What’s this mute?

Looks alike to a cup… but there’s a cup right behind it.
One of the trumpets had a smaller one of these, too.

US Department of Commerce refers to foreign-made brass instruments as national security threats, threatens tariffs.

A proposal by the Commerce Department, targeting various imported manufactured metal items, includes brass instruments, and considers a 25% tariff on all imported brass musical instruments.

Given the ownership of Conn-Selmer by a venture capital firm whose owner, John Paulson, is close to Trump, is this related to him lobbying Trump for protection from foreign manufacturers, or are musical instruments just getting caught up in a broader trade dispute?

Anyone able to tell me more about this trumpet?

Found a trumpet. From looking up it seems like a world war 1 military trumpet but looking to see if anyone can shed light on it?

Metal with horn sections

Looking for any suggestions for songs or bands with horn sections specifically more brass instruments like trumpet or trombone as opposed to woodwinds like sax. Thanks!

Trombone rental in London

I'm a music education student from Singapore doing a 7-week international placement at the Royal College of Music starting mid-January 2027.

I don't want to fly with my own trombone (baggage cost + risk of damage). RCM doesn't loan instruments for this placement.

Does anyone know good places in London (preferably near South Kensington / central) that do short-term trombone rentals for around 7 weeks?

Best Marching brass for Highschools?

Hey,all my schools marching brass line is going to get revamped in the next few years and I am looking at some options.
When it comes to marching brass what brand is the best for an educational setting prioritizing durability, not wrecking students bodies with how heavy they are (looking at you Jupiter euphs and tubas) and being as easy to play as possible.

I perfer marching contras over sousaphones I think for the corps style marching we do they just fit and look better but I also know they can be bad for students so I’m not afraid to switch completely to sousas to protect their bodies.

Right now we march a mix of dynasty baritones, king mellos and a mix of 4 valve contras and sousas.

We’re probably gonna keep Marching what we already have but in the past three years of band is also doubled in size so we don’t have enough marching brass right now and have quite a bit on loan from other schools in the area.

Inside the V & E Simonetti Historic Tuba Collection.

I finally visited the V & E Simonetti Historic Tuba Collection after years of driving past it just a few minutes from my childhood home. This collection is the largest privately-held tuba museum in the world, with around 340 instruments – and not just tubas! Also featured in the collection are euphoniums, sousaphones, bugles, and more.

Check it out!

Piccolo Trumpet help

I have been playing trumpet for 22 years, and ever since high school, I wanted to learn how to play piccolo trumpet. I am not a professional in the sense that I play for any orchestras, bands, recordings, ect... I just enjoy learning new music and also give private lessons at a small music academy for the past 3 years. I just want to learn picc for the sake of having fun. I know the classic phrase when buying a picc: "Good or Cheap Pick one", but I just want to have some fun with it and learn a new instrument. So with all of that said, is buying the Schiller Elite still a waste of money? I already own multiple expensive trumpets and cornets, and dont really see any child students needing to learn how to play picc for their 6th-grade band show haha. Any help would be great, or just some good recommendations for something else worth saving for later, even if it's just for fun.

Recommendations

Alright, you talented trumpet players that, unlike me, have been playing currently instead of 20 years ago. My son is picking up the trumpet. I played a Benge 90B when I was in school/college. My daughter plays that trumpet now in high school. I’ve been suggested the Yamaha YTR 2330, but that’s a beginner horn for $1,800. If I’m gonna pay nearly 2k then I’d rather get him something a little better quality. What is this general consensus on this Adams Prologue Selected? Or do you have better recs?

First Time Mello Advice?

Im a senior in a marching band of around 30. I lead 2 sections (Saxes and Brass) and im primarily a Bari sax player. Ive played alto for 8 years and Bari for 6, even got selected for all state last year, but our brass section got in such a precarious spot that I switched from Bari to mello. I have about 2 months on Mello and overall im alright but just that. My director told me not to worry and that for my time on the instrument im doing just fine- but I want to be better. And I also want to have more tips for the freshmen under my wing who play brass.

If I can get any help on improving my range (written a3-f5), tone, or anything else I'd appreciate it! I don't know the model but I play on a Jupiter mello with a french horn style mouthpiece bc I hate the 'trumpet' one.

The attached video is one of my better attempts from the 3rd day of band camp but my playing could be more consistent, with less "flubbing" around the partials, and I'd like to make that high f more consistent and comfortable.
