Beach volleyball stats: kill

I would like to get your expert opinion on the definition of a beach volleyball kill. I know the standard definition which is an attack that resulted in a point. However, for a hard swing that was dug uncontrollably back over the net, is that considered a kill for the original attacker? What if there were two or three uncontrolled touches resulting in the ball going back over the net? Are those considered kills for the original attacker as well? Thx.

Huntingdon Replay

So far I've managed to avoid all spoilers. Is there a way to actually watch most of the tournament in an official way and not some of the smaller streamers that are positioned in the crowd?

Beachvolleyball

man I tried to make a save this weekend and completely ate it. Dove way too early, face first into the sand then ball went right past me. my partner just stood there shaking his head the other team asked if i was okay while laughing. I was fine just covered in sand, got up and tried to play it off like i meant to do that, worst part is i had sand in my mouth for the rest of the match. also found sand in my ears later that night. Not my finest moment but gave everyone a good laugh.

hand setting outside is impossible

Indoor i can set just fine, get outside and the wind picks up and suddenly my hands forget how to work. Ball either spins like crazy or I double contact it. Coach says to use my legs more and keep my hands soft but when the ball is moving in the air I panic. I heard that setting in beach is way stricter than indoor and refs will call anything that looks close. anyone have a tip for setting clean when it's windy or do you just bump set everything and stop trying to be fancy.

Tips/Dinks in Beach Volleyball

I'm pretty new to beach volleyball, playing for like 2 years in a moderately competitive league. It isnt called that strictly, but I still want to play by the rules. I have a move when I'm hitting where If there is a strong block and nobody covering tips, rather than swinging hard I'll just let the ball glance off my palm and down into the empty space. It works well for me particularly after I've swung a few times and the defense is expecting more swings. I've gotten mixed feedback, is this a carry? The contact is momentary and I don't push/guide it.

Can i start playing, even if im older??

So for context, I am currently 16, but my parents are insanely controlling. I'm not allowed to go to school, not allowed friends, not allowed to join any clubs/activities. (I go to the gym, and stay pretty fit, but even then they aren't happy about that lol).

I've always LOVED the idea of playing beach volleyball. It looks like SO much fun. I used to live near a beach, and I would watch people play all the time. And when the Olympics are on, it's the only thing I'll watch lol.

It just looks like so much fun. I don't know why I'm so keen on it, but I've always wanted to be a part of it. Idk if its the fact it's at the beach, or the constant speed, jumping, and movement, and overall fast pace (I have ADHD and am constantly told to "slow down") I just know I want to do it, you know?

I want to play so fcking badly. I've showed my parents countless teams and clubs, all under 18s, and girls only. And the answer is always "we'll see" and it never, ever happens. It gets so godamn frustrating!!!

(Sorry for my mini rant lol)

I'm working on saving up, so I can move out at 18, then I can join.

But, my question is, can I join a team/club as an absoulte beginner, and as someone who would be "older" than most people who started playing?? I know that a lot of people played sports at school, or were put into extra curriculars as kids. And i also know that with a lot of sports, it can often be harder for "adults" to play or learn.

Or would there just be no point in joining at all, because I'm going to be starting older than most people?? Plus I'm worried slighty about being judged and stuff.

Thank you so much in advance :)

(Also, sorry if parts are rambled or don't make any sense. It's super late where I am lol and this whole thing has been keeping me up lol)

What’s one beach volleyball skill that looks easy but is actually brutally difficult to execute consistently?

For me it’s passing a hard jump serve cleanly in windy conditions.

On TV it just looks like “forearm platform + angle control,” but the amount of variables is insane:

spin on the ball

wind shift mid-flight

serve speed

platform stability in sand...

Second one is setting in beach volleyball. It looks simple, but consistent, legal, pressure-proof setting seems like one of the hardest technical skills in the sport.

Beach volleyball is one of those sports where the basics are way harder than they look at elite level.

Curious what skills others here think are most underrated in difficulty.

Huntington Beach Open

I am going to be in LA the next 2 days for work and have all day tomorrow free. Thought about going to the beach to see if there is any pick up games, then saw that the Hunting Beach Open is this weekend. Would it be worth while to go there tomorrow and check out the whole setup for the event? Fan of sand volleyball and play on a BB level and excited to go out to LA and maybe watch some volleyball in action!

Eczema/skin crack/dryness

Hello, I'm curious if any beach volleyball players out there have eczema or in general skin crack due to dryness. How do you deal with it while continuing to enjoy the sport? I've tried a couple of things, but the one that I still find the best is taping my fingers with KT tape (the less adhesive ones). The only problem is I find that it messes up my sets (has spins to it) and it makes the situation worse when I take them off 😅

Help me improving my Jump for the tournament

Good morning,

I am the captain of a 4-player beach volleyball team, and we have a tournament exactly one month from now. I am the team’s main attacker, but I am relatively short for the role (1.75 m / 5’9”). However, I am well trained and have been playing competitive handball for more than 10 years.

Could you recommend a training program or give me advice on how to improve my vertical jump between now and the start of the tournament? Any tips, exercises, recovery strategies, or technical suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Goodr vs Blenders sunglasses

Hello everybody!

I have a grass volleyball tournament that is happening next month and I wanted to buy a sunglass. After some research I learned that the two most popular brands are Goodr and Blenders, but I don't know which one is better. Can anyone tell me which one that you prefer? (I heard that Blenders might have a sale during memorial week and was thinking of buying it that time, so price wise I'm not concern about it.)

Thank you!

Beach Volleyball community in Bologna

Hi! I'm a regular beach volley player at my home city and I'm going to spend a lot of time this year in Bologna, Italy. I wonder if anyone here knows how is the community there, what are the spots where I can find people playing, training and etc, and if there are places where a lone beach volley addict can go?

Sunglasses for Bachvolleyball (and running)

Hey so I have been looking for good sunglasses that I can use for beach volleyball (and also running but ig if volleyball works with them then I should be able to run with them right?). But I have been looking for a long time but have been struggling since I have a really small head and face so they either immediately fall of or just look absolutely ridiculous. An since I’m a guy that’s also really short (158cm/5’2) I don’t want to additionally look like a child with huge glasses :(
Do any of you have some recommendations? Ideally also not to expensive but if you only know expensive ones then that’s fine as well as long as I’m getting some Ideas it will help either way

Beach Volleyball Net Ideas

I want to start playing beach volleyball this summer, I've been playing on a court for a few years, but I don't know the best net setup to use. The weird net kits seem unnecessary, with the bad ball and pump, but doing it DIY seems like it might not work well at all and we might have a bad time. What do you guys do, I can get my friends to chip in but I don't want the whole thing to be more than like ~$60.
