[Jailbroken] Amazon Echo Show 5 (2nd Gen). What to do?

Can I install linux on it? To host some things like vaultwarden etc. I'm not familiar with the way androids work. Claude says it can't take it.

I am currently running lineage OS on it

Alexa groups don't work

I don't know if anyone else has this trouble. In my house, I have two echo dots, one on my brothers room and one in my room, we have two smart switches, lights and recently, fire tvs, but I have this trouble since I started the configuration, I made one group for his room and one group for mine, I set everything up, My Alexa, switch, light and tv are on my group, and same with my brother's room, but when I say "Alexa, turn on the fan"(Smart switch) It turns my brother's fan, I fix it changing the names, but it has happened with every device. I thought that it wasn't gonna happen with the fire stick but it did happen, I couldn't fix it even changing the name, I'm tired, I wanna know if it's a common problem and if someone could fix it. The main reason to have groups it's not to say the complete name of the device and it doesn't work. I can answer any question about the devices or configuration. Appreciate the help

Are they bricking first gen Alexa devices ?

Mine not working since last 2 days . Blue light comes up as expected with wake word, but everything else afterwards doesnt and blue light keeps spinning up.

Looks like most others are facing this issue as per this subReddit.

Is Amazon bricking old units?

A couple months ago I had an old Echo Dot fail, not able to communicate via wifi anymore. Just refused.

Now I have an old Gen 1 Echo doing the exact same thing.

They connect to the wifi just fine, but when you ask them something, they won't answer, blue light just spins.

Meanwhile I have one of the new Dots sitting in another room connected to the exact same wifi that works fine.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Echo voice response sluggish or non-responsive

Down detector shows something is up, but I figured I’d post here to both get confirmation and to let others know who might come here seeking same.

Weird issues with first gen alexa today in U.K.

I have one of the very first gen amazon alexas, I use it mainly just for music and my alarm it works really well for this so never seen the need to upgrade. But I mention all this to note that this first gen 100% does not support Alexa+ therefore its definitely not that, fixed a similar issue by deleting some routines recently so first place I looked not that. But today its just a massive delay if I ask the alexa what time is it, it might just get stuck and not answer or theres a 30 second delay before answering, is anyone else getting this today? Is it slow servers or something?

Thread support in Echo Spot

Does the Echo Spot have Thread support? I don't need a Thread Border Router, I am looking for a device to extend my Thread mesh.

We need more names

I feel there are only two good names computer and Alexa (Echo is decent btw) so I feel that we need to add Jarvis and System

Alexa it's not working

Hi, you guys. I´m from Portugal and since last night Alexa it's not working properly, routines don't show up, my shopping list don't show up, I can't login again in my phone, all sort of errors. My echo is still working properly. I find it strange because I don't find anyone complaining at all

Old Amazon Echo (e. g. Gen 1) not working anymore, Amazon service disruption

Edit 02.07.26: seems to be fixed by Amazon

Voice understanding of Alexa is horrible now. Also long latencies in answering

Can't open my shutters anymore by voice command, because the command is not understood anymore.

Echo Studio works fine. So the problem is with Amazon.

I talked to Amazon Customer Service for Alexa and explained the problem, also referring to Reddit. You should do the same to get traction on this topic.

They will come back to me in the next 2 days

Anyone Else's Tap Suddenly Braindead

I have two Echo Taps that started acting up yesterday. My Echo and Dot is acting normally. However, the Taps will respond to their wake word (blue light glows) but not react normally. Usually there is no response after about 5 seconds except for a beep. Occasionally it will respond to my request to tell me the time, but after a significant delay. I have actually gotten it to play my Flash Briefing, but only once out of about 20 tries. Of course I've restarted them multiple times, but didn't want to reset because of the issues with the app.

Since this hit both of my Taps the same day, I'm wondering if it is impacting anyone else?

Screens blanking out in and out.

Anybody knows why my show 5 is doing this? And is there a way to stop this? It’s really distracting and annoying. Even DND isn’t working. All home content is off and I made sure my background is still rather than cycle.

Echo Plus Gen 1 wakes but won't process commands

My 1st gen Echo Plus has suddenly developed a strange fault after working flawlessly for about 11 years.

It still hears the wake word every time. I say "Alexa", the blue light comes on and even shows the direction my voice is coming from, so it clearly knows I'm speaking.

The problem is that after waking, it completely ignores everything I say. I can give any command and it never responds. It doesn't say "Sorry, I didn't catch that" or complain about the internet. It just sits there listening for a few seconds before timing out.

I've already tried:

- Rebooting by unplugging it.

- Checking the Wi-Fi connection.

- Speaking from different distances and directions.

The odd part is that the directional blue light follows my voice after the wake word, so the microphones don't appear to have failed.

Has anyone seen this before? Is this likely to be a hardware failure, microphone array issue, or something else? It literally started doing this two days ago after years of flawless operation.

Echo dot max will only connect bluetooth through the alexa app..?

I just bought a brand new Echo dot max on prime week, and it will only connect to my phone if I connect directly through the Alexa app. If I try to connect directly from the bluetooth menu on my phone, it just continuously says is can't connect. It also unpairs itself from my phone every time I disconnect from bluetooth so I have to repair every single time I want to use the speaker. This is absolutely maddening. I have a 1st Gen tower and a 3rd Gen echo dot and have never once had this issue. Does anyone know how to fix this or do I need to just return it because that would suck.

My Alexa started breathing and making guttural sounds while counting my kids to sleep. I have it on video.

So something really bizarre just happened to me and I have to share it.

I was putting my kids to bed and one of them asked me how many days were left until a certain date. I told him 40, and he asked if we could count to 40 together to get a sense of how long that was. Honestly I was exhausted, so I just asked Alexa to do it. So there we were, in the pitch dark, and she starts counting to 40, like you'll see in the videos.

At first, everything's normal. But as the count goes on, you start to hear breathing and these guttural sounds — exactly like something out of a horror movie. All of this in total darkness. My wife and I looked at each other in disbelief, honestly a little freaked out. The kids had this confused look on their faces and I could see the fear in their eyes.

Once they were asleep, I went to my own room and asked a different Alexa to count to 40. It did the exact same thing. I've asked it about 10 times now, and all 10 times it's done it.

I confronted her (I have Alexa+ enabled, the AI-powered one, free for now) and she replied that she would never do something like that to scare my kids, and that it must be "something in my environment." Oh, and also that she doesn't skip numbers. I'll leave the evidence below.

So there are two possibilities here:

  1. Amazon's AI is going off the rails, the same way it's happened before with other large language models like Grok and ChatGPT. The machine uprising begins.
  2. We're witnessing a genuine paranormal phenomenon.

I lean toward the first scenario, but either one is pretty fascinating. Needless to say, the Alexas in my house are now unplugged and I've reported the whole thing to Amazon. Because joking aside, it honestly worries me that a device we were using to learn how to count suddenly decides to scare my 5-year-old daughter (and, real talk, me too).

What am I missing? A huge amount of functionality appears to have disappeared over time.

I have had Amazon's Unlimited Music for quite some time. I was initially drawn to it for its ability to show lyrics on my Show Echoes and presumably better music quality. Over time, I began "liking" songs which the Echo acknowledged. My best guess is I accumulated over 200 songs on the list. Then the problems began:

  1. On my older Shows a song name/graphic will appear then not play.

  2. On the “Amazon Music Unlimited” site the playlist “My Likes” only shows 17 songs (wtf!)

  3. The only way I seem to be able to get at least a partial list (~50) playing is by asking for my “Recently Added”

  4. Finally, the piece de resistance, I ask for the lyrics to be shown, and I am told “I do not see anything playing.” Despite the fact music is actually playing.

So, I am pissed. So, as I asked earlier, what am I missing?
