La Conexión, plus getting a bag today....

I went to La Conexión today before the game with a friend. I was already planning on buying a City connect jersey so I figured I mine as well go. It was pretty cool area in general, you get to see where they did the reveal video with the shrine and everything, but I wouldn't say it's worth the $35 entrance fee if you don't plan or didn't originally plan on buying any city connect merch. That part went well, but at the time I hadn't thought ahead to get a bag while I was there (more on that later...)

I also purchased the Star-Wars theme game add-on. We had to go all the way to section 329 from Gallagher square to get the bobbleheads which is whatever I guess, but they didn't have any bags to carry them. 🫩 I figured I'd go ask a team store rep for one of the *plastic disposable bags* that they have behind the counter. Little did I think that'd be such a big ask...

The first team store pop-up we go to near section 329, the lady says "sorry you have to buy something first". I'm like okay... I just spent $340 on a jersey and bobbleheads but whatever. So we go down to closer near our seats and to the team store adjacent to member services. They say the same exact thing, and "sorry but it's policy". I explained politely how I just had purchased a jersey (showed them my receipt as well) and hadn't thought to get a bag from La Conexión for the bobbleheads we hadn't gotten yet.

Next thing we know this lady is calling her supervisor for a *disposable plastic bag* mind you. The supervisor was just as helpful. This guy calls La Conexión to confirm they had bags available to give us when we were down there. After telling him we spend thousands of dollars a year on the Padres as season ticket holders he finally gives us a bag. You should've seen the look this guy gave us as if we had just robbed them.

As much as I've enjoyed being a season ticket holder and supporting the Padres I've had to deal with shit like this way too many for the past five years. Whoever is responsible for making their "policies" needs to lighten up... It's actually ridiculous.

Edit: I wasn't in desperate need of a bag either it just would've been nice to keep them protected without the extra hassle. Someone actually spilt a drink right next to us and the boxes would've gotten wet had it not been in a bag.

Tonight baseball made a Fan.

"So I grew up in a house where baseball was basically seen as a third-world sport, but tonight everything changed.

I put some bets on baseball because, what the heck, why not? But as the night went on, I was like, “I’m gonna actually watch this.” Then I was met with a dilemma: I didn’t have a baseball team.

So I started watching the Yankees. They tanked, and I wasn’t hooked yet, but I felt like I needed more. I had an itch I couldn’t scratch.

So I tuned into the Rangers game, and my God, I thought it was over for them down 6-0. Then I watched as the batters started coming to life and the Angels bullpen started to fall apart. It was like some kind of miracle, like magic had fallen upon the Rangers’ shoulders.

I started to believe.

It wasn’t about the money I had bet anymore. It was about watching something I had never paid any mind to before unfold before my eyes. It was one of the best things I had ever seen in sports.

I watched as a Rangers team that looked dead slowly started chipping away at the lead. I watched a pitcher completely fall apart, and the hope only grew as the innings went on. Little did I know, I was hooked.

I couldn’t stop.

The Angels ended up winning, as I’m sure you all know, but I felt sympathetic toward the Rangers because they never stopped fighting. I was left needing more.

So I turned over to the Giants vs. White Sox game. Earlier, when I had seen the score, it was 9-0. But as the game went on, the same thing that happened in the Rangers game started happening there too. The momentum flipped. The crowd was going crazy, and hope wasn’t lost.

Baseball has to be the best sport in this country, and tonight I figured it out.

I became a baseball fan tonight.

I finally understood.

I became an American."
