Shoes for winter

I've lived my whole life in places with fairly warmer weather, but i've experienced utah on vacations. Most of the time, i'm wearing snow boots or heavy duty hiking shoes because im spending time IN the snow. But for the daily trek to and from and around campus during the winter, what are some suggestions for cheap(er) shoes to be on the lookout for that are good for lots of walking and wont get my feet soaked after the first puddle or slip?

Hey guys!

I am starting at BYU in 2 weeks and am taking the infamous Econ 110 with Professor Platt. I am a sophomore and just transferred into BYU from SLCC. I am a Marriott school hopeful and just want any advice or tips on how get a good grade in professor Platt’s class. I am very nervous but also excited for this new challenge and thought to ask any previous students for advice so I can set myself up for success!

Thanks!!

Academic Calendar: Holiday class or no class

On the academic calendar for Fall, does "Holiday" mean no classes? Or still classes?

Excuse my rant, I know I add to the mess as well too... But man dating is so hard

23 M Just got back from a date that was cut short way early because she needed to be somewhere.

Im genuinely tired of it tbh, This is mainly just a rant about the situation but yeah.. It burns a little more tonight because I have felt incredibly unlucky recently when it comes to dating. I never really get the cut short problem too much but even the recent first date cancellations i've had recently just makes me feel bitter. (like genuinely 5-6 in a row and now this) I wish I could be a little more stoic but it is a genuine war out here 100%.

I know it sucks for all of us but its been awhile since i've even had a small victory out here. Godspeed to everyone out here doing this dating thing man truly!

Students with newborns

I had my baby earlier this year (first time mom) and decided that I wasn’t going to do fall semester. I’m having regrets and know it’s probably too late to register for any classes. I definitely want to do winter semester though. My husband is a student as well and works. How on earth does one do school with a child??

Advice for my son Jr in High school BYU online

I need some advice. My son’s dream is to attend BYU after his mission. He plans to leave on his mission right after high school graduation, and he is about to enter his junior year. His current cumulative GPA is a 3.4.

He was recently diagnosed with ADHD and will begin taking Adderall next week, which he desperately needs.

Over the past year, he took BYU’s online Second-Year Spanish course. Today, he took the Part 1 final and completely bombed it with a 47%. I fully accept that this is his own fault.

I am now wondering what we should do about Part 2. Should I have him withdraw from it, or should he simply not take the final so that the course doesn’t end up on his transcript? I am trying to figure out what makes the most sense if his long-term goal is BYU.

I should also add that we have had A LOT of difficult family and personal circumstances this past year, including a death in the family and a major move. I realize those things don’t excuse his grades, but they have definitely made this year more difficult.

I understand that with his current GPA he may need to take a less traditional path to BYU, possibly through FlexGE, and I’m trying to keep his options open and figure out how he can present himself as strongly as possible when the time comes to apply. I know BYU-Idaho is also an option, but he would have about 12 first cousins attending BYU Provo during the years he would be there, so Provo would be especially meaningful to him.

As a side note, he is a very good water polo player and distance swimmer and has competed at the California State Championships.

Thanks in advance for any advice. He struggles academically, and I know some of that comes down to choices he has made. At the same time, he is a sweet, good kid, and attending BYU would mean a lot to him. I’m just trying to figure out the best path forward and help him keep that possibility open.

Need help finding a job

i don't know if it's just me, but workday is so confusing. I've been looking for an on-campus job, and the website is just so awkward to navigate through. Is there a more efficient and easier way to look for jobs on-campus?

Dress Code

I know byu has a dress standard and I was reviewing it and it seemed a little ambiguous... how restrictive is it especially for class. For example, do you have to wear knee length shorts or can they be shorter?

Making friends

Hi everyone. How do older students make friends on campus? I am 24f, and have been married for almost 4 years, so obviously dating is out. No kids

Im majoring in Marriage and Family Therapy, and I plan to get my masters in Social Work. I love concerts, and attending football games. I also like board games. I live within a mile of campus. I am shy, and struggle to approach people. I enjoy talking to new people. If any girls around my age are also looking for a friend feel free to message

Edit: I am a transfer student, this is my first year. I am very nervous

Hi! I'm at my last year at BYU and I need to take american heritage, something for social science, and one more religion credit. I had survey of eastern religions on the list and pysch 111. I have accommodations for chronic migraines but when I can avoid attendance based classes, I still try to. Any recs? I'm not looking for interesting, just easy and flexible attendance. C's get degrees rn

Exchange student coming to BYU, looking to meet people + housing

Hi everyone!

I’m Marcin, a student from Bocconi University in Milan, Italy, and I’m coming to BYU for an exchange semester from September until December.

I’ll be arriving in Provo without really knowing anyone, so I thought I’d post here and see if anyone would be down to hang out once I arrive. I’d love to meet some local students, explore Utah, go hiking, play sports, do road trips, grab food, or just hang out and experience student life there.

I’m also looking for housing, ideally my own private bedroom in a shared apartment near BYU from around September 1 until the end of December. So if anyone happens to be looking for a roommate or knows someone with a room available, definitely let me know.

Potential roommate benefit: I can cook pretty good pasta :)

Feel free to DM me even if you have nothing to do with housing, always happy to meet people before I get there!
