Proshippers are so self-contradicting

I saw a video made by a 16yo of him making points against proshippers. I won't post it here because the uploader seems to have an extreme distrust of redditors due to being harassed by them before, and this uploader also shares his experiences with adult proshippers going viral by making proship content of his OCs and even him and his real dead relatives since he was 12. This guy has seen the WORST sides of proshipping and has all the experience to attest that it's toxic.

And the comments?

> Uploader points out that underage sexual fics is CSAM in many countries (Australia, Bangladesh, South Korea, etc).

>"W-well you see the laws against fictional CSAM are outdated!"

They literally cannot be. Even Brazil is updating it's laws to align with Australia.

> Uploader uses his own VERY EXTREME harassment from proshippers as an example of proshippers being degenerates.

> "Well you're just pitying yourself, what do your abusers have to do with this, you're so uneducated!!"

How can he be uneducated if he himself has been victimized by proshippers.

> Uploader talks about how proshipping others' characters against an individual creators' boundaries (even if they have fandoms) is a form of harassment.

> "Well nobody is going to DIE if their characters are shipped!!" "We're anti harassment BTW!"

Bro.. you can debate all you want on this point, but you cannot be anti-harassment and then say that shipping is fine even if a creator says no.

There were many more disgusting comments but I don't want to even read them.

I keep seeing a darkship with my comfort character and it makes me want to disappear

'Disappear' is a very sugar coated term for how it would make me feel, but I don't want to get banned from here.

I don't know if many osc people come around this sub Reddit often (probably not) but I don't know where to talk about this and feel understood.

I have a character within the fandom I cherish very much, to the point I see him as a romantic partner. The problem is that this character is famously shipped with his father figure by LOTS of people in the community. I try my best to block and move on but it always worms it's way into my feed and into my life and every time I see it I just want to cry. Ive dealt with a lot of childhood trauma myself and to just see a group of people willingly project that onto a character is beyond me. Why? For comfort? Enjoyment? whats there to enjoy about it?

To feel less alone about something like that is to get professional help, and if you feel the need to make such art then please just keep it in a closed space and not accessible to people who are sensitive to it. It's not that I even look for it, I just search my character's name and it's.. There. Mixed in the results. I see it and I literally just wanna hurt myself or curl into a ball and die. Its stuck in my head for the rest of the day and I cant remove it no matter how hard I try.

The reason I'm posting about this now, though, is that I was recently trying to look for adult-friendly servers in my fandom only to run across an entire discord server of this dark ship, being actively boosted. The bio of the server mentioned topics like breeding.

Ive never felt so mentally depreciated. Does anyone know what to do to cope with something like this?

Feeling disturbed and guilty (TW: underage r*pe fanfiction topic)

In 2024 I joined a new fandom and prior to that, I was never exposed to proshipping and had no idea what it was until I joined said fandom. I stumbled upon AO3 and began reading normal fics. There was this one character I was really into and so when I went to go look for fics featuring him, I stumbled on one that was Dead Dove and it was not only my mistake for missing the tag but moreso for reading it to completion despite being disturbed. This was because it began normally and then once the character began to assault the other character depicted as a teen (both characters from the fandom are originally adults, the author aged one of them down), I felt disturbed, yet kept reading. At the time, I simply closed the tab and moved on. It wasnt until this year where I suspect I may have developed some sort of moral OCD where I've spent hours ruminating on me having read this and even worse after finding out that fiction on that topic is on the grounds of VCSAM which is disgusting to even think about (though I'm unsure if by written VCSAM they mean fictional stories on real minors or they also count fictional stories on fictional minors). I'm unsure how to move on from this and I know reassurance is ineffective but I need to know I'm not alone since I've seen ex-proshippers here and they're not shunned (This account is a throwaway btw). Since this incident, I've never engaged with said proship fics and always am extremely careful to read the tags prior. And prior to this and even now, I've never been a proshipper and never will be. I also reported this fanfic but it was only after I began to ruminate on the fact I engaged in this, despite those kinds of fics being legal where I'm from and that reporting wont do anything.

TL;DR I missed a Dead Dove tag and read a adult/teen fanfiction and feel inmense guilt and shame ever since.

u cannot be a proshipper/profic but also spend money on merch abt the fiction you like

if fiction doesn’t affect reality, why do u have the urge/want to buy merch from a piece of fiction?

mentally ill people will say “ouh it doesn’t AFFECT ME!” but then wont tell you other hobbies they have that doesn’t involve consumption of fiction.

if ur “hobbies” consist of making fanart, collecting merchandise, making edits, partaking in fandom culture and etc. how does fiction not affect you again? cuz last time i check you don’t even go outside! lolz
