What Separates GOOD Beatboxers from ELITE Beatboxers?

In your opinion, what separates a GOOD beatboxer from an ELITE beatboxer? Musicality? Technicality? Innovation?
Who would you compare as a good beatboxer versus a world class beatboxer?

Craziest rollercoaster of emotions for fans of Given

Given dropped out of gbb. Leaving a spot for hippy to take over. This was announced right after the finals of the APAC qualifier dropped where Given won 3-0. This is kinda crazy cuz i was waiting for sbx to drop a post announcing given qualifying for gbb through apac qualifier, only to refresh and get jumpscared by hippy lmao.

Codfish GBC2026 Showcase

I am probably gonna get a lot of hate and pushback for this…
If you listen to his showcase from a technical standpoint, his structure was sloppy and I feel experimental. The issues I saw were inconsistencies in some of the drums, timing issues, and sound slips. And although not necessarily a “bad” thing, he sounded unprepared. In part 2, he was building a lot of suspense with a bunch of half routines thrown together and it gave off the impression that he was trying to see what the crowd would respond to.
He is very established at this point of beatbox, clearly. I just noticed that this was the first performance of his I’ve seen noticeable issues with. Sure it’s just a showcase and he wasn’t battling but I felt it was just sloppy. Apart from that, it was super enjoyable and fun to listen to.
I’m pointing this out because he’s supposed to have a showcase and a fantasy battle in GBB. I really hope he prepares a bit better to make his performance top notch.
I’ve only noticed these critiques in these 2 specific videos. It kind of reminded of Reeps One in the Spacetime Legends battles. Not “bad” just experimental in the structure. Back in the day Sxin & Chezame reacted to a few of those battles and described Reeps to have routines that weren’t satisfying.
I’m prepared for the hate, just wanted to express and maybe even respectfully debate to hear other perspectives.

Roast my GBB predictions

Alright give me your opinions guys, what do y'all think ?

u/Seizuma_bbx — 17 hours ago

Just realised

Just realised that all the top 3 beatboxers in GBB24 Julard, Osis and Remix had never performed on the gbb before 2024(excluding U18). Thats kinda crazy that they made the top 3 on their debut right.

What Sounds/Styles Are Beatboxers Sleeping On Right Now?

Interested in your opinions. What style, sound, or general ideas do you think will take the beatboxing scene to the next level in its evolution? An example would be like how lip rolls completely took over the beatboxing scene. Before Napom, it was a relatively niche, under explored sound. Now, it’s basically a necessity for any beatboxer to learn it. What do you think the next big change will be? What do YOU want to see happen? What sounds do you think will evolve to the level lip rolls did?

Opinion on patbox?

Not everyone appreciates his style. Yet he brings something new to the table (the "coupé décalé" thing) and he has grooves and flows we’ve never heard before.

What is your reason “why”?

What drives you to continue to practice and to perfect this art form? Is it simply for the love of the game or do you have a long term vision in mind?

Throat bass underrated?

To me it seems like the general beatbox community became obsessed with lip rolls and inward bass over the years and then completely forgot to perfect the throat bass. I can always tell when someone never properly learned the throat bass because it lacks bass and has too much vocalization. For example, Napom… No hate on Napom, absolute legend, but imo, terrible throat bass. Wing is one of the few new era beatboxers that perfected the sound. What are your guys thoughts?

gigantic kcon la performance from Wing

He performed Dopamine and Aventador (remixed a bit as he always does)

This guy is always finding bigger stages to stand on. Holy.

FINAL GBB 2026 PREDICTIONS

Now all the solo beatboxers are qualified (assuming there are no dropouts) I’ve done a final list on what I think will happen. Also before you call me a Dlow fanboy I think a lot of the battles could go either way as well as the elims so he by no means is the guaranteed victor. That being said based on the battles drawn from my elimination rankings I do think this is the most likely outcome, feel free to dispute.

Help? I don't know what to say to my parents.

For starters, I'm a 13 yr old who loves beatboxing a lot. On the other hand, my entire family absolutely hates it. Half of them don't even know what I'm referring to when I talk about beatbox. I've been doing this for ~7 months now, and I've gotten my parents' approval to participate in a national competition next year (mainly because I wouldn't stop nagging them). The problem is, I've been self-learning beatboxing for this entire time and now I've hit something similar to writer's block, where I seriously think I need some paid lessons to continue progressing in the direction I want. I suggested it to my family (not just my parents) and they immediately started arguing that beatboxing would be dangerous and that it'd damage my throat and that it would ruin my teeth development and make them crooked (I have braces). They also said that it'd affect my grades (I currently excel academically and I've stayed that way for a few years already). Any reasoning after that and they immediately shot it down with "hell no I'm not paying for that crap". To be honest it's roughly 44 USD to 178 USD depending on how many people I learn with (solo is 178). They also think that becausae the sounds don't "sound natural" they're bad for the throat (I tried showing them tongue bass and inward clickrolls and they were like "omg what is that stop it you're going to damage your throat" but when I vocalized them they were like "that's a nice little trill you've got there, see it sounds natural and nice"). Any ideas or suggestions on what I could say to them? Does anyone have experience on this type of criticism?

GBB26 solo category - full lineup

Who do you think makes it to the top8?

u/Peuer — 4 days ago

(Poll) Filling up the last 3 spots to occupy the top 8 battlers (ignoring eliminations) among GBB2026 beatboxers

Most likely, people have these 5 guys in their top 8 battlers:

D-low
RIVER
FootboxG
PACMax
BlackRoll

The most unlikely in people's top 8 battlers are: Waali, Astron, Gelber, Given, Marvelous, ABX, Stitch, G-Wizz, H-has. (please do share if you disagree and think some of these are better battlers than the 6 names in the poll options)

This leaves us with the last 6 guys to fill the last 3 spots. Who are they? Please vote!

(deleted my last post and made this poll to make it easier xD)

What do you consider to be “old school” beatboxing? What are the different eras?

Interested to hear your guys thoughts. It’s crazy to see the technical differences between beatboxing today vs 10-20 years ago. Also, which beatboxer do you think really set the tone or raised the bar for each new era?

I made a site where you can predict GBB results and get scored on how close you were

I've been watching GBB for years and always ended up arguing with friends about who'd take it. So I built a place to actually settle that.

You rank the wildcards, fill in the bracket, call the winners and the scores. Points depend on accuracy — getting the winner right pays, getting the whole path right pays more. Everything locks when a phase starts, so no cheating after the fact.

It's free, ad-free, and you sign in with Discord (nothing else, no email). Solo project, so it's rough in places — there's a form in the app for bugs and suggestions and I read all of it.

https://beatboxpredictions.com

Happy to answer anything about how the scoring works.
