Lost Connection. Now Will Not Connect to Bluetooth

During my last two cooks my thermometer has gone offline. Now it will not even connect to Bluetooth.

Thermometer is fully charged and firmware up-to-date.

I could have had a disaster today as it went offline toward the end of my cook. Caught it just in time.

Any help is appreciated!!

How to get build up off?

I can get the sensors and top metal contact clean, but the yellow part seems to hold on to more. How do you guys clean these or are you just letting it ride?

What has been your experience with WiFi?

It seems like I get burned every time I try to use these guys across the house. GGG or Display, doesn’t matter, and WiFi coverage is more than fine.

Just now, the app looked totally fine towards the end of the cook, but when my food reached alarm temp, it pulled a switcheroo and said it has been already done for 6 minutes. My guess is that the app was flying blind and graphing based on estimates instead of pinging the GGG.

Anyone else having these issues, or am I doing something wrong?

Pen charger slot broken

Has anyone ever seen this plastic part break? I'm a little surprised actually. This causes the thermometer to think that it's separated and i think that drains the battery.

I use the thermometer pretty rarely and I don't think I've ever stressed the plastic while taking it out of the charger.

I overcooked our steaks…please help me avoid this in the future

Purchased 4 Prime NY steaks from Costco (1.5-2” thick). Salted Saturday night. Seasoned and put into the Grilla smoker set for 250 with target of 110 for medium rares and 125 for mediums. Took a little under an hour to reach those temps. The Combustion probes showed ambient closer to 200.

Pulled at those temps and then seared on a Napoleon grill IR sear station at 30 seconds x 5 (top, bottom, flip top, flip bottom, non-fat side) then rested for 10 minutes.

The 110 pull came out very much medium. The 125 made it to medium well. The steaks were very juicy but I was very disappointed.

I had Googled temps and medium rare kept being listed as 130-135. I have a hard time believing there was that much carryover heat to pull 25 degrees more after pulling and during searing.

Appreciate any advice on how to avoid this in the future.

My GGG/EggGenius Project

I have an 8yo EggGenius with a dead board. The good news is that the fan still worked.

So when you have microcontrollers, motor controllers, and a soldering iron on hand… you tinker. Especially when you have a CE on order and don’t want to spend $250 on a replaced EggGenius.

First, it needs to be pointed out that Combustion has taken the amazing step of making their Bluetooth protocol extremely well documented. This is a type of openness that is rare and commendable.

So what is this?

It is my holder over to get a blower working for my BGE until the Combustion Engine ships.

It pulls the GGG out temperature data and then runs a very simple algorithm to determine how hard the old Egg Genius fan should run.

It is LiPo powered so I don’t have to run a power cord to my grill anymore.

It needs an enclosure designed, probably new soldering to make it easier to put in the enclosure… and more, but it is a first step.

(No, this is not a product… it’s not going to be sold)

T1-T4 off by a degree

I decided to test my thermometer inside a sous vide water bath to test it’s accurate because I saw someone else do that before on this sub. Is there a way to recalibrate the probe because the inner 4 temps are off by a whole degree while the other 4 are in standard deviation.

First cook on my new smoker with my new CPT

I got my thermometer a few weeks ago, but haven't had the opportunity to use it. Got to test out the temp of my new smoker at the same time. Adjusting for the evaporative cooling, the thermometer is showing the smoker is operating almost dead on. Very pleased with how the thermometer is working with the booster and the display.

Buyer Beware with Combustion Inc.

Buyer beware with Combustion Inc.

I placed an order well over two months ago and still have no guaranteed ship date. After finally reaching out, I was basically told “we don’t know when it’ll ship, but you can cancel anytime.”

What really concerns me is that this does not appear to be an isolated incident. There are multiple reports from customers describing the same pattern: long delays, vague timelines, full payment collected upfront, and customers left floating for months waiting on products with no firm fulfillment date.

At some point, repeatedly taking full payment without realistic delivery expectations starts feeling like an interest-free financing model disguised as preorder fulfillment.

To their credit, they did offer a refund when requested. But people should absolutely understand the risk before giving this company their money.

Buy from a more reputable company.

Just got Delivery!

Oh yeah, just got my first lot of gear delivered all the way down here in New Zealand. Can't wait to start using all this. I'll definitely be getting the smoker going this weekend. Like an idiot I only ordered one fridge magnet, guess I'll get a second one when the Combustion Engine launches lol

Giant Grill Gauge on Hasty Bake

Just got my GGG and set it up on my Hasty Bake Gourmet Pro. Super easy to install and setup perfectly. I figured I’d post here in case others were wondering.

Ordered 9/23/25, shipped 5/1/26, still in transit

Every step of this order has been delayed. I should have asked for my money back as I don't trust this uniuni carrier. I never heard of them before.

Gridfinity Holder for Combustion Inc Probes and Accessories

I created a 3D model for a holder for a couple probes, display, and giant grill gauge. The slots for the probe boosters are designed to hold the boosters sideways so that the probe cannot pop out. It uses the Gridfinity base. You can download the 3D model from Makerworld.

Made A Magnetic Probe Holder

Made myself a magnetic probe holder for use in-pot.

The holder was cast in a 3D printed mold with silicone and has a neodymium magnet.

For the silicone I used Smooth-On Soft-SIL 940 (Could probably go 950). The Magnet is a nickel plated neodymium magnet that is rated to 300 degrees.

This is just a prototype, i'm planning to evolve the design just a bit, but I am super happy with the result. I tested the holder by running it in a closed pot for an hour and didnt notice any issues with the part or the magnet. The holder holds the probe perfectly.

Ambient temperature in oven

I have a combustion thermometer and when I use it in the oven the ambient temp is way below what the oven is set at (sometimes as much as 50 degrees), I have tried it with convection on and off.

Is my oven that far off? Are they reading different things?
