Ross Balling-Volleyball Maverick

One of the most well-known people in beach volleyball in the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s, Ross Balling passed away this week at age 60. Ross was a tournament director, advocate, sports marketing pro, referee, and age group coach for the Midwest. He ran the Midwest volleyball professionals and then the extreme volleyball professionals around the country, and coached over 10,000 kids over his career running age group camps. He will be missed by a lot of people familiar with the sport.
What do you think of this call? USA (Cruz/Brasher) v. SUI (Mäder/Kernen)
There was also a similar call from Mäder earlier in the game, but that was a more prolonged contact and it was called a lift.
Hitting form review
Posted here before but I've never got the chance to get footage before so here's some footage I took from my hitting session .
Full folder on drive is : https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1qQMXVjvLRzV7VZ0hBcEqGvR\_IRycUjkg
Reel with a couple hits: https://www.instagram.com/s/aGlnaGxpZ2h0OjE4MDg4MjU3MzYyMDE2NTA5?story\_media\_id=3932190080877869642\_363316101&igsh=MXUwMDVoY2EweGNwcQ==
Main thing I see and that is pointed out is my right arm not coming up enough . And from what can't be seen as much, I sometimes tighten up the arm, which hurts my shoulder . Any feedback is appreciated
Find Volleyball near you!
Hey r/volleyball
As both an organizer and player I've always found it difficult to find places to play volleyball, especially when travelling. Meetups and open gyms are scattered among various apps (Meetup, Reclub, Facebook Groups, Instagram), excel spreadsheets and word of mouth.
So I decided to design a solution..
https://findvolleyball.app/ is a free website, no ads, community driven map that allows you to find places to play Volleyball near you. Filter by things like indoor/grass/beach, paid vs free, and days of the week.
If you know of a meetup in your area that plays volleyball please consider hitting Add Listing. This site isn't meant to replace the apps we use to organize our sessions, listings will have an external link to them. Feedback and feature requests are welcomed!
Mods: I don't make any money from site traffic and there are no advertisements. I just have a "buy me a coffee link". I've posted this as a genuine tool for the community, not trying to advertise.
After spending years playing this game, I have settled on the truth.
Anybody else not having any commentary from beach volleyball world on youtube?
reddit.comWhich side to play as a lefty in Beach?
Hey y'all,
Just want to get some opinions on where you think a lefty should play in Beach?
In Indoor most left handed players are Opposite hitters because you can get better angels and it's easier to hit line as well as diagonal.
On the other hand, i think that cutshots are way easier when hitting it at the direction of your body than hitting it away, and since i'm not really tall nor athletic i should use them more
Its probably a pretty individual thing and you just have to figure out which side suits you more, still very interested in some of your opinions or advices :)
Avp Gold membership worth it over Silver?
I'm going to be competing in the future and you need a atleast an avp silver membership(35$), but the avp gold membership(60$) seems pretty enticing. Anybody who has had either think one is more worth it?
Any news on the FIVB double contact test for hand setting?

Beach Volleyball
My daughter, who is 14, was talent-ID'd in Australia to trial beach volleyball.
She is enjoying it so far but remains committed to her main sport.
What opportunities exist in beach volleyball that make it worth the effort, both domestically and internationally?
World aces (Volleyball team management game)
Hey ! I’m not sure if the creator of this game advertised it already and I thought many in this community might want to know about this. Gonna try to describe it briefly, but feel free to ask if you have any questions!
It’s a volleyball management game, similar to hattrick (soccer/football online game) if you played it before.
It is 100% f2p (the only way to recruit characters is by playing the game. Playing the game gives you currency allowing you to recruit players or improve you coaching staff)
You recruit characters, they have obviously different strengths and also different kind of rarity (typically the higher the rarity, the higher their progression ceiling)
With this characters you build your team as best as you can with a complete yet reasonably simple team and tactic building system.
You play online against other player to compete in a division (from Monday to Friday) and in national/regional/world cups from Friday to Sunday
All the tactics and team building is made before so you don’t have to be there for the actual game, which is simulated automatically. After each game you have detailed statistics on how your players performed (but similar to real life statistics, not like a grade/power score we usually see in video games) so you can try to adjust your tactics with what you see.
He’s in the process of making an android app also, but the browser version is very playable on mobile.
The guy is working like crazy. I’m on the game discord and players are suggesting a lot of ideas to improve the game. He’s implementing the ones that fit with his vision super fast. In barely a week the game went from a nice prototype to something frankly enjoyable to play.
Just to be clear, I’m just a player, I was not mandated to promote the game I just thought that it was pretty close to the volleyball management game I always wanted and I thought maybe there were other like me.
TL;DR :
Amazing online volleyball team management game
100% F2P (can’t even donate to support the guy)
On browser for now but android app in the making
M40, just played my first beach 2s tournament this past weekend. I had a lot of fun even though we didnt win a single game. Had some questions...
We didnt get last though!
Our tournament was supposed to be divided into two levels Intermediate and Advanced (the whole tournament was marketed as for newer non-competitive folks)
Me and my partner had only been playing proper 2s for like 8 months so we joined the lower bracket. There were a lot of teams in this bracket who had been playing for 10, 15, 20 years - and they smoked us. One even crossed over to the higher bracket and got to the finals.
Is this just a thing to expect with tournament play? We did learn a lot in the process.
Both me and my partner didnt perform as well as we would in scrimmages, quite a lot worse. Is there anything you guys do to mentally unwind for a tournament? I think nerves got to us.
For defense, we had a lot of trouble against teams that out-read us, hitting corners when we expect short or hitting short when we defended the corners. Is it just a matter of reading the hits better? Experience and getting faster?
What mobility work for improving at beach volleyball?
I am stiff as a board. No injuries or anything, but just trying to fix the fact I feel like my range of motion is holding back my movement and technique. I'd love to move around the court more fluidly, reach more touches on defence, and be able to dig and pass more difficult balls.
There's a lot out there on shoulder health and hitting mechanics, but not as much for general BV mobility. So i’m wondering what you all use to play your best overall.
What drills or routines have actually made a noticeable difference for you?
Thanks!
Beach volleyball in Singapore
Hey guys. Are there folks it playing regularly here? Cheers
Why do taller players jump serve more in beach?
In beach volleyball it's more common to see the taller player(blocker) jump serve and the shorter player(defender) float serve. Indoor its usually the opposite, tall players(usually middle blockers) usually float serve while "shorter" players (every other position) usually jump serve. Any reason why?
Attacking on option balls
Did a mixed beach tournament this weekend with a really solid female partner who passed well enough that I had a ton of options on serve receives and on free balls. Because of that, I was able to take a bunch of seconds and score off them. There was a 3M rule to attack for men.
What I don’t get is why people get so mad about this.
It’s perfectly legal. If the other team gives you an easy ball or a soft enough first contact that you can take it on two, why the hell would you not? Are people just expecting everyone to politely hand over an easy shot every time instead of taking the point that’s there? We also made a few points returning it on 1, which actually made one of the teams give up at 10-2 because they were too aggravated.
I get being annoyed if it catches you off guard once or twice, but some people act like taking seconds is cheap or dirty when it’s literally just part of the game. If you don’t want someone scoring on two, then defend it. To me it’s like complaining about bunts in baseball or QB sneaks in football.
Why does this piss people off so much in beach volleyball?
