“Det Hjemsøkte Hjertet,” the latest Panopticon album, is fucking amazing.

I know there’s no accounting for taste, but I find it extremely hard to imagine anyone who’s a fan of at least one blackened genre and is not a trve kvlt edgelord listening to this album and not feeling like their soul has been fed. It’s just that good.

Please, help me find more bands like these

Hello. Over the past few weeks, I've found myself immersed in a search that is lately exhausting me, as I am looking for a very particular sound. It all started when I began to reevaluate Sunn O))), and from there, I discovered Nadja's early albums. Since those discoveries, I've found several excellent bands, but somehow they don't quite meet the requirements of what I’m looking for. I'll try to describe it:

  • I am looking for a sonic slowness that is glacial, as if making incredibly slow dark ambient but with doom and drone instrumentation.
  • The vocals should be clean, not guttural or harsh. For example, I immensely enjoyed "I Shall Die Here" by The Body, but the screaming repels me.
  • Corrupted also fascinated me musically, but it was all ruined when the vocalist started singing.
  • Bismuth is relatively close to what I want, but they only have two albums.
  • Nadja's early albums are almost exactly what I'm looking for, but their later albums are more melodic, with more conventional compositions.
  • I liked Jesu's "Heart Ache", although the vocals don't fascinate me. I would like something more whispered and ethereal or something totally instrumental.
  • Someone recommended Inoha when I mentioned my search for cleaner, ethereal vocals. It's not bad, but it's like listening to a heavy version of Lycia, and that's not what I'm looking for.
  • Albums that I have liked and that have come somewhat close to what I'm looking for: KTL's first album; "Unavailing" by Bismuth; "Let the Earth Be Silent" by Fvnerals; "Ceremony of Stillness" by A-Sun Amissa; "Weighing Souls with Sand" by The Angelic Process (even though it hardly resembles the sound I'm looking for at all, it's a wonderful album). And above all, my favorite album to come out of this entire search: "Touched" by Nadja.

Apologies for the wall of text and the phrasing. English is not my first language, and I am also tired from staying up late the past few days listening to records. Any help will be eternally appreciated.

What would be your advice to a 19-year-old looking to start a new Blackgaze project?

Hi everyone,

I’ve been stuck in a brutal university entrance exam grind here in Turkey for the past two years, but I finally got the score I wanted! Now that the weight is off my shoulders, I can finally dive into my dream: starting a music project. I’ve known for over a year that I want to make blackgaze.

I'm a guitarist, and last year I picked up an Ibanez AZES40 in Mint Green as my third guitar. The moment I saw it, it just gave me those pure Asunojokei - Island vibes, and it turned out to be an amazing fit for the atmospheric, bright-yet-heavy sound I want to capture. I've slowly built a small home studio setup, and this week I'm finally grabbing a MIDI keyboard to start the real learning and production process.

Long story short: as a young musician just starting out, what would be your absolute best advice? I don’t have any musician friends in my local circle, but I follow this sub daily. I'd love to hear your thoughts on production, songwriting, or just finding my own voice in the genre!

Thanks in advance!

Sadness East Coast Tour Shirt???

I caught Sadness in Boston back in May, and it was an amazing show. But…… I have a question that has been plaguing me ever since.

What is this on the tour shirt??? It’s a cool design, I just really cannot tell what it is. Flower? Jellyfish? Alien? ?????

Just released a 15 minute cosmic black metal song that I've been working on for a long time

You can stream the full 15 minutes here: https://orcd.co/eakblqo

I've been playing guitar for over 20 years now, but only started singing (ok, screaming...) about a year and a half ago. I always wanted to make music on my own and finally I got to the point I felt good enough to do it. It took me a lot of hours and sleepless nights to make this song and I'm very happy with the result - give it a listen and tell me what you think! :)

The song is a standalone release called "Different." I recorded it as a preview for a full album that is at the mixing stage right now and hopefully I will be able to release it soon. This specific song is not a part of the album, though.

NO AI WAS USED IN THIS SONG!

For gear nerds like me:

* Guitars: Mostly recorded on a Les Paul with DiMarzio D-Activator and Super 3 pickups (I love this combination and have been using it for a long time). On some solos, I used my ESP Mystique.

* Bass: Yamaha RBX 775

* Vocals: Shure SM7

* Drums: Samples from Superior Drummer and Steven Slate Trigger
