Ask anything to do with caves or speleology in general, I’ll answer as best I can and point to more resources too, any questions about karst works too but I may not know.

A Multi-Day Expedition Through The Biggest Cave in Northern Laos

While cycling through Southeast Asia and in Laos, I took a detour to a remote village in the nothern part of the country and did a guided, two day trip through the biggest cave in the area, the third longest/biggest in entire country.

Chom Ong was only recently further explored and developed with the goal of increasing tourism and incomes for the area in 2010. The first kilometer or so is develped with lighting, cement pathways, etc but after that it is ~15km of a primary fossil passageway then the active river pathway.

I found my guide, Thongkhan, on facebook and with the help of another guide the three of us made this two day trip through the cave. As someone who had very little experience in caves before, this was simply incredible.

[OC] Beautiful Ravlića cave, Bosnia and Herzegovina

Ravlića Pećina (Ravlića Cave) is a large prehistoric cave site located near Peć Mlini in western Herzegovina, Bosnia and Herzegovina, above the Tihaljina River spring in the municipality of Grude.

It is one of the most important archaeological cave settlements in the region. People lived there from the early Neolithic period (around 5600 BC) until the early Bronze Age, using it as a long-term shelter due to its stable temperature, water access, and strategic location.

Just discovered a hidden, century-old underground cave on our old property in Tuscany. It looks like an ancient wine cellar built straight into the hill.

Hey everyone! My partner and I recently bought an old, abandoned farmhouse from 1909 in the heart of Tuscany, Italy. We started clearing out the overgrown land and tucked away near the hills we found this massive stone opening leading deep underground.

Stepping inside for the first time felt unreal. It's completely freezing in there, and the walls are made of historic tufo stone. It looks like it has been untouched for decades, and it honestly feels like a piece of hidden history.

We really want to properly clean and restore this cave without ruining its historic character or damaging the old stone. Have any of you done something similar with European properties? Any advice on what to look out for or how to handle old cellars would be much appreciated!
