Today, Bikaner saw roads being blocked and huge crowds gathering because political leader Ravindra Singh Bhati was visiting the city. What struck me wasn't just the crowd—it was the almost idol-like admiration surrounding a politician.
And honestly, it made me wonder: when did we become so obsessed with politicians that we forget to ask what our city actually needs?
Bikaner still struggles with some very basic civic problems—broken roads, garbage lying around, poor infrastructure, traffic management and concerns about corruption and accountability. Yet whenever a political figure arrives, we can mobilise massive crowds, block roads and treat them almost like celebrities.
Where is the same energy for demanding better roads?
Where is the same enthusiasm for cleaner streets?
Where is the pressure on authorities to improve basic public infrastructure?
Bikaner deserves more than political spectacle. It deserves functioning roads, cleanliness, better civic infrastructure and accountable administration.
Maybe instead of asking "Which leader do you support?", we should also be asking: What has actually changed on the ground for the people of Bikaner?
