Relocation advice

Starting a new job at Geisinger this July and honestly having a mini crisis trying to figure out where to live lol. I’ll be renting a 1–2 bedroom apartment and originally thought Danville would be fine since it’s close to work, but after driving around there 2 weeks ago… yeah, I realized I seriously underestimated how rural it is.

Now I’m looking more at Lewisburg and Bloomsburg, but I’m struggling to find rentals that don’t feel super old/outdated. Most places I’m seeing are older houses with basic renovations, and coming from NYC it just feels like a huge adjustment. At this point I’m wondering what people in a similar situation usually do. Is there another area I should be considering? I’m not planning to buy right now, and I’d rather not switch jobs because I genuinely think Geisinger will be great for my career long term.

Would appreciate any honest advice from people familiar with the area.

Palmyra Wrestling coach suspended School Board Member's son, then won Coach of the year. Contract Won’t Be Renewed for Next Year

In January the school board's vice president's son was suspended for unportsmanlike conduct. Then suddenly the coaches were suspended.

The coaches were cleared and brought back. The head coach won Coach of the year. And now won't have their contact renewed.

Absolutely insane story.

Looking for friends in the west shore/camp hill/mechanicsburg/Carlisle/Dillsburg area

Helloooo! My husband and I have been looking to expand our friend groups but it is so hard to make friends as adults (as I'm sure y'all are aware). Here are some facts about us and if you feel like we might make a good fit as friends please reach out to me! We'd love to grab coffee sometime!

- we're both 35 years old, highschool sweethearts and have been married for 15 years

- we have two boys, 3 and 6, our eldest has level 1 autism

- we have two cats that we rescued

- we're big nerds; love dungeons and dragons, Renaissance faires, cosplay, fantasy and sci fi. We love videogames!

- husband does cloud engineering as a job and has interests in photography, music production, and likes doing outdoorsy stuff like hikes and kayaking

- prior to motherhood I worked in the nonprofit sector as an educator for mental health awareness. I love coffee dates with deep or challenging conversations.

- we're both Christians and active in our church but we are respectful of all journeys of faith. We love theological and philosophical conversations and especially love the intersections of science and faith and being challenged on our belief systems. We are NOT Christian nationalists and abhor the way our faith is being twisted into such hatred during these political times.

If we sound like we might be a good friend fit, let's give it a shot!

What is support looking like currently for Maryland and Pennsylvania?

As OP, I’m not biased towards any side but it seems like these states have the most equal backing from many people. BTW I loved that Pennsylvania dinosaur

Message to Hershey Entertainment and Resorts Leadership Team: Stop Overlooking your Union Workers Who Keep Hersheypark Safe and Operational

Honestly, Hershey Entertainment & Resorts LEADERSHIP TEAM, it’s time for a wake-up call.
The union skilled tradespeople at Hersheypark aren’t entry-level workers—they are highly trained, experienced professionals: ride mechanics, electricians, carpenters, welders, machinists, plumbers, HVAC techs, utilities, painters, garage mechanics, laborers, and central plant operators. These are the people who keep the park running SAFELY AND SMOOTHLY EVERY SINGLE DAY.

They didn’t just show up yesterday. They bring years of hands-on experience, top-level qualifications, and the ability to adapt to the park’s unique demands. No contractor or temporary worker could step in and do what they do without risking the safety of guests and operations.

Yet, despite being essential, these workers are undervalued. They aren’t interchangeable—they are CRITICAL. If Hershey Entertainment & Resorts wants to maintain the high standards the park is known for, leadership must recognize their true value with fair treatment, competitive pay, and benefits that reflect their expertise.

🚨 TO THE UNION WORKERS OF HERSHEY ENTERTAINMENT & RESORTS:

🚨****YOU ARE THE BACKBONE OF EVERYTHING THIS COMPANY DOES. YOUR SKILLS, EXPERIENCE, AND DEDICATION KEEP HERSHEYPARK RUNNING SAFELY AND SMOOTHLY. YOU ARE NOT INTERCHANGEABLE—YOU ARE ESSENTIAL. STAND TOGETHER, KNOW YOUR WORTH, AND NEVER SETTLE FOR LESS THAN YOU DESERVE. THE COMMUNITY, THE GUESTS, AND EVERYONE WHO EXPERIENCES THE PARK SEE THE WORK YOU DO AND STAND BEHIND YOU. WITHOUT YOU, HERSHEY ENTERTAINMENT & RESORTS SIMPLY CANNOT OPERATE SAFELY OR SUCCESSFULLY—AND THAT TRUTH GIVES YOU POWER.****🚨

Hershey Entertainment & Resorts leadership, this isn’t just fairness—it’s common sense. Treat your workers with the recognition, respect, and support they deserve before it costs the park, the guests, or your reputation.

Strong Strike Authorization Vote Underway at Hersheypark, Hershey Hotel & Giant Center

Just saw some updates on the labor situation at Hershey Entertainment & Resorts. All three properties — Hersheypark, the Hershey Hotel, and the Giant Center — are currently holding strike authorization votes. Turnout has been notably strong over the past three days, with union members showing up consistently from morning through evening to cast their ballots

They’re hoping for some real movement from the company before the end of this week, but after rejecting three contracts from Hershey Entertainment & Resorts (HE&R), it looks like a strike is the likely next step. No official results will be released until every vote is counted.

The company already knows exactly what the union is demanding, yet negotiations remain stalled. They’ve put three contracts on the table that were essentially identical, with the third one actually being a step backward. All three were rejected by the membership — which is why this strike vote is now underway.

After three straight rejections, it seems the company keeps offering more of the same instead of addressing the core issues.

🚨Big thanks to u/Hungry-Dog-8560 for this suggestion:

“If anyone is looking to actually get their voice heard in support, I would recommend sending a comment to Hershey amusement corporate. They have a guest relations page with a space where you can send comments/questions. A real human answers you and sends your feedback up the chain. Tell them you will never go to Hershey again if the park has to close down due to them not giving their workers a fair deal.”

If you’re following this, feel free to share your thoughts below. Hoping the workers get a fair deal.

Getting tired of touring houses

Saw 6 places over the last two weekends and I’m at the point where they all blur together now lol. Cheap cabinets, weird layouts, tiny rooms somehow labeled “luxury”, then they still want crazy money for it. Feels like people just throw paint on everything and list it.

One neighbor kept recommending Foxlane Homes because they built with them last year and said the whole process was smoother than they expected. We’ve been looking into it but I still don’t know who’s reliable anymore with all these builders and contractors. Seriously does anyone know a company that’s genuinely good to work with?

Ticks are absolutely awful this year

We've lived here, in the same house, for three years now, and I've never seen a single tick. This year, we've found six dog ticks in the past month -- four on the dog (not attached because he's on preventative) and two on me.

Because of the rain this spring, we haven't even been out in the woods, so this is all just from our back yard. Yesterday, I mowed the lawn. I was in jeans, knee-high socks, boots, and a long-sleeved shirt. Didn't spray Off on myself like I have been because I was fully covered in clothes.

A few hours later, I found a tick attached on my lower back.

We've got preventative on the dog and both cats, but there's definitely a big nest of these suckers in our yard somewhere.

If you have pets or spend time outside, make sure you're using sprays, collars or drops on animals, etc this year, even if you're not going out in Michaux and such, and check yourself in the mirror when you come back in.

OB-GYN Dr. Fred Teichman Sexual Abuse Allegations

For decades, Dr. Fred Teichman was a well-known obstetrician and gynecologist in Pennsylvania, where he owned and operated Central Penn Women’s Health.

Dr. Teichman held hospital privileges at Evangelical Community Hospital in nearby Lewisburg and was also affiliated with Geisinger Medical Center.

Despite multiple reports of inappropriate behavior, a civil lawsuit alleging sexual misconduct, and a hospital investigation that revoked his privileges, Dr. Fred Teichman continued practicing privately for more than a decade.

He was never disciplined by the Pennsylvania State Board of Medicine, and his medical license remained active until it expired on December 31, 2024.

BREAKING: Hershey Entertainment & Resorts Union Workers Reject Final Offer—Summer Park Opening, Concerts, and Events at Risk

BREAKING NEWS: UNION Employees at Hersheypark, The Hotel Hershey, and Giant Center OVERWHELMINGLY REJECTED the company’s third “last, best, and final offer” on Thursday, May 7, at 4 p.m. A vote on whether to authorize a strike is now scheduled for next week. Hersheypark is preparing to open seven days a week for the summer season on May 21, even as union maintenance workers continue critical contract negotiations with Hershey Entertainment & Resorts.

More than 200 SKILLED TRADESPEOPLE in the maintenance department including:

•Carpenters
•Electricians
•HVAC technicians
•Ride mechanics
•Plumbers
•Welders
•Machinists
•Painters
•Laborers
•Central plant operators
•Utilities
•Sign Artist
•Garage Auto Mechanics

All are ESSENTIAL to SAFE park operations and guest experience. These workers perform DAILY ride inspections, maintain park utilities, manage emergency responses, and ensure the facilities remain clean and fully operational. Their EXPERTISE CANNOT be easily replaced by third-party contractors.

While Hershey Entertainment & Resorts has historically been viewed as a strong union workplace, employees say key benefits have eroded over time. In these negotiations, the maintenance team is seeking fair wage increases, more affordable health insurance, and higher shift premiums on less desirable shifts. They are also firmly opposed to any proposals that would devalue skilled trades, lower professional standards, or set the stage for weaker wages for these critical roles in the FUTURE.

With the latest offer REJECTED, a strike vote next week could lead to a work STOPPAGE that DISRUPTS the planned May 21 opening. A strike WILL also AFFECT SUMMER CONCERTS and LIVE EVENTS at the Giant Center and Hersheypark Stadium, as the contractors who work alongside the park’s maintenance team to set up stages and events are fellow union members who will not cross the picket line.

The union will need the support from the local community in Hershey, Lebanon, Harrisburg, Lancaster, and surrounding areas. A potential strike would affect not only park operations but also the many local businesses that depend on Hersheypark’s visitors. The maintenance team welcomes community backing from those who value their skilled work and understand the importance of fair compensation for the people who keep the park safe and running smoothly.
