Useful 3D Prints

I've printed a few things to make my airbrushing easier (storage box, box for spare parts, paint holders, brush shadowbox, Skadis organizers). Curious what 3D prints you all have found helpful for 3D printing. I am not looking for things to paint, I have enough busts and minis.

Gaahleri Barbatos Rex Airbrush Trigger issues.

Hey all,

Just a little backstory and context. I purchased a GT-918 Compressor, GHAD-68 and Barbatos Rex directly from Gaahleri. The compressor and GHAD have been great, but unfortunately, the Rex has been giving me some trouble.

After unboxing and checking out the airbrush I noticed that the trigger wouldn’t return completely to its original position after pulling it back. Being a beginner, I wasn’t sure whether this was normal, so I connected it to the compressor to test it.

I don't think it was spraying properly, again i'm a beginner but the main issue was because the trigger wasn’t returning fully to its base position, air would continue flowing through the airbrush unless i pushed it back to base. There was no paint coming out because the trigger was getting stuck near the end of release.

I’ve been in contact with Gaahleri’s support team and, to be fair, they’ve been very responsive and the overall experience with their support has been good.

There was a process to go through though. They wanted to send me a replacement needle chucking guide, which I was fairly certain wouldn’t fix the issue and it didn’t.

They've agreed to send me a replacement, which is great.

I’m just wondering if anyone else has experienced this particular issue with the Rex and, if so, whether you were able to fix it?

From looking at the mechanism, I’m wondering if the problem could be related to the slider, slider spring or spring case, as something seems to be preventing the trigger from returning fully to its base position.

Would be really interested to hear if anyone else has had the same issue and fixed it?

Has anyone ever used this kind of airbrush?

I don't have much space for a proper airbrush setup, and I am going to use it to paint 1/35 and 1/72 scale plastic models which have fairly small details.

So my questions:

  1. Is this sufficient / problematic for a beginner?

  2. Has anyone ever used this kind of airbrush for plastic model?

  3. Is the "head" swappable with any other type just in case its broken?

Does anyone make a low pressure air regulator where the difference between low and high airbrush pressure aren't a mm apart on the scale?

I'd like one where 10-40 psi IS the scale. Why do we need the other 100 psi on a hobby airbrush regulator?

Replacement nozzle for pre-2024 H&S Ultra

Hey all, I just managed to break the tip of my airbrush nozzle, and I want to get a replacement. Sadly I can't find an 0.2 mm nozzle on H&S site, is a 0.28mm nozzle fine or should I look for a 0.2mm nozzle somewhere else?

Is this good enough for a beginner?

Hi,

Friend of a friend is trying to get rid of some airbrush stuff and me- a complete beginner and 0 experience with an airbrush- is looking for a decent kit to start using for mini painting.

He looks to be selling an iwata airbrush and a badger 180-11 and a few other not named as of now airbrushes for 100.

Im down to invest in a good quality stuff and not stuff that would give me a headache down the line. Ive been seeing some negative reviews about recent badger compressors so im just wondering and seeing if this is something a total noob would get.

Thanks :)

Laquer paints for airbrush use- Help needed!

Hello,
I am looking for succesor for my tamiya acrylics. They are running out and im not satisfied with them (sparse/uneven pigmentation). I paint my base colors with airbrush so i want to go full laquer. I mostly paint vechicles in 1:35 1:24 and 32mm scale.

I mix my paints for airbrushing (by adding mr lvling) in separate bottles and i don't want pre thinned paints (unless metalics from allclad2/mig)
I am split between 4 options:
Hataka orange line, Ak real color (new ones), Mr hobby C series, and Gaia Notes.
I heard that hataka has problems with laying smooth around details, peeling away from raised detail and reacts badly with some varnishes wich is a big no for me but it seems unlikely for laquer based paint to be this bad. Ak supposedly has problems with strong decal softeners and will melt if touched with them. I only heard good things about mr. hobby and Gaia Notes but mr hobby comes in very small 10ml jars - almost 2 times less than hataka and real color, Gaia on the other hand comes in big 15ml jars but is very hard to get in EU where i live.

Please help me decide, any feedback from anyone that has used any of those paints will be very valuable to me.

First time: help needed!

hi all! this is my first time owning an air compressor or an airbrush. for now, i just want to use it to rehaul a michael myers mask. the airbrush is the paasche ez starter kit and the pressure regulator is a paasche r-75, and i am using a mcgraw 3 gallon oil free pancake compressor.

please forgive my cluelessness, but i’m assuming i would need some sort of adapter to connect the pressure regulator to the quick connector? if so, what type do you think would be best? thank yall for all yall do to help us newbies!

Question about Primer

Hey guys, so I had a quick question when it comes to priming something prior to painting it. I had tried to look online but can't seem to find exactly what I'm looking for to answer my question.

Basically I was prepping a video game controller to paint, had gotten it cleaned, primed, and I noticed something on the surface (maybe a spec of dust, or something similar?) instinctively without thinking, i went to scrape it off with my nail, very gently and cautiously. When nothing came off I again without thinking tapped the spot with the tip of my finger and the spec was gone. Unfortunately I'm sure anyone reading this may know what happened. So what exactly would be the solution to fixing this blemish in the primer? Do I wait an hour or so for it to dry, sand it lightly with some high grit sandpaper and re-prime it? Do I just paint it and sand it after a coat of paint is on?

I'm pretty new to painting, other than walls now and then in my home lol

Painting stainless steel

hello guys, I’m an artist mainly an sculptor and I’ve this stainless steel piece (a few small tubes side by side) and I want to paint only their tips (like a gradient that goes from metal to color) I have never used airbrush but I thought maybe it could be the way to go, but I don’t really know how to go about it, could you guys help me?

(I cant sand or use primers cause there is no clear starting point on the painted area since is going to be a small gradient area, but also is just a wall piece decoration thing so i dint think this would be a big problem)

It's not me it's the paint!!!

Ok so I'm being a little facetious, but I just sprayed through every createx metallic pearl I had with no issue, except the wicked pearl red

I didn't thin or mix any of them, just straight out of the bottle, it's not the brush, it's not something I'm doing as far as I know, it is in fact the paint

I'm going to order another bottle directly from createx and see if I can get better results

Also question, does Createx make a needle lubricant? I also wanted to try that out as well

With my airbrush, should the needle be this far out or a bit back? I can't push it out more.

Air leaking back into paint cup

I have a Fengda FE-130. I’m not sure what I’ve done, but right now air keeps leaking back into the cup, like when you cover the front with you finger to force air back to mix the paint. Paint and air still flow through (although a bit splotchy), but the cup keep boiling rather aggressively. I’ve tried cleaning the whole thing and adjusting the needle position back and forth. Any suggestions?

Upgrading or not to H&S Infinity 2024

Hello everyone,

I have a little dilemma, I have an old Infinity 2in1 (.15 and .40) that I use only with the .15 duse for details for some years now. I paint minis and use only water based acrylic. I love the airbrush and I have never had any major issues with it, dry tips yes but it easily manageable. But I believe the nozzle is showing its age now it’s no longer as precise as before.
I have another no-brand airbrush that I use only for priming but it’s giving me lots of headaches lately.

I would like to buy a new (and decent) airbrush specifically for priming, base coating and maybe zenithal highlighting so I was thinking to buy:

  • a new H&S Ultra or a GSI PS-289
  • a kit for my Infinity (.25 titanium duse)

All about ~176€.

But then I found the “new“ Infinity 2024 at 207€, I could use the old one with the .40 nozzle and relegate it to priming and base and zenithal and the new one for details.

What do you think? Any other suggestions?

H&S Infinity leaking air?

Hi all

I recently upgraded my H&S Ultra to the Infinity 2in1.

I didn’t use it for a few weeks while I continued to get used to airbrushing, but now I’ve started using it I’ve discovered a problem.

The 0.2mm nozzle works fine, but when I install the 0.4 I’m getting air back in the cup automatically, and even in the biggest cup I’m finding paint is bubbling over.

It’s brand new - the nozzle is screwed on properly so no seals can be worn at this stage - any ideas?

Thanks

Stuck lid on paint cup straight from box

Hello, just getting into airbrushing and picked up the GHAD-39 Airbrush. For some reason I cannot get the lid off the smaller paint cup that comes with it. It’s unused so there’s no paint in it. Ive tried running the bottom cup part under water, I’ve tried wd40, and I’ve tried prying it open and wiggling the lid but nothing seems to work. Does anybody have any tips or advice that could help? Thank you

Update: so I tossed it in the fridge over night and that ended up shrinking the pieces enough to let me pop the lid off. I hope this doesn’t become a reoccurring problem but thankyou for all your help.

Creos PS-289 vs Iwata Eclipse

Which is better and why? I've used both and both are exceptional brushes and have specific things they do very well. If you only had 1...which would it be and for what readons?

Iwata HP CS airbrush for sale(120$)

Used for maybe 12 hours, it will arrive as clean as I can get it. Great brush, just don’t have a use for it anymore.

120USD, Cashapp, Zelle or PayPal. Shipped UPS to your door, as long as it’s CONUS.

Comes with everything pictured, Iwata wrench, beeswax and a nozzle wrench. At the price point, I think it’d be a great beginner or novice brush.

Drastic pressure changes and watery paint

Hi, I have have had a tc320 air compressor for about 3 years now, and it has been great. Recently however the pressure has been dropping down to 10 psi regardless of what I set it at, and my paint has been going on very watery. I at first thought that it was a psi issue, so I messed with that a lot to see if I could get it to work. It might also be important to note that at around the same time there has been a noticeable sound of air getting out around the needle at the bottom. I have tried to clear the moisture out of the area and it does not seem to fix it. I don’t think it is an airbrush issue as it is a pretty good airbrush and I try to keep it well cleaned and maintained. I would prefer not to have to buy a new compressor if I don’t need to and just try to fix this, but I just want to keep airbrushing. ( if I do need a new one what is recommended, I was given this one so I really don’t know about that side of things)
