't quite sealed.
  3. The backend was way too tight and had to be forced loose. From searching this seems quite common however.

Just wanted to get some opinions to see if this is normal or not. I only ordered it last week so still have time to return it if needs be.

Thanks in advance.

Need recommendations for a airbrush splitter that will handle two airbrushes simultaneously.

Hi all! Kev here and need your help. I'm opening up NYC's 1st scale modeling makerspace in Brooklyn, and I'm having issues finding a suitable quality splitter that will be connected to a 1-gal California Silent Air Compressor that will handle two airbrushes, possibly being used at the same time. Would also need to know if there's a connection while the two lines are split that allow the users to adjust individual psi to their airbrushes. I'll be connecting DSPIEA no wash airbrushes for kids and GSI pro model airbrushes for the adults.

This would be used in a business environment so I need quality suggestions that are going to last. I would love your recommendations, please!

Why does this keep happening

Brand new H&S ultra 2024 0.45 everytime i pull the trigger 50-100% this keeps happening. Product builds up in the ANTI-clog. Then i spray again and it sputters all the build up paint on the model (guess what happens). How to stop this from happening?

How can I stop clogging and clean my airbrush better?

(Sorry for the bad angle in the video, I was trying to get the squeaky gurgling audio)
Ive been having this issue with my airbrush almost every time I use it, It’ll work perfectly fine for a few seconds but then the paint will start to taper off or fade until it eventually stops coming out, so then I do a quick clean to just try to fix any clogs that might have formed and then it’ll work normally again only to do that same thing where it tapers off. It’ll also do this thing where it makes this squeaky gurgling sound and only let paint out every time it squeaks. I water down my airbrush paint and I don’t have any cleaning salutation so I usually just use water and the cleaning supplies that came with my airbrush. I’m still not super familiar with airbrushes so I know it’s definitely something I’m doing wrong so does anyone know why this may be happening and how I can take better care of it so it’ll stop? (The airbrush is a dual action Neoeco NCT-SJ81)

Another Alclad Chrome Post - what am I doing wrong? 🥲

From left to right, Alclad Gloss Black Base, Alclad Chrome, Alclad Aqua Glass. All three were started at the same time, but I kept one of each as a way to show the side by side.

I’ve seen some posts where people get the chrome with a mirror finish like the black base looks, but when I apply the chrome the glossiness dulls out, and I think the aqua gloss dulls it even more.

Steps I took:
I have the glossiness of the black base down, not even orange peel - Check.

Wait a week… (to let black cure, just didn’t get a chance to until then)

Light coats of chrome on black base. And I meant *light*. Lower PSI Barely get anything there first pass- and immediately the gloss sheen is lost to some degree. I press on.

Wait another week to let cure.
Noticed there was a light coat of powdery chrome on the surface. Wiped them with micro fiber.

Applied aqua gloss on the last spoon. Sheen is even less glossy.

Sadness.

Any tips. Pweeze.

Thinning with thinner VS water

Hello what's the difference between thinning with thinner VS water? It feels like with thinner it takes way more layers to cover over black as with water thinned paint. Also with thinner thinned paint feels like it dries quicker.

My goal was to glaze with the airbrush
