Driving through

Driving from Portland - Saint John, New Brunswick. Bangor is pretty much the halfway point, just looking for things to do and see along the drive. Any recommendation is very appreciated! (Also I’m from Canada so if someone could explain the marijuana laws to me in Maine that would also be amazing 🤣)

Bangor needs new leadership

Regardless of where you stand on the issues, the city council meetings cannot be run the way this one was. It was chaos.

The Mayor appeared unable or afraid to use a gravel. She spent the whole meeting looking at the city attorney, who no one voted for, for directions on how to run her meeting.

It might be time for the city Council to consider a recall Mayor election. Bangor needs more effective leadership.

Stargazing spots

I’m looking for a quiet area with a little less light pollution to try to catch some meteors with a friend soon. I don’t want to blow up anyone’s secret spot. Could someone recommend a spot that would be relatively accessible? You can PM me a spot if you want, I carry in carry out and am born and raised in Maine. You’ll see no trace I was ever there. Thanks in advance!

Airport Question: From Bangor BGR to Belfast, then back.

I am flying into Bangor at the end of the month. I have a hotel in Belfast. I fly home (New Jersey) on a 6am flight that Saturday morning.

Best way to get from hotel to airport at that time (Uber? Cab? Car service? Book ahead?). Also what is a realistic time to arrive at the airport at that time/day (2 hours? 90 minutes? Even less?).

Thanks for any guidance you can provide!

Is there a business to print emails open on Sunday?

Hi! I already checked to see that the library closed. Is there a coffee shop or alternative that offers printing? I need to print something off my email and am having trouble telling whether any place has that service.

Thanks!

Bangor Caller on Dave Ramsey

I hope “Monique’s” daughters can feel better now about going no contact with their MAGA mother. She’s writing you out of the will with Dave’s encouragement. Although, this assumes you even want the money she ”worked so hard for.” Sure.

Relocating and cost of living

Hi, I’m planning to relocate to Bangor Maine in about 7 months or so. A lot of people have told me that Bangors cost of living is lower than most towns in the New England states must still offers great options for groceries, entertainment, etc. I wanted to ask some locals if that’s true? I have a trip planned to Bangor in about a month to get more of an understanding on what it offers. My main goal is to find a town I can buckle down on my IT career and still be able to save/invest while living single. I’m relocating from Florida but I lived in Minnesota for 22 years (28 now) so I am very familiar with brutality of northern winters. Is what I have been told about Bangor still true when it comes to cost of living? Any tips or recommendations I should know when it comes to renting and locations or anything is very appreciated.

Movers or day labor for a small job?

Looking for recommendations for a moving company, or where to find day labor, for a small moving job later this month.

I need help loading stuff from a storage unit into a UHaul later this month. I probably only need 1-2 guys for an hour or so. I don't need help transporting anything since we can bring the UHaul up to the storage unit, just help loading. It's not too much stuff, a few pieces of furniture and bunch of boxes.

I am not from the area, I shipped stuff to Bangor and am moving to Canada, so I won't be able to ask friends or family. My brother is helping me drive, but he has a bad back so we need some extra hands.

Thank you in advance!

Looking for an in-person TTRPG group around Bangor/Brewer

Hey everyone! I’m 35M and looking for an in-person TTRPG group somewhere around the Bangor/Brewer area.

I’ve played D&D 5e and would be happy to jump into another D&D campaign, but I’m also open to learning other systems. I’m looking to join as a player, either with an established group that has an opening or something new that’s getting started.

I’m not looking for any particular style of table, and am open to trying new things. I’ve not played a ton of DnD but I’ve enjoyed it and want to find a local group. I’m just as comfortable with a laid-back group that jokes around as a serious group that gets really into things, as long as everyone is having a good time, is comfortable, and is enjoying the game.

Outside of TTRPGs, I’m into gaming (Strategy if I had to pick a genre) fantasy/sci-fi, guitar, and generally nerdy stuff. It’d be great to find a group that gets along well both at and away from the table.

Evenings or weekends generally work best for me. If your group has room for another player—or you’re around Bangor and looking for a group too—feel free to message me and we can start gathering together to figure something out.

How's Life In Howland?

Work in Old Town, in my 30s, single, have enough set aside for a solid down payment on a house, but I'm not exactly raking it in. Poking around, it seems like there are decent homes for sale in Howland at way below the prices I'd be paying in Old Town/Orono/Bangor/Brewer.

I'm not much of a social butterfly, commute wouldn't be much different than it is currently (about 25 minutes instead of my current 22). . . . am I crazy to be seriously considering Howland?

Standup Comedy?

I don’t live in Bangor but visit a lot. I‘m looking for opportunities to do standup. I see different open mic nights in town centered around music and wasn’t sure if any of them would be open to including comedy. Any info would be appreciated. The closest comedy open mic I know of is Belfast (which I recommend for folks in the area)

Planning a Move to Maine

My husband and I are planning on moving to Maine from Roanoke, VA in the next few years. We'll be visiting family up in Maine next week and were planning on exploring Bangor. We'll be looking to buy a house so I'm wondering if there are any neighborhoods we should avoid when searching. Also wondering what to look out for when looking at homes up there...I've noticed most houses are pretty old!

My husband and I are both into the outdoors, arts, music, etc. Bangor reminds me a lot of Roanoke in some ways so it feels like a good fit for us.

Thank you for any insights! :)
