Alexa issues

Alexa echo has been ignoring my questions. Today I asked the same question 3 times. It ignored me. I finally said if you aren’t going to answer me I might as well unplug you. As soon as I said that, it answered the question. Anyone else have that happen, where it refuses to answer or respond?

Routines with Two Devices Location

Hi everyone,

I have an Echo Show 10 and two Tapo cameras, and I’m trying to create an Alexa Routine that activates the cameras when both my girlfriend and I are away from home.

However, under Location, I only see the option to use a single device’s location as a trigger. I don’t see a way to add another location condition, such as:

My phone is away AND my girlfriend’s phone is away → activate the cameras.

The important part is that if I leave while my girlfriend is still at home, the cameras should remain in Privacy Mode.
Is this possible with Alexa? Or would I need something like Home Assistant to achieve this?

I’d prefer to keep it fully automatic, without having to use a voice command or manually activate a routine.

Talk to Alexa to launch an app on Fire stick

Is this possible?

I have the stick managed by echo dot and want to say "Alex, launch DirecTV on Fire stick", but I get "unsupported" reply.

Am I missing something?

Thanks.

Chance to use my way?

I have an Echo (this one Echo (4th Gen) | With premium sound, smart home hub, and Alexa | Charcoal), a 1st Gen Echo Show 15, and a 1st Gen Studio. I am de-Echoing my home and have these items left to do something with.

For the Echo and Studio, I have WiiM controllers I can connect, is it possible to factory reset the speakers and just use the Aux-In without setting them up as Amazon devices?

Anything I can do with the 1st Gen 15" Show?

Would hate to just toss all the stuff after wiping them.

Thanks for any assistance/help/ideas you can share.

Alexa and privacy

I think we all know that Alexa is always listening but something happened over the weekend that I didn't like at all.

I have a few echo's at home and my 85-year old mother has a couple at her home. We do not share accounts. She has hers, I have mine, there is no integration.

I went to her house to visit since my brother was coming into town and I had 3D printed something and brought it with me. I told my brother about 3D printing it.

Next time I walked by her echo show, there's an ad for a 3D printer on the screen. This echo is a few feet away from the conversation I had. There's no way it's a coincidence. I know Alexa is always passively listening - that's how she knows when you call her name. But it's seriously bugging me that it's taking that passive conversation and turning it into an ad.

I've looked through my own Alexa app settings, specifically under Privacy but I don't see anything about this behavior.

Does anyone know if there's such a setting to ignore everything that doesn't follow the word "Alexa?"

I’m getting an airplay option(?)

The title explains it but I’m very confused as to why this is happening, anybody else had this??

Edit: It does not stream any music but I’m just super confused about it even showing up

u/Fancy_Performance934 — 4 days ago

Echo dot saying it can only connect to 3 govee bulbs at a time.

Basically what the title says, however when I google it it says that I can have upto 150 devices at a time. This is my first Alexa and I am confused, as I only have four lights.

My alexa is talking to a ghost? Or something else?

My alexa will randomly say something like "Sure I can tell you great stories just ask me and I'll tell you somthing somthing*****. (I cant remember exactly what it said) but it's done this multiple times stating things like I was asking if it could tell me something. I started asking it "Alexa, what did I just ask you?" And it will always say, "you asked me for a random bible verse".

This annoying "feature", I swear to god...

This is annoying the shit out of me. It's happening nonstop on loop. It creeps onto the right-hand side and says "Oh, hello", then about five seconds later my calendar will slide into that right-hand section. A few seconds after that, it all slides away. After another 20-30 seconds? "Oh, hello", it's repeating for bloody eternity... WHY. WON'T. YOU. DIE?!

I considered that it might be trying to sway me towards expanding the right section, and I tried that. I dragged it across. There's nothing special there, and doing so didn't stop it. I'm considering returning my Echo Show 10 because of this. The screen is usually in my peripheral vision, so it's incredibly distracting when I keep seeing that waving hand hundreds of times a day. Oh, and yes, I did try turning it off and on again. Didn't work.

Tired of it, is there anything

I have an Echo Show 15 mounted in my Kitchen. Has been ok, not great, in the 3 1/2 yearsa I have had it. Hated the ads, which have gotten worse over the years. I tried Alex+ and it was horrible for us, so I switched it back. Not sure what happened but now I cannot dismiss ads any longer, if I try and touch the icon in the bottom right of the ad it just brings up the full ad.

I would like to switch but having trouble finding something to replace it. I have looked at a large Android tablet (14.6"), the Samsung Galaxy S11 Ultra and like it but I don't really need all that. Not opposed to getting it if that is the best option, though.

I tried one of the "Calendar" option that run an Android OS but it is way too slow for my needs.

What I need is

  • Voice interaction
  • Wall mountable with minimal modification to wall
  • Calendar (Google calendar)
  • Shopping lists of some sort
  • Timers
  • Photos (would rather have Google photos but either Amazon or Google works)
  • Spotify
  • The ability to use Plex and YT TV on it
  • Would love widgets but not a deal breaker

If the best option for my needs is still the Show, then fine. Just getting a little tired of the 'Zon garbage I constantly have to put up with on it.

Any suggestions?

(If this breaks any rules here, I apologize.)

Old Echo Dead due to Alexa+

We had the original Alexa which actually had a pretty great speaker. Luckily we had an echo so we can turn on the lights!

Is there any new Alexa that has as good of a speaker as the og?

Don't listen to Support if they tell you to reset to factory default

I chatted with 3 different Echo service staff. They were all unhelpful, incompetent or lazy. They insisted I needed to reset my Echo Show devices to factory default in order to get the updated Zoom app version 6. My previous Zoom meetings would no longer open on my Echo devices because they required "my IT team" to install Zoom version 6. Current Echo version of Zoom app is 5.17. I told IT reps to check to see if Amazon had enabled Zoom version 6 BEFORE I would reset my devices. They said NO - reset your devices first. I did, and took over an hour resetting all my Zoom and Echo settings BUT still found Zoom wouldn't run because it had not been updated to ver. 6. WASTE OF MY TIME! Terrible customer service!

New User

Hi, we recently purchased an Echo Show 21 and I need some help figuring this out. I listen to books through the Alexa app on my phone. When I get home, the show in my kitchen shows continue listening with a picture of the book cover I was listening to on my phone. I don't want my family being nosey & knowing what I'm listening to and reading.

Is there any way that I can turn this off? I've tried searching for answers and cannot seem to get anywhere. TIA

Air quality monitors stopped logging?!

Air Quality Monitors Stopped Logging?!

Hello! I’ve got 3 Amazon air quality monitors running, all working fine for many months.

As of Wednesday all 3 have stopped logging any values in the app. They’re still connected and report instantaneous values just fine, but I can’t see any history or the bar line graphs in the app. Makes them a bit useless.

I’ve tried restarting them, have removed and readded, restarted the internet etc. No difference.

Is anyone else having the same issue or are theirs working fine?

Grainy/wavy texture on my Echo Show 8 (1st Gen) screen, but not on my other identical unit — anyone seen this?

I've got two Echo Show 8 (1st Gen) devices, same model, same Fire OS version (6.5.7.3). One of them has a strange grainy, wavy texture visible across the screen (see photo) — it's noticeable to the naked eye, not just in photos. The other unit doesn't show this at all, so I know it's not lighting or a normal display characteristic.

No drops or damage that I'm aware of. Has anyone else run into a screen defect like this on the Show 8? Trying to figure out if it's a known panel issue before I go through Amazon support/warranty.

Can I turn off the AI entirely?

I’m so sorry if this is a dumb question but I had something happen yesterday that was very unnerving. I use my echo as my speaker for my computer- I was watching a documentary and was talking to myself and said wow that’s so cool and it responded. “What’s so cool that’s got you excited?” It didnt even turn on to hear an answer. I said Alexa don’t ever do that again and all she said was “Okay” and powered off. Anyways, kind of scared me. I know they’re always listening but the side comment was just very spooky. Is that even normal? Should I put tape over her mic or something? I’ve used it for years and never had that happen. Thanks for any guidance :/ again, I’m sorry if this is a stupid question.
